If ya all felt you were wasting your valuable time with the first 14 min. as you knew all of that what the heck were you even watching this at all. There is so much that was left out that most beginners should have already known this much. Things like, DOES your software automatically set the OFFSET for SSD. I don't know about Samsung, but WD does not. How about UEFI? or DOES the software automatically partition for either MBR as opposed to GPT or does that have to be done. In other words, does it copy to UNALLOCATED space ONLY? I prefer MINI TOOL Partition Wizard myself. The only thing about it you need to know is that it does not automatically clone the BOOT portion (partition) on a GPT drive and that has to be done in a separate opperation.

This is about learning how to do it with ease and with a methodology that is based in throwing parallel explanations about cables, connectors, good closeups and a back screen explaining acronyms so if you teach others is more than understandable and very recommended that you do not asume people already know everything and give appropriate explanations and of course the video that could take 5min for advanced users is taking almost 30min but is like being in a classroom learning it with excellent explanations with s simple language and no rush or time crusade. For me it was excellent because I evaluated it as what it is, a learning video. Good job buddy.

When SATA appeared in my life, I purchased a dual bay SATA drive dock by inateck. The new version of my device would cost around $50 US today and is available on amazon. You simply remove the dive from your PC and place it in Slot A on the dock. Put your new drive in slot B and press the device's offline cloning button and wait for the cloning process to complete. Then you install your shiny new drive. That's it, job done. The drive dock is also useful as it can turn any SATA drive into a plug in USBc drive, I also use it to backup PC system drives onto offline large capacity HDD's for safe storage elsewhere.
FYI; I am the I.T support for my entire family and I have never regretted buying this thing as it has removed hours of unnecessary messing about and uncertainty every time I have used it.

This is a good teaching video. Those of you (not too many) who thought it was too long are (probably) not teachers. As a "Driver's Ed" instructor with 30+ years of experience it was just the right length with an appropriate amount of repetition. For my current skill level with computers it was a touch lengthy. If you use the right sized screwdriver it will hold the cross-headed screw even when horizontal. If you magnetise the screwdriver a little, by sliding a magnet along it once, then that can help too. But keep magnets away from the old-style spinning hard drives!

The mirror can get in the way, and if you're unlucky, the clear coat could stick in that gap between the door and the belt molding.

We are the other side, the often builders of PC's and restoring Mac Pro computers so our down take was ... the many loose cables not tied together! LOL I suppose before they made windowed computer cases no one ever bothered to neatened up the inside. Now zip ties are part of the build. Restoring three Mac Pro computers, strangely there are few cables in the case. Oh and the direct connect cable to a loose sata hard drive is a wonderful tool for doing disk images with (no external case required and it's put back in it's original box once imaged).

Thank you for this tutorial. I found it interesting that your SSD size was so small. My older HP C drive is far larger.

Thank you - exactly what I needed. I too have a 12 year old desktop gaming rig I built and the HD is failing. All indications is I'm not able to upgrade to NVMe but oh well.
    Thanks again!

If you are going to clone or image a boot drive, use a imaging software. I use makrium reflect. I use this because I am on Windows 7 and no support available now. So I make a image every couple of months to an external hard drive, about 2TB size is good. If I wanted to put that image on a SSD then I just select the image from the software choices, and let it run. Very simple and you ALWAYS have a back up system somewhere.

Well done! Wonderful and comprehensive tutorial, and your explanation is very clear and articulate. If I may assume, you might be a professor or a teacher.

No, not a teacher, but just enjoy making difficult topics easy to understand. There are too many complicated things in this world!

Very good video, but one thing you left out was how important it is to ground yourself to the chassis before reaching your hand inside. You could very easily zap a component in there and fry it if you happen to have a static charge on your body.
