Maybe Metal Sonic should go back in Standby Mode.
Sonic the Hedgehog is owned by Sonic.
Futurama is owned by 20th Century Fox Television.
#metalsonic - Hry
Of course he’s still cool, metal is a good heat conductor.
Look, a youtube comment joke with actual thought put into it.
@@elfascisto6549 not sure if that’s sarcasm, but thanks. Didn’t know this many people would like the science joke.
Now that's a better joke than my "Metal Sonic is Metal" pun
@@silverslayer6262 your welcome
Understandable! Have a nice day!!
Fun Fact about Metal Sonic in Heroes: He was voiced by Sonic's VA at the time, Ryan Drummond.
The same goes in Japanese
The same thing happened in the Japanese version of the OVA
Whaaaaat? That's awesome.
Another fun fact: His appearance in Heroes was a 10 year anniversary.
@@zacknattack Damn!
I never thought about it but you have a point that Sonic team uses him too often even though he is given nothing to do but be Eggman's lackey without a personality or purpose.
I think the comics do a great job a keeping him as Eggman's enforcer but diving into his insecurities about being a copy to Sonic while also playing as a contrast to Sonic's kind nature.
Yeah I love what they did with him in the comics and they kinda made me prefer him without a voice. I feel like things wouldn't hit as hard if Metal could speak.
I still cant get over that bit nearing the end of the Metal Virus where he's working together with Sonic - protecting him at all costs. It was because he was directly given orders, sure, but it was still nice to see. Its not like hes an illogical character either, so its believable that even Metal believed that he needed to do what he needed to do
@@castform7 "I don't have time or intellect to waste with you, my loathsome copy."
Thanks?
Sometimes I think Modern Sonic team is never gonna learn their lesson from the 2010s.
Yeah they need to stop splitting into teams to develop games at the same time
hehe live and learn
The adventure era had a good anime-shonen style story wise. Wish they would return more to that and give me aesthetics inspired by the advance games while they’re at it.

He is still cool but the character has been written poorly in recent Sonic games just like many other Sonic characters, unfortunately. Metal Sonic was at his peak in Sonic Heroes. He was awesome in that game.
Not really valid considering he hasn’t actually been in any game recently besides heroes (forces was a copy so I don’t count that)

"written poorly"
Metal Sonic isn't written like anything. He does the same thing he's been doing since Sonic CD. The ONLY time he's done something for himself was Sonic Heroes.
@@Essu_ "The only time he's done something for himself is sonic heroes." And sonic rivals 2...he even acted on his own accord in the OVA and IDW.
I absolutely loved how Neo Metal Sonic was the first big bad villain in the Sonic IDW comics!
EXACTLY
Metal is just amazing in IDW and Mania Adventures.
I wish they would have Neo Metal make another appearance in the games.
@@ghosty2548 Super Neo Metal was interesting... for a few panels. Then he loses it and turns into whatever the heck "Master Overlord" is. It was just the most shallow fanservice I have ever seen. It's just a repeat of the last act of Sonic Heroes.
I honestly believe Metal Sonic is overrated. He peaked in Heroes, and that's it.
@@sonicstar917 has thou played Sonic 3 & Knuckles? Metal Sonic knows that he can still be beaten while Super.
While Metal is one of my favorite characters, I do agree with your points. Metal is more than just a robot built by Eggman. Much like Shadow, he’s only put into games for fan service and the stories do very little with him that hasn’t already been done. I want Metal to genuinely feel like an imposing threat again instead of just showing up and losing.
I agree. The characters in modern sonic have been reduced to nothing but useless NPC's. Heroes and the other 2000's games are underappreciated. At least the characters all had a personality and felt relevant to the plots (even if they weren't the best plots.)
Exactly I love Silver, Shadow, and Metal Sonic but it seems only IDW care about these characters and their motives Silver stays in his timeline after he finally sees that he’s won and that his future is saved WHY WASN’T AMAZING MOMENT IN THE GAMES
That blow-out of yours when you ranted on how many times we raced Metal in Stardust Speedway was priceless, yet so true!... I've never seen you this ticked off, yet i love it
Haven't seen him blowing a gasket like this since I watched his Shadow video
Metal is still a really great villain in my opinion, it's just that I feel most of his potential is still really underutilized and they keep on reusing his first boss fight in every single game like make a new boss fight for him? By the way characters in depth I really love your videos
He is in SFR, he's a faster Extreme Gear racer boss that you have to go against as Sonic.
Honestly i think Metal is devoid of potential anymore. There isn't anythign you can do with him without radically changing his entire character.
@@ChaddyFantome i Disagree
They could do him like this: Multiple bossfights with him gradually becoming harder to beat, but despite always losing them, he ends up getting what he wants (Like Eggman's first bossfight in SA1, where he lost but still got a Chaos Emerald from Tails)
Funny story about me involving Metal Sonic. I was first introduced to Metal Sonic in Rivals 2, where I found his dynamic with Shadow and Eggman interesting and even showing actual signs of humanity within itself, willing to even allow Shadow to use a Chaos Emerald it had inside of him the whole time just to allow them to escape, risking the damage it takes doing so. This was an interesting character to me and showed off the potential this character could have.
Fast forward a while and I finally get around to playing Sonic Heroes again, where the furthest I had gotten last time was completing Team Rose’s Story on a GameCube disc (I have gone threw a lot of copies of Heroes throughout my life as I kept losing them). Since I was much better at the game this time around, I made it past the Egg Albatross in Team Sonic’s Story and during the cutscene, who should arise from the fake Eggman was a familiar but strange form, and with an intimidating voice, the colours revealed to me: Metal Sonic.
I was shook. My knowledge of Sonic games was really limited at the time, and looking back, I should have noticed that the shadowy figure in the opening cutscene was Metal, but am I glad I didn’t make that connection instantly. It was a huge surprise to me and although I haven’t finished Heroes fully yet (Chaos Emeralds on PS2 are annoying), his final boss looks amazing, works to support the gameplay you’ve learned throughout the game and has some of the best music in the game, which is saying a lot given how fire Heroes’ soundtrack is.
Metal is one of those characters I wish had better characterisation. He doesn’t have to speak, but he still has the cockiness of Sonic (CD), the brutality of a machine, the feelings of inadequacy (Heroes) and the heart to do right (Rivals 2). Such a character deserves not to be part of the quirky mini-boss squad, but a character deserving of his own stories within the world.
Exactly
True
I think Metal Is More Interesting when he Doing his Own Thing instead of being the Right hand Robot for Eggman. Sonic Heroes is where he Really Broke out and the First Arc in Idw Was Interesting with him as Well. But Now He Just this Tool For Eggman to Use to give Sonic a Slightly Harder Time for Him to Deal With.
Metal could be such a great Loki-type figure in the Sonic universe if he stayed a rebel. Unfortunately he kind of overshadows Eggman when he takes over the way he does, so I understand why ST felt the need to mute and depower the poor robot.
Maybe a nice compromise would be to have him be unable to control the Doctor's other creations so easily and have him be almost exclusively motivated with 1-upping Sonic and "proving his superiority." He would have a reason to appear even when the story doesn't call for it and be a fun boss fight to anticipate.
Basically, let's turn him into Sonic's equivalent to Ridley (Metroid.) This way, he retains autonomy and even leaves open the opportunity for him to team up with the Doc willingly, from time to time, *if* it meant he got the fight/race he wants.
@@CJSai64 I kind of Wanted Him to Be an Ultron character. Eggman Has So Many Metal Sonic Type Robots having One Of Them( The most Famous one) go rouge and be Antagonist to both Sides would have been fun. And Eggman could still use Mecha Sonic or Cyber Sonic or Whatever the Other Sonics Are.
@@KavinCatastrophe Him as a third faction sounds nice, it really does, but him controlling Eggman's robots again would be a bit much, unless Eggman went out of his way to update the software of all his creations so Metal couldn't hack them. And yet, adaptability is Metal's whole shtick, so that wouldn't realistically work either.
I think him solo makes more sense in building him as a one-robot-army who requires the attention of the heroes at any given time because he can't be left unchecked.
@@CJSai64 Yeah it would be cool to see him rebel again but it makes sense both out of and in Universe.
Eggman's a genius, he knows that when Neo Metal backfired to never try that again at risk of his empire being taken over again. He'd also want to keep Metal around cause even though he does lose a good amount of the time he's still a very useful robot and to this day one of his greatest creations.
@@KavinCatastrophe I'd love a 3 factions thing: Sonic, Eggman (and, in classic, Metal) and the third faction depending on the era: Modern would be Metal Sonic and maybe Tails Doll and Metal Knuckles while Classic would be the Hard Boiled Heavies (and maybe Mecha Sonic, since the bad ending implies the explosions didn't actually kill him, and if that were the case in the good ending, he might be *very* angry at Eggman for seemingly abandoning him)
I really miss CD and OVA-era Metal Sonic, where he was kind of a creepy kind of cool
I actually kind of prefer Metal being silent but it needs to be done right. He still has a personality even back in CD as demonstrated by his sprite animations, he doesn't need to talk to demonstrate that and him saying little to nothing makes him seem more stoic and focused he is a machine designed for a singular purpose after all, yeah he's been modified since then but his prime directive is and always will be and should be to surpass Sonic, that kind of ruthless focus also adds to the intimidation factor. He should probably not be completely mute as that might be a bit too limiting but it makes sense for him to be a machine of few words as he really dosn't have any friends to talk with and it instantly sets him apart from the talkative hero characters adding to his appeal as a foil.
I prefer Metal silent too (or at least close to it, I'll take the robotic chirps as well). His silence and his glare have a powerful potential for expression because it forces us to look closer into his actions/motives. He's being underused and misused. Would love to see Metal explored and written in a meaningful way.
He was mute in the OVA and that added alot to his intimidation
@@xspranp7649 He spoke once at the end actually but otherwise yeah that's basically my point, he works best when he's silent and words are not the only way to express character.
I like to believe The Song “What IM Made of” could be about Metal Sonic. Everything he done in Heroes was to show Sonic What he made of. He rebuilt himself with his Two hands that allow him to be set free from Eggman. “But when it just to much to take you sneak from behind” could be referencing how he lost in Sonic CD. There many other Examples but it kind of Sad he still ended up losing despite having a dope ass theme song. He use Sonic friends power to become Stronger but he Miscalculated That their true power was their Friendship. Corny I know.
That is definitely my favorite song of the Adventure Era. As the symbol of one character, it's roughly equal with any of the main themes of that period, but it somehow serves as a symbol for _both_ characters at once! Open Your Heart doesn't do that, Live and Learn doesn't really do that, and Shadow's themes don't even try to encompass more than himself.
@@ShadwSonic Open your Heart song is Technically about Both Chaos And Sonic. "Ancient cities blazing" Could the Angel Island Burning in the Past.
"Shadows keep attacking
Little children crying
Confusion, hopeless anger" could also be about the Chao being attacked by the Echidnas and Chaos getting upset and Transforming into Perfect Chaos. But Live and Learn does seem to be Just About Shadow Though. Just love Over analyzing these Song Lyrics
@@KavinCatastrophe I meant more in the "who's singing this?" sense.
@@ShadwSonic Ohhhhhh. I did not Get that.
I always thought it was meant to be from Sonic's perspective but that actually does make a hell of a lot of sense, it could be that was the intent all along, or maybe it's supposed to work equally well for both characters kinda like "It has to be this way" from Metal Gear Rising.
Dude, I wholeheartedly agree! I’m sick of the way SEGA is treating Metal Sonic now. I want him to go back to the way he was in Heroes. And for fuck sake, they need to make him talk again.
And yes, I’m also sick of the Stardust Speedway type races.
They shouldn't keep reusing the stupid Stardust Speedway type races period.
@@calebproductions1264 Exactly. From now on, I want Sonic to have an actual fight against Metal Sonic, similar to how they fought in the OVA.
@That Roboguy and the fact that we're getting a colors remaster, which have those stupid wisps that nobody gives a shit about, tells you more than enough that they're running out of ideas.
@@calebproductions1264 Yeah. I’m not buying that trash, when it comes out. I’d rather wait for Sonic Rangers. And of course those Adventure remakes.
@@SuperSonicWarrior93 the only thing it's doing right is lowering the price to $40, that's it, it doesn't excuse the shitty plot, the lame gameplay, the overuse of wisps just making it easy, and the fact it's gonna be even more easier to beat than the original says a lot.
Also I'm calling the new game Sonic Zap for now until it's official.
In my mind, I thought it would've been funny if Chaotix, trying to find Eggman, and somehow find Neo Metal and that would be the fight.
I actually didn't realize how often he's showed up in recent games, yet he's so unremarkable in most of those appearances that I didn't even notice his presence.
The main reason why I want metal Sonic in the sonic movie sequel is because of this exact topic and maybe he can actually be scary while being cool at the same time.
It's just sad that we have to rely on the movie, (made by Hollywood), to actually do the characters justice.
@@iamtoychica4302 yeah it’s like Sega doesn’t even care about there own mascot anymore and i really hope when 2022 is here (the real year of sonic) it proves us wrong especially when the sonic movie ,sonic prime ,and the next mainline sonic game (most likely called sonic rangers) comes out and I hope that they are all good if not great so that way it shows that they do care and by then sonic will be back in the spotlight.
"this is Mega level Digimon stuff" FINALLY, SOMEONE ELSE SAID IT! he even pretty much has a full Digimon line!
Sonic and Digimon are my 2 fav franchises, seeing them having things from one another is amazing to me!
Digimon fans represent!! I always thought Chaosdramon has to be in some way related to Metal Sonic Kai in design, like one was based on the other. Chaosdramon was made years after Chaotix released, so it might have been inspired in some way by Metal Sonic Kai. Then Heroes came out closely after Chaosdramon became a thing in the Vpets, and Metal Overlord has huge similarities to Chaosdramon and Machinedramon in general. Like the arms, one claw and one hand thing. Might just be coincidence but I always thought there was some crossover and inspiration going on, it's so similar.
@@Squishito i Also had That feeling that they were similar, but wasnt sure which came 1st.
Now im imagining Sonic or Eggman making a coment on their similarities in an actual crossover haha
You could title this video “Is any sonic character cool anymore?”
And nobody would have argued with you..
I'm saddened for this
I'm pretty sure a lot of people would argue that at bare minimum Eggman is still cool.
Hey I get the reference
Sonic characters may be misused, but they'll always be cool
I like to think that after Heroes, Eggman was trying to put Metal on a tighter leash after his betrayal, removing his voice chip and implementing stricter programing to make him more of a slave. Or at least that's my justification for his soulless behavior post Heroes.
It'd be great to see Metal Sonic have some kind of character arc again.
Finally, someone agrees with me. Metal Sonic is a character who has ton of potential. Sega keeps using him in the wrong way
Like they do with all of the other Sonic characters now. It’s sad.
As a kid I always imagine Metal as his own person who would team with whoever needed if it meant beating Sonic. He was created for the sole purpose of out-matching sonic so I always thought he just put up with Eggman since he was the best asset to beating Sonic.
The way heroes deserved a more in depth story so we could have more time exploring Neo metal sonic and his new persona 😔😔😔
Yup. He's still cool. Not from the games where Eggman basically forces him to race like in Stardust speedway over and over again, but mostly what he does in official animations. In Sonic mania adventures I love it when he took Ray the flying squirrel hostage in exchange for a chaos emerald and the recent footage of how he mercilessly executed the wisps in the Sonic Re:colors trailer. The story also remains unexplained how he came to be Neo Metal Sonic and I'm eager to see if it has anything to do with Eggman's "Failed experiments"
I like what's being done with him in IDW.
Stardust Speedway music plays
In Depth: triggered and breaks the tv.
Neo Metal manipulated events of an entire game, gained powers of various past antagonists and protagonists and nearly won with the largest fleet seen thus far.
Metal post Heroes is nothing more than nostalgia bait.
Sonic team doesn't even follow "rule of cool" anymore and that stuff is easy.
also the only reason it was even possible to fight him before he was unstoppable was Eggman giving instructions to either slow down Metal or to gain passage (...or find 10 crabs to prove their investigation skills)
4:18 also to give One more point to how cool metal Sonic Is
"What i am made of" Is not refered to Sonic but to Metal showing Sonic his Power at his peak, man i miss this times
It can even be argued it refers to BOTH
Sometimes it’s frustrating being a fan-favorite of any of the Sonic characters.
Not sometimes all the time

Sonic Heroes turned Metal into my favorite character, sadly after heroes Sega didn't do much with him and never went forward with him as a character. Bits of changes and development came through over the years though.
Really appreciate how he's being handled in the IDW comics, I only hope they keep it up, also I do not want Metal to become a good guy like how Shade the Metal was one, I do want Metal to be his own person.
At least Eggman has a more father and son relationship now days. So maybe that can be worked into his next appearance. We all know it'll be soon.
Poor Metal Sonic. He's got so much potential to be a great threat and to reestablish himself as Sonic's rival, but Sega never does anything with him other than cheap fan service. He's capable of so much more. At the very least, it wouldn't kill Sega to let the guy speak again!
I like to think if Sonic and Metal Sonic had a talk (mostly Sonic as Metal can't speak) Sonic talks that Metal could do anything or be anything he wants instead of Eggman's lacy, but Metal shows on some TV screams videos of Sonic doing his thing, when Sonic realises that Metal want's to be like him, he askes why can't he on to show videos of Sonic beating Metal, without words, Metal Sonic is saying "I want to be just like you, but you won't let me." even showing videos and images of Metal trying to go out on his own only to be brought down by Sonic or his friends and having to be rebuilt or reprogramed by Eggman, showing that because Sonic can't let Metal be what he wants to be, he's forced to always come crawling back to Eggman and forced to always be under his thumb
Metal was always such a treat to see in Heroes. I played the game when I was a kid but didn't get the final story until a decade later, and it was glorious. I somehow never had Metal Madness/Overload spoiled in that time and went nuts when he transformed, easily my favorite Metal moment and probably one of my top three most exciting events in my life. It's also nice how everyone contributes to defeating the final boss (unlike a certain other game that constantly referenced teamwork despite only two guys actually doing work). It'd be cool if he had liquid metal Tails and Knuckles clones for a bit in a team battle against Team Sonic have a team battle. Also, I never thought of the the reason Metal had when you pointed out he kidnapped Froggy. MAN I miss when Sonic lore was so tight.
I really wish he was in Shadow the Hedgehog instead of Omega though, it'd be cool if your choice in Lava Shelter would determine if he sides with Eggman again or overthrows him for good alongside Shadow. That would have been pretty sick (it's not like Omega contributed to the plot in that game anyways).
I've actually got Metal in my fan game as both a boss and playable character (both of which can use the Neo Metal form). I still don't know if I'll give him a proper voice outside of the Neo form, but he's used quite a bit in one of the three stories, but he's silent. I'll likely fix that with rewrites in scripts, but I do want to do my robo boi justice, just like all the other characters. Mostly since he's one of the most ruined characters.
*cough cough* sonic forces *cough cough*
I just wanna say, you're one of my all-time favorite CZcams channels. You know all these characters from all these different franchises better than anyone else I've ever known.
You know, I’m surprised no one’s brought up Metal’s characterization in the OVA. Next to Heroes, it’s my favorite portrayal of him since it shows him as more than Robotnik’s lackey; he’s part *Sonic* as well, and having the part of him with Sonic’s personalities and values at war with Robotnik’s encoded directives makes for interesting character development.
0:57 Fun Fact: There is a skin for Metal Sonic in Sonic Rivals 2, which is Metal Sonic 2.0.
Always thought Rivals 2 was a good continuation of Metal's character. Eggman does try to reprogram him to be more obedient, but Metal's personality does shine through in the end and he finally managed to be a hero in his own right, just like the hedgehog he so desperately wants to prove he's the superior version of. The IDW comics and Mania Adventures played with it too.
So whenever Metal returns, bring back his depression-
It actually kind of makes sense why he doesn’t have as much character anymore, which is because Eggman doesn’t want Metal to turn on him again, so he took away most of his free will.
I honestly don’t care how he’s portrayed. He’s my favorite villain because he’s the perfect example of the “evil copy of the hero” trope that I love so much. It doesn’t matter the context of the story, or what form he’s in, or how powerful he is, if I’m fighting Metal Sonic, I’m happy.
Also, why would an arena battle make any sense for him? Sonic’s whole thing is speed, and Metal Sonic is a copy of him, speed included. At the VERY least, bosses against him should be high-speed chases, but an arena fight would just feel weird
Great video! I didn't know that much about him till I watched your amazing video
I think IDW and rise of the wisps made him cool again. Rather than just being another robot, Eggman prides him as his greatest creation and they do a great job at giving him personality without dialogue. Like that scene when he’s wandering around Starline’s lab alone. Just the fact that seeing Metal Sonic was enough to restore Eggman’s memories in the Tinker story is proof enough that he’s not just another lackey
Current metal sonic is a far cry from the robot that stutters and explodes after being jumped on a few times in 4 and gens
Imagine a mega boss stage titled: Eggman’s arsenal. A stage where you fight all 3 main metal versions in a row, sonic 2 metal, sonic 3 metal and finally the actual version
The IDW comics did explain why we fought Metal's Phantom instead if the real deal. Metal explained that he was upgraded to Neo Metal Sonic again and was to be the greatest weapon in the final battle but was completed too late.
Quick side note: Infinite most likely made copies of Metal because Metal is already so powerful like the other copies, Shadow, Chaos, Zavok (Zavok is strong but a crappy villain). They can't use Mephiles because he was erased from existence, Time Eater would be far too destructive, same with Dark Gaia, so Zavok is the last Villain left.
I mean, they could've had Chaos, Shadow, Metal and Infinite and it could be like a Fantastic Four team.
in the IDW Sonic Comics they actually give Metal cool glimpses in his personality (even without dialogue) hell hes even the main villain of one of the first arcs
"He's a robot, but he's not a tool"
Good way to put it
I like to think Metal's weird gurgling sounds is Eggman suppressing him. Essentially 'I don't have a mouth but must scream.'
Metal Sonic has always been cool, I mean look at his character design, I love it!
Honestly I wouldn't mind if he stays as Eggman's minion, but I agree that they should do more with him. Being forced back into servitude does not mean he has to forego all of his character, he can still do things on his own. Heck it could be as simple as Eggman saying "Metal, stop them! I don't care how you do it." to set-up that whatever comes up next is Metal's plan, not the doctor's, and give opportunities to flesh him out more.
As for whether he talks or stays silent, I always figured the best route would be to have him like Soundwave from Transformers Prime: dead silent while kicking ass and only speaking on rare occasions. But honestly either alone would be better than those weird robot sounds he has now, there's nothing intimidating about those.
Now that I think about it, *Sonic 4* of all things had the potential for semi-interesting writing for Metal. Look at what he does: he finds the weird artifact in Lost Labyrinth that gives him a power boost. He rushes off to catch Sonic only to find he's already gone, so he uses the rocket that was left behind to chase him. He fights Sonic & Tails "normally" in White Park. He fails. He tries to shoot them down with a battleship while they're flying to Sky Fortess. He fails. He notices he's constantly beaten by the "power of teamwork", so he teams up with Eggman at Death Egg mk2. _He fails._ He's so desparate to beat Sonic that he challenges him to a race, despite there being absolutely no reason to do so (as you've pointed out in the video). And he fails. He fails. *He fails.* He's tried everything, new and old. All for nothing. This could've been a good (retroactive) buildup to his breaking point in Heroes, had Sonic 4 taken itself seriously instead of being a cashgrab with droplets of passion here and there.
Metal Sonic should do a AI Geth stance(Does this unit have a soul?) an forge his own path far afield from the not so good Doctors shadow.🌌
Honestly, I like Metal better when he can't talk. It makes him more alien and menacing, like he's supposed to be like Sonic but there's something wrong about him.
I love Metal in the IDW comics. He's the first main villain, and even once he goes back to being Eggman's lackey, he still has a ton of great moments
Tbh at least comics and mania adventures cared about him as a character.
Even tho he is still looked as an eggman lackie they gave him a new characteristic that works and still adds to some of his old traits.
Now he sees Eggman as his father like a caring father even.
When ı said like that it looks dumb but in execution it works wonders. Actually ı would like to see a story that shows his change from Heroes Metal to that version of Metal.
He looks at Eggman like a father and weirdly enough Eggman also looks at him like a son. İt's a weirdly wholesome dynamic.
Also Metal still contains his old traits while being that and it being feel inferior. İnferior to Sonic.
Metal always wanted to be better than Sonic. And Comic stories and mania adventures shows those really well.
When ı watch their fight in mania adventures even if there is no word ı can see their rivalry ı can even say both kinda enjoy this.
And ep 6 is just. You really feel sad for Metal. He lost again Eggman just leaved him like trash and he just waits there. Not because he can't come back(because we see he can move). But he just done for. He lost to Sonic again. And even Eggman leaved him again. And now he just wants all the end. And then Amy shows up. And from all the characters from the series Amy is the one that helps Metal. Like how she helped Gamma she now helps Metal the one she is scared of the one who hurt her but she still helps because that's who she is. And then the ending Amy brings him to Eggman's door and cleans Metal to show him. And then she gives him a flower. And well leaves Metal to Eggman and funny enough Metal looks shocked like he doesn't know what to do he just goes with what Amy wants him to do. And Eggman takes back Metal. And not only that but in the ending we see Metal still holding that flower.
This is a dynamic ı never thought that this would be perfect. Out of all people the one Metal appeared with the one he kidnaped was the one who saved him. Now that's care put into both Amy and him.
And comics oh my Idw again showed how great they can make Metal. First he again became the main villian in first arc and he can talk again(for a while). And in Metal virus saga just wow.
I recommend every Metal fan to look at his one shot in Metal Virus. He says no word but when you see him you understand his feelings. İt's just beautiful.
So yeah even tho Sega fails at games in Metal Sonic because they use him like Green hill again Fans and talented writers are the ones who still make him so damn cool and even relatable.
6:49 Lick my frozen, metal ass!
That was hilarious, I must say!
While Metal has always been my favourite, I can’t deny I’ve been longing for his Neo form to come back, since him in his regular form is just being shoehorned into every game and not being used to his full potential.
While IDW’s approach is refreshing, I still believe Neo Metal Sonic could do with being a boss character or hey maybe even a playable character. But, who knows what the franchise has in store after Colours Ultimate?
I'm glad metal sonic has been done justice in the IDW comics. Matter of fact I'm glad the IDW comics are a thing since they pretty much are the only material that give me the things I look for in these characters.
(Obviously expect shadow)
Great video man just curious what do you think of metals incarnation in the idw comics from the angel island arc to post metal virus?
i think they should have explored his rivalry with sonic and his friendship with eggman, not just a lackey but an actual friend to eggman. he works for him out of respect and despise of sonic.
I know he was given deep personality in Heroes, but I think what's happening now is for the best and so, he is still OK. Sonic already has many rivals like shadow and knuckles. When Metal debuted, he was supposed to be the ultimate robot made by eggman to defeat Sonic. He was supposed to be a robot who would get new updates and abilities given to him by Eggman to defeat Sonic. He is basically Eggman's Ace in his robot army. Making him betray Eggman again would contradict the fact that Eggman hasn't learnt anything from his past mistakes. I feel like he was great in rise of the wisps.
He is not just like "I am a slave for Eggman" like mecha sonic. He is considered superior and responsible when Eggman isn't around. He is also not showed like "Eggman gave me an order. I will do it no matter what happens." He is aware of his surroundings and knows what to do and shows a bit of emotion as well rather than just having a 😶 face. I know it's not their full potential but it's a good direction. I hope part 2 does more for all the characters. (I would like to see Metal to get that "Copy" ability so that part 2 could be more challenging and action packed)
Honestly they should’ve had Metal Sonic in Colors as the main antagonist using the Wisps to fight sonic having him as a serious threat.
If Metal returns in the Frontiers DLC, hopefully he can have a story with Sage. In the IDW comics he views Eggman as a loving father figure so him being a big brother to Sage in certain instances could be an interesting direction to take the character that could make him more wholesome and sympathetic.
That would work really well
the IDW comics used him SO WELL. the metal virus finale actually used a great way to make a charachter
Ultimately SEGA and Pontaff butchering most of the Sonic cast's characters is the definition of the Character Derailment trope for all those in video games.
Metal doesn't really NEED to talk since he is already capable of showing what he thinks through his actions such as in IDW reflections chapter
Neo Metal Sonic is the best version of Metal Sonic

I am proud of you
Fun Fact: The Sonic voice actors voiced all Sonic Rivals, except for Silver and Blaze.
Knuckles - Sonic Shuffle
Metal Sonic - Sonic Heroes
Shadow - Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic 06
Jet - Sonic Riders 1 & Zero Gravity
When was Shadow voiced by Ryan in Heroes?
@@lpfan4491 yeah OP was mistaken ig they forgot which game the 4Kids voice actors started on
@@lpfan4491 actually I looked it up and it was not in Heroes, but in SA2 when Ryan voiced Shadow--just a couple lines during Final Hazard tho, David Humphrey was apparently unavailable for recording at that time :0
2:25 To be honest, I don't even blame anyone for getting it wrong. Besides the origin of the Chaos Rings being regionlocked to japan(That they are parts of the Master Emerald's power), it's was a pretty dumb move on the part of the development team to make the Master Ring(Or whatever it would be called) one of the fakes made by Eggman instead of a real one. It's just confusing for no reason.
3:42 That is also the reason why he needed a chao to properly reverse-engineer the data. The Chao garden in the adventure games reveals that Chaos is a rare mutated one.
3:57 Honestly, what I like about this form the most is that it serves as an in-narrative plottwist. At first glance, one doesn't think much of it because he copied Chaos' data. However, after Shadow the Hedgehog(I know people hate that game), it's clearer why he became this airborne juggernaut specifically. It is a corrupted copy of Black Doom's devil-form through Shadow's ultimate lifeform-data.

Zavok: Zomom, eat the bald one.
Zomom: Yeah, but which one?
Zavok: The one who isn’t a zeti!
Zomom: OK! *jumps to Krillin*
Krillin: Buu did… AAAAH! *Krillin got swallowed*
My Sonic Robo Blast 2 addicted brain flashed when you mentioned new theme and areana fight
I love Metal Sonic, easily my favorite Sonic character, but yeah, been seeing a lot of videos over the past year or so that he’s just been downgraded to a drone.
Metal's really grown on me. Him talking was cool in its instance. But I'd never want him to be able to talk permanently. There's no quicker way to run him further into bland mediocrity.
Imo his inability to speak like everyone else fits and even amplifies his frustration about being a double of Sonic -- an expressive hero who's capable of forming easy connections with others (something Metal underestimated, to his loss). It marks Metal as an 'Other,' which is his curse. It'd give the writers an opportunity to come up with more original ways to show us his motives, etc. So if he talks, I'd like it to be extremely rare and toward a significant purpose.
0:58 Actually, Modern Metal Sonic is 2.0. and Classic Metal Sonic ( from Sonic CD ) is 1.0.
Source?
@@jamiegioca9448 that’s a hypothesis. If Generations didn’t use the actual Modern Sonic, this means that the classic one is certainly 1.0. and the Modern 2.0.
Not really.
Metal 1.0 and 2.0 refer to the 2 you fight in Rivals 1 as nether of them were the real Metal Sonic there were copies of the copy created by Eggman Nega to improve his Eggman impersonation.
Rivals 1 even directly states the second time you fight Metal than the Metal in the first what was destroyed and the new on uses data recorded from the first one to be better.
Metal Sonic chronologically(including timetravel):
The original was beaten and badly damaged in Stardust Speedway bad future.
After this, Eggman creates a new and improved model called Metal Sonic Kai, which gets destroyed by Knux.
The original is awoken in Sonic 4, gets beaten again and ends up in a tube in SA1.
The original then proceeds that he is sick of the nonsense and Heroes happens.
Eggman Nega creates two copies of Metal Sonic, both are destroyed.
Eggman Nega creates the third fully developed version of Metal Sonic based on old data from Metal Sonic 2.0 from his time.
Metal Sonic 3.0 is disposed of and after that, it's all the original metal or an illusion copy in Forces.
At an unspecified time after the series ends, Eggman or one of his descendants takes the most recent data and blueprints and creates the Metal Sonic 2.0-model.
Well for the Phantom Copy of Metal, you haven't heard but Eggman was upgrading the real Metal back to his Neo form in the IDW Comics as we finally have Neo Metal back at last! But it was more for an arc and he's back to his original form again...
I went from "OH SHIT! IT'S HIM!" to "Ah shit...it's him.."
I think metal sonic is good but I can see how he can be less than cool in certain aspects. When I played Sonic Mania, him just standing there mocking Sonics pose in Act 2 and turning into a beast in Plus was so cool to me. In the Sonic Mania shorts, you see how he’s menacing and calculated when faced with certain situations, but is can be sensitive to losing showing he’s not entirely a mindless robot. I feel like he should have the same kind of vein as bowser jr.: he should be used less so he is more appreciated when he appears but not too much to where the community gets sick of him.
Say did you play or know of Noah Coopland’s Sonic Triple Trouble fan remake? As it has Metal Sonic in it and he was done good, plus having a point to the story.
At least Sonic 4 gave him a new theme, and it was pretty cool
What's it called?
For Sonic 4, I actually think this was a _good_ inclusion. Think about it: before that point in the timeline, he was just the newest robo copy of Sonic, not really a character yet. But the Ruins level for him... it gave him a plausible reason to gain awareness, and the failure at the end was a reason to hate Sonic _and_ Eggman. In other words, _it made Heroes even more sensible!_
This is not the case for anything else post-Heroes in the timeline though. He basically feels as if the Metal that was Neo had been _deleted,_ leaving just this soulless copy. Understandable, given the whole "betrayed the Doc" thing, but it also lessens his importance to the point that he might as well not be referenced.
Well atleast this Game explained why Metal betrayed Eggman in Sonic Heroes (sort of)
🤓🤡☝️
metal sonic and shadow were probably my favourites for purely looking cool
The shot in Heroes where Omega is holding Metal Sonic and looking at Shadow speaks volumes to me. I feel like there’s some hidden potential for character growth with these three’s dynamic. Like, there’s several interesting similarities. All 3 were created by a member of the Robotnik family and all gained some sort of sense of independence. Keywords being “some sort.” Shadow found his purpose of protecting Earth, Omega broke out of Eggman’s control and became his own person. Metal Sonic also went independent once, but what if he still had a bit of that Eggman influence in his programming, making him adopt Eggman’s goal of world domination? After that, Metal is loyal to Eggman again. When you really think about it, his goal of becoming the superior Sonic is just something he adopted from Eggman. Who knows if it’s actually something he wants. If you ask me, it’d be so interesting to see an arc where Shadow feels some pity for Metal and wants to help him become his own person instead of blindly following Eggman and find out what *he* truly wants.
You might wanna watch Lord Danny's video on Neo Metal Sonic
6:49
That made me laugh super hard
8:02 in Lego Dimensions they utilized Mecha sonic from Sonic 2, not that it helps much metal's situation, but it is worth mentioning (even though it's not even on the main franchise)
At least the comics still treating him as a character
Poor Metal Sonic, he was a great villain and had better days.😞😔
I do think they could change the boss fight to arena style, but racing against metal Sonic feels amazing and it’s one of the best ways to put him in a boss fight
I had an idea recently, which I feel would be good to tackle on your channel.
I’ve heard for years that many hate sonic characters and think they don’t belong in these games…but a few seem to always be met with tons of praise and approval. That being Mighty and Ray.
Having thought more on it, I feel as though these guys might only be liked cause they’re mainly classic characters at this point, and haven’t been part of the great Sonic Character Hate Train because of that.
But I’d like to hear your thoughts on them as characters, to get a better understanding of their significance.
It's kind of the same reason Cream or Blaze aren't hated nowadays. They don't even appear anymore, so they haven't been ruined.
What significance? They are dead characters that appeared in the most overrated Sonic game.
Neo Metal Sonic is the best Metal Sonic Version and should be used everytime
Amazing video. Metal sonic is one of my favorites. 3d Metal sonic fight one on one sounds nice.
Thanks, Edward :)
@@charactersin-depth3472 You're welcome. I agree with your reasoning Metal sonic can be overused as a rival race.
An better outcome for metal I think instead of him being back the slave of eggman, Is him being independant like:
He dosnt loose his personality after he was defeated back as neo and when he fell from the sky he forgets or his system resets making him erase his primal objective of killing sonic and make him an arc or evolution like android 16 were he finds a reason to live to protect something he likes or make him doubt about his existance of why he was created and have path similar to dinobot of beast wars
Or another path if he remains as evil he could go with breezie and become some kind of guard or comrade working with her
Also they could give metal the thought of “why do i look like sonic?” “Why must I be his copy?” “Why can’t i be myself?” And he will decide to change his apperance and change his name
Metal Sonic is simultaneously overused and underused.
He's in everything as a boss or cameo but in nothing as a character.
so like nearly every sonic char?
5:25
I actually love his Sound effects alot, tp be honest more than metal sonic neos voice, cause its so unique.
the only game i don't mind racing Metal (beside CD, it's the first anyway) is Mania because it happens in Stardust Speedway, which is already established to be "the place you race Metal Sonic" zone in the franchise.
5:25 I guess he's trying to speak but Robotnik removed that feature after heroes (along with removing Metal's sentience)
5:26 Ngl I liked the sound effects.
I think they fit Metal since he's no able to talk.
Out of curiosity, did you see the latest Sonic Color shorts starring Metal Sonic? I want to know your opinions on him in those shorts.
