    After 14 years with my J.D. D110 lawn tractor I'm buying a replacement lawn tractor (another J.D.) Having this past experience I found this still helpful for me and should be even more helpful if buying for the first time. Handyman your the best!

    i have been mowing my lawn lately with a 1961 cub cadet original. surprising what it will do with only a 7hp kohler K161. it only has a 1 gallon fuel tank but it mows all of my 1-1/2 acres with gas to spare. i only paid $400 for this machine 2 years ago with a rebuild kohler and a NICE condition deck, i would actually go so far to say is the deck is nice enough to be called rare. it isnt even pitted. i just painted underneath the deck with bed-liner spray, keep it clean it will last a lifetime; and reapply paint annually.
    its funny because this is not particularly a large machine, but it is without a doubt a garden tractor. heavy duty C channel frame, heavy duty IH cub cadet cast iron transmission, cast iron block engine.
    sometimes the vintage equipment is worth a look, plus they look cool.

    John deere is the only mower I will trust in this lineup I have ran each one for commercial mowing and have to say all failed accept john deere the troy built died the poulan pro just did not have the weight and the cub cadet was way to cheaply built. The john deere on the other hand mowed down 2 to 3 feet of grass without any issues at all.

      Went and looked at lowes for a tractor. They had an e100 there and were asking 2 thousand for it. Was not impressed with the build quality at all. The hood was completely plastic and VERY flimsily. Couldn't believe john deere would put something out like that. The wiring was real messy too compared the others. Went with a craftsmen which MTD makes and it actually looked pretty good for the price. Has a cast iron front axle like the deere did but the hood was steel and more sturdy. Bumper brackets where thicker gauge too. Of course john deere make MUCH better tractors models but the budget one's i do not think are any better

      Our last tractor was an MTD and is still running strong 20 years later. Light duty work of course but i keep the maintenance up

      There is a lot to unpack here. I will just leave it at this, these are the cheap-end products that aren't commercial grade. If you are going to get a commerical grade JD or CC, they will cost over $3k. These are the typical 'name-brand' mowers that you get at Lowes or Home Depot. They work for most people.

    • @tbar1047
      @tbar1047 Před 2 lety +2

      All these mowers are the same cheaply made. The John Deer mower you're just paying for the name.

    How about talking about how long they last. CVTs don't last. Get a manual transmission, if you can find one.

    Gees, $1,100 in Australia will buy you a very old, worn-out, ride-on mower.
    I bought a secondhand Zero turn, and it cost me $7,500. A new one was priced over $13,000. And that is only a mid-range mower. I've seen zero turns here for over $26,000.
    How come everything is so cheap in America?

  • @hank5655

    All of these are made cheap and are junk. The smallest lawn mower should be X300 John Deere anything less are a waste of money, I was a dealer for John Deere for years and we even sold Cub against my better judgement they are made by MTD
