    thank you for this video, one of the most useful, newbie friendly videos I've seen on the topic. I get intimidated when I see some of setups and vague instructions I found elsewhere. this actually seems like a straight forward guide that a novice like me could follow and make work so now I'm going to take the leap. ordered my stuff on amazon, I'll report back once I'm successful or burned my house down.

    If we use a larger voltage wall brick, will be able to use more than 100 leds without fading at the last few leds?

    • @techfulgoodies
      @techfulgoodies  Před 11 měsíci +1

      No, the LED lights are rated at 5V so any larger would potential cause damage or be unsafe.

    13:30 So for projects that use 20 LEDs or less, I can use a power brick very reliably to power the board and the lights without issues? Someone told me even for my use case that they wouldn't recommend that and I wasn't able to wrap my head around why as I don't think it came down to solely light power/brightness. If this isn't the case, i'd love to know. I'd start many projects knowing I can just use a brick and not worry about more power delivery. The other power options always seemed so incredibly bulky.

    • @techfulgoodies
      @techfulgoodies  Před 6 měsíci

      Yeah, I have been only using a wall brick and it works fine. Just make sure you get 5v LED lights and not 20v

    • @TheNerdArmory
      @TheNerdArmory Před 6 měsíci +1

      Why would someone need to go from a 5v kit to a 12 or 20v kit? Just the amount of leds or? @@techfulgoodies

    • @techfulgoodies
      @techfulgoodies  Před 6 měsíci

      @@TheNerdArmory Honestly not sure. Maybe the amount of LEDs like you said or if they want to use a bigger power supply, the larger voltage lights can handle it without burning up!

    Did exactly as you said, When i power my board up, the blue light comes on, but nothing on the LED strup at all.

      Hard to say from here. One problem I had was that I had the data cable plugged into the wrong prong - I looked at the options and was able to choose the right number - for some reason it defaulted to 2

      @@techfulgoodies yeah I've looked already, it's weird I have a btf strip, 60 LEDs, it was the exact same strip that another CZcamsr used for one of his videos. I checked everything. The direction of the LEDs. I've tried the different GPIOs because there's three different ones you can use for data. The board lights up. I can access it through my phone or my computer. But the lights do nothing. I was wondering perhaps maybe the strip is no good. I'm going to test that next I guess. One thing I wanted to ask you. Are all these ESP 8266 boards the same? The one I have is a nodemcu v2 but I had zero issue flashing WLED onto it. I've even done it both ways. Through the website and I did it with the easy flash software. Thanks for your response bud!

      @techfulgoodies  Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@cdnbrit I'm pretty sure they are the same. Strange problem you are having - I'm assuming you checked the wires are hooked to the right spot on the LED (sorry if I am suggesting obvious stuff) or maybe the amperage setting, or the number of LEDs? I'm running out of thoughts other than the strip is somehow bad which would be weird. Let me know if you find out what the issue is.

      @@techfulgoodies Got it going, Guess these leds couldn't be powered like the way you had it. I bought a 5v 3 amp adapter, Wired with in with a Barrel plug. Working awesome now!

    great , just great advice to burn your house down, the esp troughput on amps is 350ma with a short period of 500ma.
    100 leds full on white draws about 55ma thats 5.5 amps or about 10x what the esp troughput is.
    any color on its own is about half that.
    my advice power the ledstrip directly to the power source and tap the esp power of that.
    good luck

    What is the max amp that i can push true the esp and the led strip? Before my house go boom boom😂😂😢

    • @techfulgoodies
      @techfulgoodies  Před 8 měsíci

      The ESP uses Micro USB - Micro-USB connectors are rated for 2 Amps at 5 Volts (10 Watts) and also the LEDs I used are 5V LEDs only so probably supports the same Amperage

      @@Redneck-mecanics Thx!! Yes, 5 meters is very long and would need extra power injection. You would only see a small portion of the lights light up before the power wasn't enough
