DCeased is a six-issue comic book miniseries published by DC Comics from May to October 2019. It was created by writer Tom Taylor and the artistic team including penciler Trevor Hairsine and inker Stefano Guadiano. The story takes place in an alternative Earth, where a corrupted version of the Anti-Life Equation has infected most of Earth's inhabitants with a zombie-like virus. Lois Lane acts as the series' narrator, detailing how the events took place over the course of a few weeks.

Batman doesn’t think Green Arrow is a threat because he’s counting on Green Arrow to execute the plan if he can’t. I think there’s a standing history between the two in this regard.

I think it’s more that batman DIDN’T create a plan for green arrow rather than COULDN’T. He’s basically a powerless dude who takes his archery merit badge too seriously

(Also yup, for the entire series I was the first one to think ''Why Cyborg continues as normal? I understand if the body is dead but the machine continues, but he should understand he was a carrier way long before, also they should have to use the Lasso trick a long time ago on the zombies, those were dumb plot armor points. XD)

He's as formidable as the Bat in terms of combat and he has his own hefty fortune so believe me when I tell you that if GA wanted to go full Ronin on the whole planet with guns and blades and satellite missiles... He is capable of doing that.

I always thought of Superman’s solar absorption as a passive attribute to his physiology. Like he can absorb the solar radiation already being emitted by the sun, but not actively take that radiation from the sun, if that makes sense.
But I guess it’s a more terrifying concept that an astronomically powerful zombie may be flying around the galaxy devouring stars.

2. I'm mad they didnt immediately attack Zombie Supermen & gave him time to think.
I would have been a lantern in that crowd like "A thinking zombie?! KILL KILL KILL!"
To be fair, that's basically what Wonder Woman did and she got blitzed. But yeah, Supes was using his head a little too much for a 'mindless' zombie. Then again, maybe that's why they included the bit with WW speaking.
Just thinking out loud, couldn't one of them have built a construct around his head and decapitated him while he was thinking, better than blitzing him

Keep in mind Superman is able to process things 10,000 times faster than a human or other things so a thinking super man zombie is not that far fetched

A smarter way for Aquaman to find the island would be him saying
"Yeah, I can't find the island, but I can find the black hole in the sea where it is. If you suddenly lose a finger, you are going to know where it should have been."
That's not how the island works. There is no "black hole" the island does not exist on the same "plane/dimension" as Earth. It simply just isnt there. To anyone it's just open sea. The reason the "dimensional" barrier broke was bcz Superman, Wonder Woman & Mera added mass from our Earth to the island pushing it into our "dimension" so to speak.

I guess it depends on whether the island becomes part of the normal world , or just everyone can get through this barrier

It doesnt work like that, there is no ''black hole'' because Themyscira is effectively in a pocket dimension created by the gods to make sure no-one can get there unless they already know its there. So by adding ''normal'' land to it they broke this protection and Themyscira is now basically a normal island. Still a good idea though
This story was amazing from start to finish. Jon telling Damien that he would make a great Batman almost brought tears to my eyes.

Now I see Desaad was immune to diseases and he did not get "infected" while Darkseid did. That probably means he cannot be afflicted via contagion. Seeing the equation itself he will probably be turned too.

Yeah, No. It wouldn't. His heart is a motherbox. If he couldn't literally pull himself back together after the fact, there should still be a backup or copy of his mind or, dare I say, his very soul logged within the motherbox itself.
But for visual effect, assuming the sequel, I'll bet my Christmas pay that it's his head that survived. Because... As I said... visual effect.

DC really has a thing with making her a lantern in these alternate world stories.
Head cannon: Superman flying into the sun destroyed the both of them because his dead cells couldnt absorb the power, and without the sun we all know supermans just a dude. so nows hes just floating in space half burnt to a crips with no sun.
And cyborgs corpse is just sitting on earth with the cure.
It not like he needs it it’s just a charger his been to solar system without suns and is still as strong as with one

Carol Danvers can also go into the sun and suck up enough energy to go Binary as well as absorb kryptonite radiation to fry Supes arse. Like Wonder Woman she also has no problem killing ex-friends. So Marvel solves DC problem ;P By the way where was Supergirl and Powergirl in all this?

Actually Wonder Woman beat Superman but the story ignored it. She ran him through with a kryptonite blade to the heart. He's dead. It was already explained that the DCeased are not zombies so still can be killed the normal way so for me Wonder Woman ended Superman and therefore she didn't die and therefore the rest of the story is meaningless. The Lantern Corp could probably scoop up all of the Atlantean infected and dump them in space and don't get me started about how antilife Wonder Woman was able to get loose from the lasso of Truth and get behind Cyborg when he's standing right in front of her!!! But hey comics!

What happens to Superman now? Well... the way I see it, Green Lanterns have three options.
1. Keep the quarantine, possibly move a red sun to earth’s solar system
2. Bind somebody with Ion and send them to atomize Superman
3. Airdrop Doomsday and see what happens. Even if Doomsday gets infected... I mean, that wouldn’t change much about him. And it’s entirely possible that Doomsday wouldn’t be infected considering his nature.
Will Depressed can’t kill Doomsday the same way twice.

It almost feels like this story is part of the negative multiverse in a sense that normally bad things are always bound to happen regardless of who the hero is.
Is it just me or has this whole thing kinda played out like an alternate Blackest Night?
1. The Anti-Life virus is a hive mind wanting to spread death, like the Black Lanterns being ordered by Necron
2. The Black Racer made the alteration to the Anti-Life Equation, and Necron is one step above him in the pecking order I think.
3. The Entity has been stated to be a counter to the Anti-Life Equation, and if Cyborg is 100% dead, the Entity is the only way to undo this now, and it may be nessecary to find a true cure due to Anti-Life Superman.
4. The Anti-Life Hive mind is like "All roads lead to Death" and The Black Racer was all like "Even a God will serve Death now" when Darkseid got infected.
In retrospect, I wouldn't be surprised if this was all a plan of Necron, instead of using Black Lantern Rings, and alert the other Lantern Corps, make a virus to spread death that you can control like a Black Lantern.
That ain't to far fetched honestly.
Wow...I love how they left this open ended, it would interesting to see what they do after this if they choose to pick it back up. It really didn’t feel like was a definitive end.
Okay the story was absolutely amazing, but can we all appreciate how fccking cool these character designs are??

Wow, this line has had some of the deepest moments I’ve ever seen in comics. Batman having to kill Nightwing, Alfred having to put down his pseudo-son (Bruce), Damian taking up the Batman mantle but still not owning it out of respect for his father, Jonathan Kent willing to sacrifice himself to stop superman and the list keeps going

Having his arm cut off by a kryptonite sword should've caused him to fucking drop from the sky like a fucking stone. Kryptonite disables/dampens superman's powers with mere presence. Having it enter is body is outright fucking lethal.
@@spacehitler4537 you forget. According to Mr. Terrific, who was the only living person among those who are the most intelligent on earth who actually tested the virus. Among the things he said, “No reaction to pain” was one of them. So while he would definitely be affected by the kryptonite in the sword, it wouldn’t be an obvious change, as he’d keep charging as though it did nothing to him.

I LOVE that ending bit of Wonder Woman being compelled to speak. Was exactly the additional depth I needed to make more sense of the threat. A sequel for this is almost certain, or at least I hope it is. So much potential here.

There’s one thing I noticed that everyone else seems to be forgetting. When wonder woman says death is inevitable and that it’s the truth there is a look of sadness of her face.
There's never a Daximite around when you need one.
Holy hell I just watched all of these in a row and damn this story looks SICK!!! I hope a follow up happens maybe next year for a follow up to Halloween. If they deem it appropriate and Taylor is back!
I like when cyborg was looking up at the ark how wonder woman was slipping off the lasso as she was sneaking up menacing behind him. The art sold the hell out of that panel.

Dceased couldn’t be a marvel zombies clone. If the characters had even a fraction of humanity left after infection Supes would’ve helped.
One of the things that made Marvel Zombies so good was that the decay of the heroes wasn't just on the outside. They were conscious of everything they did compelled by hunger beyond control. DCeased went the opposite direction where they are taken over essentially by another sentience that by nature kills and destroys. Still a great story though.
@@williambrown4138 They weren't taken over by another sentience but an ideology. Literally the Anti Life equation corrupted by death. Their whole purpose was just to spread death in one way or another.
@@acronyx991 If it was Wonder Woman just under an ideology, she wouldn't possess the knowledge she knows (as if she was there when it happened). Cyborg also pointed out hes talking directly to the virus.
@@williambrown4138 as I recall from the first issue this virus was made when darkseid tried to combine the Anti Life with death. So death itself is basically talking through wonder woman. Think of it like a hive mind but now all it is is death. Primarily the whole thing is a version of the anti life that's been corrupted by death, however the entity of death isn't possessing anyone. Purely they live (or die) just to spread death and the anti life.

Ok, I'm gonna be honest, I had low expectations with DCeased all because it's a zombie apocalypse story which I'm not a huge fan of, but damn this story is amazing.

I just realized, this would be a cool story to pave the way to the second generation of superheroes. Think about it: Damien Wayne Batman, Jonathan Kent Superman, wonder girl, Dinah Lance green lantern, Wally West Flash, Mera Aquawoman, green arrow; you just got your new justice league of earth 2.
Stories like this and writers like Tom Taylor are why DC characters continue to thrive. The "ending" to DCeased is absolute genius. There's *no way* this isn't getting more in the future.
I agree with you because I didn't expect it to be this good either but this is probably one of the best DC stories of the last 10 years...definitely needs the DC animated treatment

I love Dinah as a GL. Something ive noticed is most Lanterns are normal people without the ring so we dont get to see many instances of people using the constructs to boost their own powers. I love that idea, gimme more
This is my favorite version of damian and i hope as he grows up in comics he will turn out similar to this. Where he still acts like his same old im the spawn of wayne self. But is actuslly really nice and is debatably more connected to society and people then bruce ever was.

great series....DC made the right move by writing from the "what if?" mode. It opens doors to story writing while maintaining relative continuity. One of marvel's greatest innovations in comic book storytelling. As far as rip offs go, dceased can be forgiven its sin.

That's a rough couple weeks/months right there
IMO, the story line was amazing until this issue. This issue felt rushed, and it shows. Wonder Woman creates the ultimate weapon for eliminating infected Superman, the biggest threat standing before them, and she just cuts his arm off? Common... Cyborg, knowing he’s one of the few smartest people still alive, decides to stay behind after everyone’s gone in order to confront infected Wonder Woman, and then leaves himself wide open when he finds out he’s the cure to the equation? And finally, the Arcs find Earth 2, but Superman is still stuck in the sun, absorbing all the energy from it. He can literally snap at any moment and end everything and anything.
DCeased deserves to be continued, not ended with issue 6.

In my opinion this just feels like they did not know it was going to be this good and they changed it all up in the last issue in order to leave room for a continuation
That Earth 2 is not in the same solar system. So it has it's own star to keep that planet heated. Superman doesn't really pose a threat to them until after he absorbs everything
Would like to think that all of that energy flushed the disease out of his system...
At least he finished the story this time he usually just ends the video in the middle.

Now i know it was a short series and couldn’t do a big story but when ivy said “the green will protect use.” I for sure thought swamp thing and the other forces of the life cycle even the rot would step in for something.
Geoff Johns did a good Aquaman also in my opinion, but Abnett's run is my favorite in recent years.
