- One of my favorite cities in Japan is Kochi, which is located on Shikoku Island. Kochi is well known for having a beautiful castle, and it is one of twelve castles in Japan that still has the original main keep. The surrounding walls is a great place to visit and walk around, and you can climb the stairs in the keep to get some great views of Kochi and the surrounding mountains. I absolutely loved to visit castles like this when I was in Japan! Such a unique and beautiful piece of this nation's culture and heritage, it really is a wonderful representation of how Japan was once run!

Awesome to see and learn about the castle. That was a big cedar tree! Cool model depicting how it would have been in service back in the day. Awesome detail in the model too. Super cool. The high location of the castle had great views all around and provided a strategic advantage that may have been needed back in the day. Awesome tour. Thank for sharing your visit. Have a great day..

Loved visiting Kochi and touring the castle with you Donna and Lyndon. Beautiful castle and lovely gardens. Loved the diorama and the history it showed and told. Not only were the stairs steep, but the handle looked a little shaky. But the view from the top made it worth while. Stunning! Thanks for bringing us along.
The handles were very shaky! On my way down I was clinging to the wobbly railings with both hands. The place would not be wheelchair friendly, and even the park area has a fair number of steps, although I think there is a vehicle road going around the north side. Glad to help people travel virtually at least and see what's inside.
That's a cool castle! Japan's historic buildings have that certain mysticism about them and this is no exception. The cicadas were so loud!
The sad/frightening part is they were even louder than that - I had to tone down the sound in a lot of the clips. I really enjoy visiting this castle. Thanks so much, Matt!
A fantastic tour of Kochi Castle Donna. Seeing how well preserved and cared for the castle is given its age is a testament to the importance of respecting history. The castle interior and the dioramas and models are so impressive with so much attention to detail, like the facial expressions of the people and the beautiful duck carvings. There are two places I walk that have very old Tree Cross Cuts too. Its so fascinating to think how old the tree was!! I like Cedar Trees! Glad you had a nice time!! Brenda

The castle is very interesting. A lot was built and decorated and embellished with wood. The view from the castle into the landscape and the city is enchanting.

Awe.. never been to Shikoku. And so proud of you because you visited one of the most beautiful islands here in Japan. The wood carvings , the dioramas which explain the structure of the castle and about Kochi are really fascinating. Interesting exhibits on each floor! Thanks for sharing:)

Wow, Kochi Castle looks absolutely amazing. The level of detail in the architecture - stunning. I love the beautiful plants everywhere, so green and vibrant. The cut down Japanese cedar stump is huge! Wow. I love learning about the statues and how the lord had lookalikes in case he was attacked. Those really are steep stairs! Love the dolphin in the entry hall and on the roof - beautifully designed! What great views from up there too. Fantastic video as always Donna, thanks for bringing us along! :)

What a stunning place Donna. Now there are castles and there are castles....what an interesting and intriguing complex. Beautifully kept and used to educate people today. Stylish and beautifully crafted. The gardens too are lovely- as one would expect surrounding a palace/castle of this calibre. It appears I know so little of Japanese history except the very populistic and simple stories. Thank you for another great history lesson and beautiful visual homage to this place. 🩷🙏🇳🇱🙋♀🇳🇿

I have never been to any of the castles in JP. Embarrassing, right? I don't recall that I grow up with visiting historic destinations.
Your film is very valuable to me. I thank YOU. I can say I love architecture, modern and historic since my father was an architect. The castle's interior supposed to have been built with out nails, Japanese Wood Joinery. According Google: “Sashimono” is a technique for assembling furniture and other wooden items without nails, using both simple and highly complex wood joints. Mortises or grooves called 'hozo' are carved into the wood in order to join two boards in a blind joint that's not visible from the surface. Also this work of art is often seen above the sliding door between drawing room/living room and another room. My grandmother's house had it that is wooden and ornate in a small scale, not as large as you saw in the castle. I have never thought that is for ventilation hahah, but beautiful art to look at. The castle models are well built, I enjoy PPL's lives in the past within. Thank YOU so much for making my day, Donna. I pray for you two's full recovery.

I would like to visit Tosa someday, which produced many heroes in the closing days of the Tokugawa Shogunate. I enjoyed watching the video of the interior of Kochi Castle very much.👍
There's a lot of famous people from that era that I admire, too. I hoped I would be able to visit the area where John Manjiro came from but unfortunately we weren't able to get that far. I'm a big fan of Ryoma Sakamoto & Iwasaki Yataro, too. Thanks so much for watching!

When I visited Kochi in the past, I enjoyed the view of the west coastline and Shimanto River from this location. I have not visited this castle. you had a great experience.
Thank you so much! We had plans to head down the coastline as part of the henro pilgrimage, and I really wanted to see the Shimanto River and get to Cape Ashizuri, but we both caught colds so had to adjust our plans. Next time we will get there for sure!

Wow! this was something very different Donna. I have never been to Japan, and so your tour of Kochi Castle brought me into a different world and culture. Great to see a castle with its original keep. The whole island looks beautiful.

Those walls are massive. Very very impressive.

The diorama is wonderful. Very detailed and informative without needing to understand the language.

The rooftops of the castles and temples are truly amazing. Some of the floors in some castles are built to squeak even more to alert of intruders - they call them Nightingale floors. The diorama was a lot of fun to look at, and the voiceover talked about specific spots but unfortunately my Japanese is not that good! Thanks so much for watching!
