- In 1991 I was sleeping in my car, I had $35 to my name, everything I had could fit into two bags. I started talking to God about my dreams... Fast forward, out of nowhere I get a call from the Apollo asking me to come on the show. That same night I met D.L. Hughley, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Jamie Foxx for the first time. We were all comedians that went on that night. This is my Apollo story and how I became the host. This was my turnback moment.
Everybody has a turn back moment, it's the moment you can either go forward or give everything up. There's one guarantee if you give up it will never happen. Faith is everything, God is always on time, he's never too late.

This is a very powerful story!!! I know the struggle. I flunked the first grade, I grew up with a learning disability all throughout middle school and high school. I barely graduated high school. I was abandoned by family. In 2009 I was homeless with no money and living on the streets with no money having to beg for food. It gets worst. Several years ago I was shot 3 times close range, I was shot in the back of my head, I was shot in my stomach, I was shot in my groin area and when I got to the hospital I was pronounced dead and now I am a motivational speaker sharing my story. I remember Steve being in the Apollo and he was funnier in real life then he was on air. He reminded me of Richard Pryor although I never got the sense that he was copying Pryor. I’m so glad he has made it. He’s such an inspiration for me.

It's an honour to hear this story of Steve Harvey, just as I am finishing my diploma in university. I have been through a lot already growing up without financial support. But I've learnt to stand up on my own, at least now I know that I have to work hard and go an extra mile to get the lifestyle I desire. I have also the similar story. I have 3 young kids at that time and their dad just passed away with cancer. I have nothing left. I and my kids are living in a rented small apartment. I was just started reading a Bible. And God told me to find this Church that my friend introduced me. Sometimes, hardship makes you closer to God. I never forget, since the day, God open my eyes thru this Church! Many doors was unlocked for me. God gave me everything what I have prayed & dreamed for. I am no perfect but I continue to live my faith with Him.🙏🏼

What I appreciate about you Mr. Harvey, is that it is one thing to tell people they should do this, or they should that, and some people get along pretty good sometimes. It's another thing to have done what you are talking about and giving your experience, strength and hope. There are people in church, not necessarily the ones at the pulpit, but the ones that may meet in the basement for coffee on a wednesday, or a tuesday night. Some of them have recovered from a hopeless state of mind and being, and they are willing to share their experience, strength and hope to others that want it. Some of the most broken, or and some so society's worst come there for help, and hopefully to listen. They show them that there is a better way of living, and that those coming there are worthy and worth it. So when you talk, you give in a similar fashion. Your stories are your own, your experiences are your own, and only you can tell them in the way you do. Thanks for being inspirational to many many people in what you do. it's greatly appreciated.

It’s amazing how successful people can still feel the pain and struggle and cry about it. Some of those tears are sad tears...some of those tears are grateful tears.
