Install Windows XP, 7, 8.1, 10 from hard drive | NO DVD or USB needed!

- install windows from hard drive Hello Friends, today, in this tutorial, we are going to learn, how to install, windows 8, windows 8.1, or windows 10, directly, from the, internal hard drive, of your computer, the procedure is very simple, & you do not even need, any third-party software. Friends, this method, is especially, very useful, when, the cd drive, or, usb drive, of your computer, is not working, or, you do not have, any cd drive, or pen drive, available with you, and, you want to format, your computer. Friends, today in this tutorial, we are going to show you, this very simple method, that will allow you, to boot, and install Windows, directly from the hard drive. First, you have got to, remove the Disk Drive, from the Target Computer, & place it to another, working computer, Friends, as you can see, in this video, that we have already, connected the target disk drive, to the working computer, now let’s power on, the working computer. Once the computer turn on, open file explorer, you can see the target disk drive is, listed here as a, secondary drive, the drive might be full with previous data, so, we got to clean the drive first, to do that, we will open, disk management, now right click over target Disk drive and select, delete volume, now click, yes, now again, right click over it select, new simple volume, now click next, make sure, Perform a quick format box is, checked and now push, next, now click finish, now wait, until the format is done, once the format is complete, you can see the, target disk drive, as empty, now you have to make the drive, active, you can either, right click over target disk drive and select, mark partition as active, or you can do the same, by using, command prompt, to open command prompt, go to search, and type CMD, now select, run as administrator, once the command prompt loads up, type , diskpart, and hit enter, now type, list disk and hit enter, now type, select disk, in our case it is disk 1 so we will put, select disk 1 now type list partition, and hit enter, now type select partition, in our case it is , 1 so we will type, select partition 1 , once your desired partition is selected, type, active, and push enter, to mark the partition as active, now type exit, to exit diskpart. Now in the next step, we will copy the windows setup files from the ISO to the empty target disk drive, to do so right click over ISO and select extract to, now select the location of the target disk drive and , click OK, Wait until all files get copied. Now close the window, as you can see our drive is ready with windows setup files, friends, you must install windows, in this same folder, now in the final step we will make the drive, bootable, to do so, open command prompt now type the command as shown in the video, you can also read the same command in the description down below, now push enter, now close the command prompt and Place the hard drive back into the target computer. Friends, Make sure that the BIOS is configured to boot from the hard drive. If you have done everything correctly, you should see the blue Windows logo, and setup will load (really fast, too, because it's loading from the hard drive). When I turn off my laptop and try to put it in boot manager, it only shows my old hdd with my old windows installation. The ssd (with the new windows installation) doesn't show up at all

Doesn't work..followed the instructions to the letter, other than I created an inactive partition to later put ubuntu on,but shouldn't effect installation & on two drives I did this for 2 computers & it doesn't work, I don't understand it, I got a bootable thumb that will work & wants me to reformat of course, if I say don't delete it just returns to splash screen for prod. key again, you seemed to select custom advanced install options,but that suggests it will erase, if you select format that is, this doesn't make sense. my other computer doesn't' seem to have working DVD-ROM or USB to do that method,so I'm back to square one, this is frustrating.

Everything worked as described up to getting "Leaving Diskpart..." typing in the next part, resulted in a response saying, "the device is not ready"

If you cant set the disk as active you'll need to do the following:
- enter command prompt
- type "diskpart"
- then "list disk" like in the video and select which disk you want to clean by typing "select disk X" (x replaces the number of the disk)
- after that type "clean"
- it can take very long depending on the disk size so be patient
- when you get a message saying it was finished (you'll know when it finishes once you can type again)
- Fiiiiiinally type "convert mbr" and when it says it was succesful, type "active" then proceed on the video and folllow the instruccions.

Interesting. The title of the video includes Windows XP but no mention of XP was contained in the video content. I'm actually building a retro- XP machine and the old CD-ROM drive failed, so I'm trying to install XP from the install disk using a working computer. I'll post an update if this method works.
How did you go with this process? I too am having a hard time trying to get windows xp to even boot the setup files to install it. Keep getting bootmgr errors and such.
Only difference is i am using an ISO file with a bootable USB as i dont have an XP disk.
@@paulevans4043 I actually completed my build using an XP disk. After failing several times using the method in this video I wondered if I had a bad hard drive and when I searched my supplies for another, I discovered I had another CD-ROM drive. So I installed it and retried the XP CD and voila, success. No idea what kept this video's method from succeeding but it was always file copying errors. I downloaded XP iso files from three different sources with no difference, so I don't think it was due to faulty installers. I just think that XP isn't geared up to install reliably using this method.

tried this, but diskpart says this after you type active "The selected disk is not a fixed MBR disk. The ACTIVE command can only be used on fixed MBR disks." as you know the nature of win10 is a GPT disk not MBR.
use cmd as administrator right click on cmd then select run as administrator hope this helps

Windows 10 requires your disk to be on GPT format so you need to convert MBR to GPT during installation to fix the error.
Windows 10 work fine on mbr too

- for windows xp: I install it from hard drive, but have to boot from msdos (floppy) and run exe file from disk. I don't remember it's name...
A fresh install cannot be run from a virtual drive since there is no OS installed. Even if there was, only an upgrade could be done, not a fresh install.

Probably be better getting a genuine windows Disc and Disc DRIVE.
It is from a genuine disk. The only difference is that the hard drive is the cd-rom with the OS on it.
