“ONE PIECE Small Lid Jar” with “Snow on the Moon” Glaze Throwing on the Potter’s Wheel

- Today's project is a "ONE PIECE Small Lid Jar" with the "Snow on the Moon" glaze.
The ONE PIECE series is one of my favorite techniques. It involves throwing a pot and then separating it into parts at the greenware stage.
This jar has a small lid, which means I need to throw a narrower top and then close the pot.
Compared to the flash lid jar, this style requires more practice. However, the elegant shape makes it worth trying.
I use my standard glaze, "Snow on the Moon," for this pot, so I need to use black clay for this project.

I absolutely love your videos. You go through every step in detail for every video - even the centering and coning. Other potters just tell you to watch their other videos. I also love that you go from start to finish in the entire video. Please make more!
Thank you 😊 Your comment is very helpful. I’m trying to make videos that I wanted to watch when I started pottery. I’m so glad my concept is working.
I love that you show the whole process. And I find it so fulfilling to see the glazed pieces at the end too. Thank you so much for sharing your art and your process with me and with the whole world you're kind voice makes my whole day better.
🥰 You are always kind to me Wascally. I didn’t include my glazing process so far as it is not particularly special. This “The Snow on The Moon” is different technique so I thought it would worth including in the process. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
The final result gives me a sense of peace and originality. Thank you
🥰Thank you Alexa!
this is my 2nd time watching. i can't wait to try both the form and the glaze technique!
Thank you for watching 😊 This is a really fun method! I’m looking forward to hearing your experience .
The prosses is so satisfying 😍 and i like the result😍

I started throwing pottery a few months ago and threw my first closed form one piece jars and lids because of your videos! Thank you so much for creating such inspirational, soothing and beautiful videos.
Thank you Kim🥰 I’m so glad you made “ONE PIECE” because of my video!. It worth going through all editing works which is very time consuming for me😅. You recharge my posting energy now❤️
I am so happy you came up in my watch profile. Subscribed before you were half done. Thank you so much!
Thank you Sally😊 I’m glad you subscribed! Thank you again.
Those are so beautiful. I really like making closed form jars its a real challenge
Thank you for your comment Sharon😊. Yes, closed form is a challenge, but once you get used to you will find new path to approach to “Throwing “. It’s really awesome.
You have been reading my mind! I want to make lidded jars next. I have a BUNCH of tiny bud vases, waiting for the Cone 10 to fill up, that were inspired by you. Thanks!
Thank you for your comment Mayor😊 You made vases ! Great! This jar is very fun to throw. please try.
Beautiful as always ! Thank you.

These are beautiful pots. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you for your support 😊
Wow, I wish I was half as talented as you! Your techniques are amazing!
Thank you for your kind comment 🥰. I think I’m not particularly talented, but I have passion to create so I keep thinking “How can I make this?” I’m glad my technique is useful for someone.
so delicately beautiful!
Thank you Penny😊
Lovely techinique and final results. I am encouraged to explore!
Please Do😊. I’m looking forward to hearing your result!
love these! *goes out to try for herself straight away*
Thank you for your comment 😊. I’m sure you will have fun to make this!
if you would be interested to make a video about your glazes and glaze mixing and testing and how you have come up with your recipes, I would love to see that!
you have phenomenal glazes :)
Thank you for your suggestion Yotam😊. I can try it one day! By the way this glaze is not special, everybody has gloss white, so I thought viewers can try without glaze recipe. Please try this and let me know how you think.
thank you! I also referred to some other of your glazes from other videos :)
sorry if my comment was unclear. what I meant to say, regardless of this particular video, I'm just curious about your glazing processes in general. I find that I can learn a lot from potters talking about their own glazing practices, testing, mixing, their inspiration for their glazes and so on. I'm sure you too have an interesting take on that because I find your glazes beautiful, that's what I meant :)
Your talent is a jewel to behold. Thank you so much for sharing and inspiring
Thank you for your kind comment 🥰
That was a joy to watch, thank you
Thank you for watching 😊
@@AlchemyCeramic I made a few this evening, I'm looking forward to trimming them. 👍
Beautiful!,,
Thank you 🥰
wonderful instructing!
Thank you Jack😊
So lovely! I’d love to see a video going over the tools you use!
Thank you for your suggestion 😊 My tool video, it’s interesting idea🤔
I use a lots of recycled materials. I will try to make a video!
Wonderful explanations!!
Thank you for watching Nina😊
Really beautiful variation of your pots with the inset lid, absolutely mesmerising to watch you work. Recently I tried your spice shaker and I didn't have a chopstick so I used a wooden peg - I still have yet to trim these pots so will rewatch your video closely. Very cool to see your glazing process with the applicator and newspaper resist I have not seen that before and I will try this, it gives a more naturalistic feel than tape resist. :)
Hi Malcolm nice to hear from you 😊. Wooden Peg! Great alternative tool.
i love the design. especially with the sticks on top. beautiful glazing technique also 😊 i just found your channel and subscribed
Thank you to subscribe my channel Saskia😊. I’m Japanese potter based in London. I’m trying to reach all fellow potters in the world to share my passion to create own kind of ceramic.
Fantastic. I have created these jars
, sorry , maybe 4. Thank you. Greetings from Indianapolis Indiana
Thank you for watching 😊
❤
🥰
Again you have designed and created a beautiful, simple, lovely pot that would be an addition to anyone’s home. I love this whole process and look forward to trying it. Is your work available for sale anywhere other than the Japanese restaurant in London? Thank you so much for sharing your talents so that other makers benefit from watching. You are an excellent teacher.
Hi Revdcon😊. Thank you for your kind comment!.You always encourage me. My work is only available in London at the moment 🥲. I planned to set up the online shop but I still can’t keep enough stock for London so I haven’t opened it yet. That will be my next step 😁
@@AlchemyCeramic I am patient when it comes to beautiful things! I trust you will have a great , successful online presence one day.
Wow it is amazing.Just want to ask you, how long you left the jar to get dry before cutting the lid?
Thank you for your comment Padmini😊. My studio is dry and warm so 16h is good time to trim. It changes depending on the seasons. But all potter’s studio conditions are different.
I’m in London, if you are in sunny California it is shorter.
The clay we use are different.
The best way to judge the timing is to check with the pot. When I hold the pot the surface is dry but still the color hasn’t changed are good signs.
To manipulate the cutting edges the pot needs to be still soft enough.
The bottom is wetter than top normally so judging point is the lid catcher.
If I focused the bottom condition the lid catcher is too dry to trim.
One day I make a video focusing the drying process.
Thank you so much❤.. Will wait for the video.
Thank you for your comment Nasta😊. I’m so pleased to hear from Belarus!
Your question, the answer is 100% “Yes”.
I’m self-taught potter.
There are many different ways to make pots. So watch how people make, then try by yourself many many times.
In old days in Japan, The Masters never taught apprentices.
All apprentices just watched how masters make pots then tried by themselves.
Now we are in more friendly environment. There are many information for us. Please use my videos as much as possible to get some good parts. Also try other potters, as my way is just one of them.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you again!
@@AlchemyCeramic Спасибо , я так и делаю - смотрю и пробую.
how do you get your clay to be this color?
eh, you buy it? One kind is called oaxaca or something similar. There are other kinds.
Thank you for your question 😊. The clay is ready made black clay. Most of the clay suppliers have black clay so please ask your local supplier.
I have been trhowing with black clay exclusively now for almost a year. I find it very easy and pleasant to work with.
I use Nigra 2002. If you find the results interesting, you should definitely try it out.
De quelle nationalité êtes-vous ?
Thank you for your question Franco😊 I’m Japanese 🇯🇵. I live in U.K long time based in London.🇬🇧
2:59 この字幕はちょっと違います。「drugged」を書いた、日本語「薬物投与される」と言う意味をします。「引っ張られる」意味の「dragged」を書くつもりだったらしいです。
Thank you for finding a mistake 😅. I checked 3 times, still I missed it.
I’m glad you could understand what I wanted to say. I hope other people do the same.
One of my biggest frustrations when learning a second language has been peoples’ reluctance to offer corrections and constructive criticism. I imagine they were afraid of offending me or being construed as insensitive but I really just wanted to learn!
Also, I feared the possibility of a CZcams censor bot recognizing a keyword like that in the subtitle and subjecting you to age restriction or demonetization.
The Clay lady makes the Lids first. Then the Form.
Congratulations! now you know two different approaches 😊. There are many different ways to make a pot. Please try all you can find and then filter these. What is left becomes your technique. This is great about CZcams. Free Learning Platform. Happy creating!
