  • I have been lucky enough to be mowing with my old John Deere x739 garden tractor all summer. I bought this tractor new in the fall of 2017 and then sold it to my neighbor in the spring of 2018. After having a change in job roles, he wasn't able to use this tractor...at all! I sold it with 19.9 hours and rented it back out from him this spring with 20.0 hours on it!
    Take a look at what the x739 is all about! Let's check out the features found on this tractor including the AutoConnect 60" drive over mower deck and 3 bin material collection system.

    Have had a 739 with 54" deck and HDAP tires for about a year. Love it. Upgraded to it because of steep hills (>20 percent grade). Have about as many hours on it pulling a trailer as I do mowing. Beware that on tight turns in thin grass (we have a lot of shade), the tires easily dig in. Have no problem in the thick grass that's in the sun. No snow equipment -- unnecessary down here in TN. Have arm rests on the standard seat, and they're flipped up more than they're down.

    Hi Courtney just thought about the washout port I use mine all the time. Before you put the mower away stick your arm under Mower deck (of course mower off) and see how much grass is stuck underneath. That will begin to rust after one season from the build-up. Anyways attached the hose and put the deck all the way down must be on concrete or Blacktop Engage The Blade and run it for two or three minutes. You will be surprise how clean it gets it. Most people try it with the deck up and it will not do anything. Thanks for the video love that tractor

    Should use wash port, keeps deck clean underneath, clumps off grass can get stuck under there and the can make rust, connect garden hose for 5min while blades are on. Then run blades without wash for a few mins to dry.

      word of caution with those cleaning ports. I haven't seen it myself but i've heard that using them right after mowing while the bearings are hot can cause water to get sucked into the spindles as they cool back down causing them to go bad.

    I suppose if you live in a neighborhood or town or whatnot and never needed a loader this machine would be great for mowing and snowblowing but in my opinion if your gonna spend almost $10,000 for a lawn mower why not just spend a little more and get a lot more machine in a 1023e or bx and get the mower and a loader and a more capable machine? I use my wash out port thing everytime on the riding mower, that dried grass just stays forever , look at your tires, the underneath of the mower deck looks like that, just layered from everytime you've mowed.

    The issue with the 60 inch deck is how it reacts when going over even slightly uneven ground. It will start to gouge the lawn, particularly when you have the blower on the deck with the material collection bags.. You need to fuss with the anti-scalping wheel to see what works best. It should really be easier.

    Traded in my 06 x540 with 54 inch deck for my 2015 x739 with 60 inch edge deck and have about 160 hours on it just mowing. 4.5 acres of grass with a lot of hills and valleys Never been stuck or even had to use the diff lock something I can't say about my x540. It cut down my cutting time by 25% not only because of deck size but of the great maneuverability and traction, but at the price of really heavy fuel consumption. My only complaint is it seems like it like it uses almost double the fuel as my x540 did. To me a x739 for 1/2 a acre is a bit overkill, does the tractor even get up to running temperature before you put it a way. It has preformed flawlessly with no more than routine maintenance every 50 hours and changing out blades every season. Paid close to 17k Canadian dollars for it and feel it should be diesel powered for that kind of money. Just my 2 cents for any buddy looking into one

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  Před 4 lety

      Overkill!?!? The heart wants what the heart wants man, haha! I think you are way undersized for mowing 4.5 acres. I'd hate to do that with a garden tractor.
      I can't stand the fuel economy. I actually have that in part of a video I haven't put out yet. Absolutely terrible, very frustrating. They've always been fuel hogs though unfortunately.
      They stopped producing the diesel version of the x739. Last model was the x749. You can still purchase the x758 which is diesel and MWFD, but not AWS.

I mow 50 accounts here in central MN. The X739 is also used a lot for my hilly properties, when wet, or when I am mowing steep banks by lakes. Good vid!

    As a rule of thumb the wash out ports do help as long as you wash after you mow while the grass is soft, it will significantly loosen harder encrusted grass to ease cleaning manually, they do pretty well and keeping the grass from building up and rusting out the deck.

      What many buyers don't know is that the JD D and E series that are sold in the big box stores use a very light duty version of the Tuff Torque transmission. Although the tractors superficially look very much like the X series sold by JD dealers, the bones, engines, and transmissions are much heavier duty in the X tractors. Can you put a loader on it? No. I can.
    To bad they discontinued that ability in 2012.
    I bought the last new 2012 x748 in 2012.
    Got loader, 3pt hitch, box blade, plow and pto.
    I saw the new series coming and thought
    "Shit, I gotta get a x748 before this garbage comes out."
    P.S. you can boost the hydro pressure from the factory set 900-1000 psi to about 1300psi with no harm. The system is made to handle 1500+ psi.

    • @GoodWorksTractors
      @GoodWorksTractors  Před 4 lety +1

      By the time you add a loader and three point, you have spent almost the same as a 1 Series. The down side is that you have a far less capable machine with fewer features as well.

    • @ageckomiller
      @ageckomiller Před 4 lety

      @@GoodWorksTractors
      1 series was 1,300 cheaper than the x.
      The x748 has a 2 ft turn radius, 1 series is just over 7ft. X748 has no ROPS. 1 series does. 1 series is 8 inches taller at the hood and has higher center of gravity, tips easier. 1 series is my choose for my use. Everyone has to choose which is better.
      But, if you do the math, run ALL the numbers, I find, like many others, the 1 series is a gimmick tractor.
      After discontinuing the loader option for garden tractors (which was an insurance issue) the 1 series became the smallest Deere you could mount a loader on.
      I can mow my ditch without having to back out.
      I can mow under my trees with no ROPS
      And I boosted my hydraulics to just over 1300.

      @GoodWorksTractors  Před 4 lety +1

      The actual turning radius of the 1 Series is closer to 2.5'. Reference czcams.com/video/WiHwIJzm1VQ/video.html
      Correct, no ROPS on the X Series unless you're in Europe :). Sure, you can mow under trees with the X Series if you can fold your body like Gumby.
      Yep, a little higher center of gravity for sure on the 1 Series. That's a general observation as you go larger with any machine.
      I'm not sure how you can call the 1 Series a gimmick tractor. You get more for your money than with a similarly equipped X Series. I call the that better buy.
      I sit on X Series for 2-3 times as long as 1 Series tractors. People simply can't justify paying that kind of crazy money for a less capable machine. I don't blame them.
