The week-old reed has your sound go forward and out while the newer reed just sounds forward. Great video!
It does! reeds are so quirky
The week old reed sounds smoother in sound, but the day old reed still sounds really really good.
Double reeds is double trouble. great tips. Thanks Danny.
hahaha!
This is so helpful and encouraging - thank you!!
Awesome! Glad it was helpful!
Muchas gracias
Going to work on the long tones today...RIP my neighbors
hahaha Have fun!
My reed source is my private lesson teacher.
I still cannot make a functioning reed....
Overall, IMHO, my tone stinks. Oboe is not my primary instrument having picked up learning it about 3 yrs. I played professionally (flute family) for the US Army several years ago. I play in a local Orchestra (started out playing flute) and the principle oboist suggested I pick up the Oboe so I accepted the challenge. Being a perfectionist that I am, right now going through the frustrating phase of achieving that GORGEOUS tone of the oboe. Yes, I do tonal work - but most likely could probably do a LOT more - and focus more on that. I also have that reed frustration overall, too. I also do reed work. During my routine exercises when playing, I also focus on wind, pressure, posture, etc. I will continue to plug away at it and hopefully will FINALLY achieve that gorgeous and wonderful tone of the oboe. And, yes, I do practice a LOT as well.
Thank you for this! Brand new beginner here and I've already fallen in love with it.
I was wondering, why do you kind of dip the reed in in your mouth once before playing?
I think it is just a habit now because I didn’t know you were supposed to soak the rrrd when I was a kid so I was always trying to get the reed more wet with my mouth….
I feel like my tone always sounds like a soprano saxophone. How do I make it more distinguishable as an oboe?
Hi sir I just found a plastic oboe, a Bundy for $450.00 dollars.
