Riccar Supralite Cordless Vacuum R10CV Review - Wow!

  • The Riccar Supralite R10Cv may be costly but there are certainly a lot of things to like about it. It has the most powerful cordless vacuum I know of, it has the best battery life, and its carpet performance might be the best in the business. It's not all good news with the Riccar Supralite cordless but I think it may be worth the cost, especially if you have a lot of carpets in your home.

I’ve had this vacuum for about 1 1/2 years. Previously owned the corded version that I had for 12 years. That vacuum still works perfectly, I passed it along to family when I got this new one. First, I paid just less than $400. I knew value/quality from previous model. This vacuum is a dream. It quiet works so well and the weight and size allows you to use it ways you just wouldn’t. Example stairs; not only is it light enough but the size fits a stair plus it’s so light you can pick up and do the sides. I don’t have to charge it often and since it uses large sealed bags there is no mess or smell. I love this thing.

In the UK this is sold as the Truvox Valet battery upright, and is aimed at commercial users. We use one where I work, and the vacuum has spent longer out of order than actually working. Hard floors wear out the small wheels on the front of the soleplate , and once they wear down they simply snap off altogether and then the soleplate drags over the hard floors and this in turn wears down the soleplate and brushroll very rapidly. These are great when the bag is empty, but once it starts filling, it makes the vacuum much heavier to lift, depending on the sort of dirt being sucked up, you simply cannot fill the large bags to capacity as the machine loses too much airflow , and becomes heavy to push round. Parts are expensive and the rate the soleplate wheels keep wearing down, we use a soleplate every few months - it gets expensive on replacement parts.
Also, the battery is not fade free, and after about 30 minutes of use, the motor gradually starts slowing down, you can hear it, and it loses power.
We have also found the handle is creaky, squeeky and has a sloppy fit into the bag housing, giving a feeling of a really cheap and nasty machine - and cheap it certainly was not, as the UK version of this machine (made by Tacony, and sold through their UK arm, Truvox), comes in at over £400.
Having used one of these for 2 years I simply cannot really recommend them for extensive hard floor use unless you use them on mainly short pile carpet, where they dont do too badly. Although they are sold in the UK as a commercial machine, they simply are not built robustly enough to do commercial vacuuming, and we are forever having to wait around for new soleplates for ours, depending then on our Numatic Henry, which is a quarter of the price of a R10CV.

Thanks for the review, I had never heard of Riccar before but when I saw this, I knew I had to buy it! Lightweight, cordless, high power, and most importantly, bagged so I don’t have to deal with a filthy dustbin and filter maintenance! I have been occasionally watching vacuum reviews for a couple years just so I would know what to look for when my despised current bagless upright finally died. After seeing this, I’m not waiting, I’m replacing it right away!

I am a Riccar dealer and agree this unit is impressively powerful and hands down the most durable cordless vacuum on the market. Interestingly, Riccar has made this same exact model in a corded version (R10S) that we have seen last customers in excess of 10 years with very few failures so we KNOW this corldess R10CV will give our customers a very reliable life. The battery is rated for 500 hours. Yes 500! That's almost 10 years if you vacuum 1 hour a week. My customers LOVE this vacuum! We have them priced very competitively with Dyson cordless so don't be scared away by the MSRP.

Hey, wanted to thank you for these videos. I work at a store that sells vacuum cleaners as a decent chunk of their business. Even though I don't make commission, your videos have helped tremendously in keeping my recommendations accurate and concise.
Since I started watching a bunch of your videos, everyone I have helped decide what to buy has been much more happy with their decision, and didn't have to spend a very long time thinking about it to feel like that had all the information they needed.
And for those who need to convince their spouse that it's worth spending $600 for something like a Dyson v11 over a $100 Bissel, I always recommend your channel. So far it's worked every time!

I have had this vacuum for about a year now and recommend it highly. Had the exact model that was 13 years old and still going strong. (Son was thrilled to receive the hand me down). The new vacuum has all the great things of the old one but the grab and go cordless convenience on a full size machine. It seems like the battery lasts much longer than an hour. Never run out doing the whole house (3500 sq) plenty to spare. I’ve never had to stop and recharge. And it recharges quickly.

We own a corded Riccar and love it! The USA build quality is second to none which is why we are now looking at purchasing a second vacuum that is cordless for in-between sweeping jobs, etc.. We also own a cordless Hoover Lynx (10 years and still going) but looking for something with more power. After watching so many reviews on the stick vacuums like Dyson, Shark, etc.. I believe Riccar Supralite is superior minus the cons that were described in this review!

This is the best cleaning vacuum i have ever owned, and its cordless!!..After this video, I went in and made the deal...no regrets. I kept my dyson to do 1500 sq ft of hard floors and furniture, but i have 2000 sq ft of med/high pile carpet. Some times i do whole house with the Riccar, and it actually does great on tile and area rugs, its just that the dyson has a swivell head and is narrower , so it can get into tighter places. The Riccar is much more powereful and faster everywhere..Cordless is the way to go, it is so convenient!..fyi..I barely use half the bars when cleaning whole house, which takes about 20 to 25 minutes..❤❤❤❤❤

We bought one of these at Good Will for $75. The brush roll was seized, missing belt, and the plastic cover has the lens busted out, and the motor was grinding. Got everything fixed except for the cover. Can still return it but since I have lots of time into it along with replacing the motor bearings, I may keep it. Battery cost is crazy but it still works. Takes 12 - 18650 cells in series so I should be able to rebuild it when the time comes. Not near as powerful as our corded model but very convenient to use. Since Riccar/Simplicity Vacuums in this line are "Direct Air" design, all the dirt and debris goes through the Fan. Because of this design, there is no way you can have attachments. Wife loves this Vacuum over the others we own. Excellent review you have done.

Built in vacuums really are as good as it gets in my opinion. Well I guess certain brands might be better. However they make a literal boat load of noise, and there are loads of people that hate noise. All their power comes from a huge motor on the top of the unit, and everything is an attachment with them making them the best choice if you own a house. Only down side is the price, and installation. Getting the pipe and the outlets installed around the house for the hose is quite costly, unless you plan to do it all yourself. We used to have a built in vacuum system back in our old house, and it really was the cream of the crop.

    • @richardsvacuumcenter
      @richardsvacuumcenter Před 4 lety +4

I'm a Riccar dealer and their central vacuum (or wall mount system) is one of the best in our experience in sales, repair, and installation of of central vacuum systems. :) I would stay far away from Electrolux systems (or prolux). Hoover is owned by a Chinese company and the brand is quickly going down the tubes plus most dealers are canceling them as warranty service providers (as I will be this year). I'm not aware that Bissell makes a central vacuum but I could be wrong. Vacmaid appears to be only a set up for exclusively direct plug in at the unit so it's possibly under powered for use in a whole house piped system. Any other questions just ask!

Would you please post the full model number and manufacturing date info from the tag on the head bottom and the battery voltage and watt hours from the label on the battery? I went to an Ortek store locally yesterday to look at that model. They had it, but there are significant differences despite the same name. They also were discounting it significantly, so I'm guessing it's a slightly older version of the same vacuum. It's a shame they use the same name. Differences noted were wood brush tube with non-removable brushes and battery removal requires removal of the bag shell and then two more screws. My model is R10CV 2. Beyond those differences, it looked the same. Now I'm curious if the suction is same. I'm going to post to their site to see if the metal brush is an option and if motor/suction are the same. Hopefully they will respond. Thanks in advance for and information. Thank you for your channel and your work and dedication to it!

I bought one of these for my cleaning business and I will NEVER go back to cordless. I'm going to equip every account with one. In just a few months, it's saved me days worth of hours and lots of cord frustration. One suggestion: since it's a passthrough motor, definitely install a magnetic bumper on the front for screws and paper clips.

This is probably the only cordless vacuum that could, conceivably replace a full sized mains powered vacuum imho. I say conceivably because of the lack of attachments, you'd need something else to clean upholstery and stuff like that. Also that price is something holding it back as well.

Tacony had a change in management, since then they cut the fullerbrush and maytag lines. Rebranded the cheaper fullerbrush line simplicity, riccar is the standalone premium brand which screwed the simplicity dealers, they designed a new clean air riccar and are making it in China. Tacony cut its USA manufacturing by over half now using the empty space to store there Chinese models and had a nasty parting of ways with the former museum curator. Unfortunately and as a simplicity and powrflite owner my self I don't think I'd buy another machine from the company. In my own experience it took over a month to get a $5 plastic cord holder for my powrflite backpack... sorry for the rant, just sucks to see an otherwise promising American company take a nose dive.

I will never buy another vacuum without a HEPA bag.
I absolutely love my Kenmore 31140, and it’s not even a high end vacuum (in comparison to a Riccar)
I can vacuum ever inch of my house without ever getting into a sneezing fit
If I ever get a cordless vac, it MUST have a HEPA bag.
I will GLADLY pay more to avoid an allergy attack.
(I’ve had Sharks with washable HEPA filters. I sneeze within minutes of turning the vacuums on. You need a bagged vacuum to guarantee true HEPA filtration from start to finish)

This is a direct-air upright hence why you don't have the attachments and why the airflow is so good. As far as the price, other offerings by Simplicity (same company) and Oreck are also $799. Oreck has the advantage of interchangeable batteries.

I would love to find an upright vacuum similar to this one quality wise, but *that has a hose as well* so that attachments can be used. And unless I missed it, you didn't give the total weight of the vacuum, nor how the charging system works. It would be really nice to have a spare battery pack that could be plugged in easily when the 1st one goes out on you if you have a heavy amount of vacuuming to do. And one more thing: it appears to have just one level of filtration. No pre filter or post filter?

@@arevee9429 We Learned from the Past and Now Moving Towards the Future
While we have spent nearly 10 years as a fun tourist stop along Highway 44, we believe the time has come to close the iconic Vacuum Cleaner Museum located in St. James, Missouri.
With the various online and digital options available to vacuum enthusiasts, we were experiencing a decline in physical attendance at the museum. We have decided to redirect those resources to promote regional awareness of the Riccar and Simplicity brands being produced in the St. James facility.
With this move, the intent is to enhance local retailer support across the country, while providing broader access and a superior shopper experience for consumers seeking to purchase the Riccar and Simplicity brands from their local retailers. Given this announcement, the museum's last open day is Friday, April 26th, 2019.
Tacony Corporation and Tacony Manufacturing are committed to producing the same high-quality vacuums at our St. James facility as in previous years and look forward to seeing additional innovative products and community events flowing from our St. James location as we build our Riccar and Simplicity brands.
We are thankful to the local St. James and vacuum enthusiast community for the support you've provided us through the years, while we will miss being a roadside stop along Highway 44, we are excited about the next chapter of innovation and community involvement stemming from this facility and home floor care division.
