Skits Missions 11 // Dent du Geant 4013m /south face // Chamonix

Another steep classic, the south face of Dent du Geant ("the giant's tooth"). March '19 was the warmest month of the winter. We attempted it unsuccessfully twice, as the sun turned the snow into water around noon every day and back to ice every night. This time though, we started as early as possible from Chamonix and had perfect timing.
We completely ran out of snow at 2300m altitude and had to walk all the way down to SkyWay Monte Bianco.
The top of this peak was first climbed in 1887, an accent that marked the end of the silver age of mountaineering. It still remains unclimbed by us, a mission for another year.
