  • Bad Air Deep Underground
    We didn't expect to get this deep underground right up here, that was for sure! Problem was that the air quality gradually decreased until we met a collapse beyond which we hit dangerously low levels os oxygen - not a fun return journey as having already used up a large percentage of the breathable oxygen and leaving behind higher levels of CO2 with breathing, the trip back was slow and tiring. We've got the dreaded meter set to a fairly low level, so once this trips off we know for sure that we need to retreat immediately.

    I'm a fabricator welder and many years ago I was contracting for Yorkshire water replacing open mesh flooring in the reservoir valve towers (before HSE went over the top mental) we had to use gas alarms but soon found out while removing the old flooring with the oxy acteylene it immediately sang it's head off so was left in the van for the duration ☹️😁. Loving your work boys.

      Lol yes, for the old meter I ended up damaging the speakers (on purpose) to shut the thing up - would trigger at 19% I think it was which was just too sensitive for use in a mine - it still flashed and vibrated though but was really more of a pain in the buttocks than help, worse in that it wouldn't stop until it was put back to 21% or whatever (meant leaving the mine with it - hence the 'shutting up' procedure). The old one couldn't really be user programmed unfortunately and the manufacturer wanted as much as the thing cost to re-program it. Was glad when the thing died lol. Thanks for your likes!

      @@MineExploration I became obsessed with mines growing up in the Yorkshire dales. Grassington moor and cononley and Eveready push bike torch. All drifts blocked on grassington moor now but plenty of shafts. Cononley is still accessable but waist deep water on lower levels due to dam on lowest adit entrance. Gated at the top but you can squeeze through. Looking back I must have been mad wading through freezing water on my own in shorts and Woolworth pumps with no alarm one torch and no one knowing where I was about the age of 12!!! Thanks for your efforts I really enjoy watching mate.

    Hi guys, the portal was pretty nice stonework so I was expecting it to be more substantial too with that great big tailings pile. The crystals in there were really cool to see, I do love sparkly mines though lol. I'm glad you listened to the meter and retreated straight away as that could have turned out quite different. I take it Gary is the silent type as he doesn't really say too much. Thank you both for sharing, much love. xx 🙏💖

      Lol, on some of our really old videos Gary used to have his own camera as well - I think they were all on our personal Facebook pages before our CZcams channel was started, looking back the quality was rather poor though because we went with really big lighting but it had the awful blind spot right in the middle of the shot where the beam was so focussed - I find the newer opaque flood to be a load better. But yes, I'm pretty sure Gary did speak occasionally when he had the camera lol! (He does actually talk quite a lot but is out of the mic's range most of the time)

      Yes... we'll see how long this lasts before it gets the 'silence' treatment as well lol!
      We're doing well thank you :) :) A few planned trips coming up but we're only able to get out every fortnight because of one thing and another, but it's nice now that the weather is drying up a bit as there's nowt worse than a day filming to find the mics were full of water the whole time, looking forward to seeing everyone's videos as the season opens up for the summer, there's only so many 'skater breaks arm' videos I can watch before the neighbours think i've lost it with the constant laughing.

    Went in that one recently, glad we turned back, it's in our 2 rough mines video, started feeling the effects much sooner than you did, but was in Summer so likely worse air back there. I was quite glad to be out of there. Problem is that there are no shafts or anything so there is no airflow in that one. There is another one up there, which you were so close too. Not sure if it runs though. Yes, I had to lie down before going in there lol

      Gonna have a butchers at the vid now (sorry I've had little time on the internet lately with one thing and another going on) - wish I'd seen it before the horrendous climb up lol! (I have a terrible internet connection at home and zero mobile signal, I don't seem to get live responses to comments etc even with Studio installed, gonna have to look at settings or something so sorry for the late responses most of the time, it's my connection over here. I always have to upload via work which is on fibre but at home the internet/general connection to the outside world is muddy lolly)

    This is an old trial level with no ore shoots or workings I think they were looking for a cross vain Tom was the spoil all shale with no calcite or limestone if it's all shale it's normally a trial

    • @MineExploration
      @MineExploration  Před 3 lety

      Yes, all fine shale. Had a bit of a dig and found quite a few rail shoes(?) but no signs of anything else. The mine had no real vein of any interest or deposits of any quantity of quartz. I assumed that they were hoping to intersect the Southern section of Slitt Vein or similar - having said this the mine needed to take a easterly direction to be in with a chance of intersecting better deposits, though these would have been poor from the records as 'Slitt' was not really a good earner from all accounts.
