Hi Tom & Gary, a very cool video, I love hearing about the history in different regions but it is so much more enjoyable to actually have a video showing you what's left and what it may have been. That was a huge owl that was sleeping there and a very clever one too as he was out the wind and colder weather.. Always nice to have a farmer that is happy for you to explore, much better than having to sneak in when they aren't looking and risk a shotgun up the ass lol. 1932 probably a trap of some description
It is a trap for small egg eating animals. Many of the mines are located in Grouse shooting areas, traps are laid all over the place to ensure that the eggs of the grouse aren't eaten before the 'alpha male gentry' can blow the birds to bits in an arranged shoot. Very common all over the North East and likely the many other areas as well.
