I saw the high number and views before starting the episode and wondered who was on the show. Now I know that the great Dave DeBusschere was on the show. He only became well known after he joined the NY Knicks but was also an excellent player for Detroit. He was one of the most no-nonsense and unselfish players who played. His consistency in both scoring and rebounding was astounding. He died much too young. Carlotte Bingham was a very attractive young lady. Thanks for the video.
What a great show. Always loved it. Thankful for CZcams otherwise I wouldn’t be able to see it. I was 7 when this episode aired and here I am 63 and still love it.
I was a two weeks old.
👑
A witch hunt? Mercy Salem, Or...
I gotta say, contestants and the panel for round two were phenomenal!! Probably one of the best questions and answer rounds I've seen, if not THE best...everyone was on point! loved it!!!
I was so happy to learn that Charlotte Bingham is still alive and has continued to have a very successful life as a novelist and so sorry to hear that her husband of 42 years died in 2016.
All three Charlotte's seemed quick on their feet!
Wow! Loved this show as a kid.
Long live Black and White TV.Back to a time when the world was more civil and peaceful. It is great to sit back and watch programs from this era and remember the better days.
I remember when we got colour tv, I am not sure if we needed a new tv for that or if it just started working with colours in our old tv, but I remember when our family sat around the tv and it was in colour, it was surreal!!! It was either in the end of the 60's or in the beginning of the 70's. In Scandinavia.
Good night and God bless you.
I love this game. The highlight is when Kitty correctly reasoned who the baseball player was and Peggy realized she got it wrong-Peggy’s reaction was priceless and everybody was happy for Kitty, including Peggy.
Me too. I think the voting round in game 3 was as funny as I have ever seen on this show. This is the classic panel. They are classy, funny and charming.
For me, she ruins every show. I can't stand her.
“God bless” - you wouldn’t hear that today.
That's a good thing.
Why not ?
I was a very small when this show was on. I always had a faint memory of three people in the dark that seemed to stand on a hill. 0:06 explains that! ;-)
On a hill?
I wish I had a time machine.
Kitty Carlisle was such a lady.
I never liked her
One of the reasons I watched was to see what Kitty was wearing. I was rarely disappointed with her choices. When color came I think her dresses were even more elegant. She was intelligent and knew a lot about numerous subjects.
Mijra Achieng yep, total phony
@@stephenkennedy8767 do tell, who or what would you actually consider "real" on TV? It's TV: everything is phony.
I absolutely love Kitty!!
Loved Peggy Cass!
This happened the day I was born.
Ok. Now what ?
No, it didn't. It was taped in advance.
I recognized Dave Debushere in a New York second!
Kitty Carlisle was very detail oriented, fun game!
Loved Dave DeBusschere. That's when the N. Y. Knicks had such a great all-star team. No B. S. attitudes like now a day. $9 front row seat and now forget about it.
Dave himself also had a no B.S. attitude when he played. Just played the game hard every single minute he was on the floor.
It seems that Peggy and Tom always vote wrong when there are children contestants. That's nice.
Love the "God Bless You" salutation🥰🙏💞
"Good night and God bless" - - try saying that on TV today
People would get very "offended" that's for sure.
why would you want to?
Really - isn’t that the truth.
The word “good” means god. “Goodbye” is “God be with ye”.
Really! So sad, what's become of America.
I can remember Bud Collier from "Beat The Clock." Also the voice of Superman on the cartoon. Long time ago.
Dave De Busschere is so missed...his #22 hangs at the rafters at Madison Square Garden.
He played for the Knicks during their two championship.
During that third game, imposter #2 was Bob Goldsholl. He later went on to be a basketball announcer. His mentor was the great Marty Glickman.
How long did he play both sports?
Apparently, he played only one major league season (62-63) in which his ERA went up to 2.90 with a WL record of 3-4 and for that, he was sent to the minors for two years and then decided that basketball was his passion.
No shit, Sherlock
I read that the Farm in the zoo clised in 1963. The animals etc were then incorporated into the childrens zoo.
Game One, girl #2-- I wonder if Viveca from Blessed Sacrament (whose father Lou Tedesco directed the broadcast) is sister to Claudia Tedesco-Colmer. Claudia contributed deliciously to the book "Flower Power Man" and she attended the Quintano School. Viveca appeared on Broadway in "The Impossible Years."
The dialogue from 17:45 may be one of the funniest vintage TTTT moments :)
Which vegetables grow in the ground? All of them! I think she meant the fruiting part goes underground. Ie potatoes, carrots, turnips.
What? No carton of Salem cigarettes as a parting gift for the three little girls in Round 1?? (Just kidding... that always makes me laugh, even with the adults.)
I thought the same thing. And only one carton too. You'd think they'd give away a case. I'm glad they didn't for their lungs sake, ;-p
🤣🤣🤣
As a non basketball fan, especially Boston , I did recognize the real athlete.
I think Charlotte Bingham is probably the daughter of John Bingham maybe, who worked for MI5? He was supposed to be the model for le Carré's character of Smiley and was also a novellist and an Irish Lord.
this show was fast, interesting and is part of my fading memory of the sixties.
When I saw the thumbnail, I wanted to see the prize the three girls got. I was pretty sure they wouldn’t be given cigs!
I knew it wasn't the youngest girl. I don't think it's EVER been the youngest child!
in this day and age could you see bub collier saying god bless
'
Didn't know Bud had a brother named Bub
RIP - Dave D.
Did the panelists see the contestants' entrance? I picked the right Charlotte based purely on her face looking Irish when she gave her name.
I almost did that but I thought that would be the ringer. Of course I struck out in all three games. :(
Me too!
Same.
Three smart young ladies for sure.
Girl #3 in Game #1
Lady #3 in Game #2
Man #1 in Game #3
How could they not know Dave De Busschere? I recognized him right off even though he was way before my time.
You're stupid!
@@alberttropeano3909 That's a real answer? LOL, you're an uneducated mook.
Bob Wallace, or should I say Edith Bunker? 😆 LOL!
@@bobwallace9814 The answer is that this episode was before he achieved his greatest notoriety. It’s like there is a To Tell The Truth episode from the early 70s with Orville Redinbaccer as a scientist who had developed a new strain of popcorn, years before he was a household name for doing his own ads for his brand of microwave popcorn!
@@RLucas3000 I saw the Orville show and you're right. One show had the guy that did Popeye's voice. The second he opened his mouth, Popeye leaped out and the panel all missed him.
Easy, if you know body language. She nodded her head after each answer. People will do that unconsciously when they make a positive statement.
A carton of Salems to a little girl? No, not even back in '63.
Keep the money, sell the cigarettes 🚬
I love the short shorts the basketball player is wearing. Call me old fashioned, but I like legs.
I love these old game shows. This is such a good one. What’s My Line is good as well and the Newlywed Game is hilarious. Only negative is all the cigarette advertising and giveaways. So glad we know better now. 🥰
Cheryl Black I agree. If any of the producers are alive they should be ashamed for pushing cigarettes the way they did.
Those are some short basketball shorts! He didn't seem too comfortable.
That was the style back then.
@@loissimmons6558 Yep, the ugly long basketball shorts didn’t showing up until the very late 80s/early 90s.
Everyone's shorts were that length back then. It was normal.
wow, thats so cool!
Watching these re-runs the real one is, as I expected, usually the one who mumbles their name more than the others. And this is from my experience working at jobs of asking people their name over the telephone. MOST of the time --I'd say 9/10 times, they just blubber it incoherently.
I wonder where there farm was if it's what is now known as The Bronx Zoo.
Yes
There's still farmland and horse riding camps etc all around that area. I lived at the edge of it during college.
They said the farm was within the zoo…?
I picked girl 3 also, she look like a farm girl.
Rosemary #1 sure looks a lot older than 10 yo. (5th = 10yo)
I think she said 6th grade, which would put her at 11 or 12
@@lilliematthews7922 .... I think your right.
Those kids really needed those Salems!!
Bud Collier looks a lot like George Reeves, Superman from the 1950s TV Series
I don't see the resemblance.
I'm not sure if @Linda Berg was serious or funny. Bud Collyer played Superman on radio.
Are you kidding ?
"What is your name and what do you do?" I mean I'm pretty sure they don't have day jobs lol
The girls could have atleast smiled
Why does Peggy hide her card from the other panelists?
Why didn't those little girls get free cartons of Salem cigarettes?
They were smart not to do so if you know what I mean.
@@Farrah300 Oh...I don't know...they could have passed them on to their parents...or...sold them singly on the New York streets.
That opening with the 3 females looks so creepy.
1:20 She would have been good in a 1960s horror movie, playing a vampire child. 7:40 The quickest exit in history. 8:00 Somebody needed to force feed #2 an entire pecan pie.
I don’t understand in game three if he was a professional player why didn’t they recognize him?
I love ❤ Bob Callier I think he would be very approachable.
Who dat?
A shame basketball players no longer wear such short shorts!
I'm surprised they didn't offer the kids cigarettes
They were vaping backstage with Orson.
They could have waited a week later when American Home Products was the sponsor. They would have gotten something.
Should have given them candy cigarettes. I remember both chocolate and mint versions in the 1950's and 60's when I was growing up.
Charlotte
A gift carton of Salem’s on your way out. 😖
Kitty has never seen any type of sporting event!!!
Smart lady.
A gift for the kids from Salem Cigarettes.
I instantly was drawn to Charlotte #3, but she threw me when she said that orange was the color of NORTHERN Ireland! Did something change? N. Ireland flies the Union Jack while "Southern" Ireland's flag is orange, white and green.....!
Jon Vater I believe orange, white, and green were chosen for the flag of Ireland because orange represented the Protestants, who mostly lived in Ulster, and green the rest of Ireland.
He is referring to the Orange Men of Northern Ireland. I am English and I have heard of them. The Orange Men are Protestants and they march every year. There tends to be trouble when they march through Catholic areas.... www.bbc.com/news/uk-northern-ireland-18769781
Carlylse seems positively PROUD of her ignorance, as if it makes her feminine rather than ignorant and she invariably howls with laughter when the panelists reveal their actual occupations. So odd.
Wrong title. And as erudite as Miss Kitty was, she should have realized that she should have asked what vegetables grow BELOW/BENEATH the surface of the ground.
You don't hear the term Authoress anymore. That's as it should be.
Sad
Explain if you don't mind
@@joeambrose3260 Exactly! Who starts and ends a sentence with "Sad?"
@@kristabrewer9363 Maybe Sylvia Plath
2:08 The more often he says "lovely young ladies", the more you realise one of them is neither young or lovely.
Disgusting comment. They are all very
lovely.
@@alberttropeano3909 I take back my comment...should have read NONE of them look attractive. 1st one, maybe.
@@GirGir183 I like to see what you and your family look like. I bet very fat and ugly!
@@alberttropeano3909 Nope. What relevance would that have to anything?
Selinor 578, That should have read "neither young *nor* lovely."
