Her name is Shirley Abicair, and I recognized Cicely Tyson instantly, married to Miles Davis, was in Roots, Diary of a Mad Black Women, she's won almost every Award there is plus the Presidential Medal of Freedom, I think for her tireless efforts for Civil Rights, a truly great woman and American National Treasure.

My favorite Cicely Tyson role was when she played Chicago public schoolteacher Marva Collins.

You know it's funny, I didn't recognize Tyson right up until before she revealed her name, and we finally saw that great broad smile of hers.

Gene Rayburn hosted The Match Game on NBC at the time. Gene was a semi regular on TTTT on this version here, Garry Moore/Joe Garagiola in the 70s, and Robin Ward in 1980. On a separate note, this aired on my dad's 24th birthday when he lived in Staten Island.

No one in that entire panel is more renowned than Cicily Tyson and no one sitting there that day would have had any notion that that would happen.

I don't know Cicely Tyson's background. I wonder how she went from a student in social research to an actress? Interesting. Makes you wonder if she got "discovered" from being on this episode. Thanks for the video.

What's My Line had a town crier and I thought it was one of the imposters because he looked familiar, but the other imposter also looked familiar. The real town crier was not on What's My Line. The imposter who I thought was the real one was on What's My Line for being the masseur he said he is. The other imposter said he was a commercial artist, but it's possible he was also on What's My Line.

It would still have been relatively unusual in 1963. From 1901 to 1952, our national anthem had been God Save The King through the reigns of Edward VII, George V, George VI and the one we don’t mention.
Having said that, for us Elizabethans, it still feels bizarre to be singing GSTK.
