    For $1,600, I'm expecting this vacuum to pick my kids up from school, and run other various errands for me. It's the least it could do at this price point. Great review.

    I bought a house 10 years ago where the original owners/builders had passed away and the children left many household items as part of the sale. A Riccar N2000 was part of the lot. It looked old, but loved, like everything else. I was going to donate it but the central vac system (probably as old as house so 40 years+) died so I used it in a pinch. BEST VACUUM EVER. I have a Dyson V8 for quick daily pickups, and a new central vac system, but still after 10 years nothing beats that Riccar. I've joked that we bought the Riccar and got the house for free. Never had a single issue with it, that thing will suck the color right out of your carpet. It's a "buy it for life" vacuum, so while the price is high, when this one goes to be with the great vacuum in the sky, I'll be collecting cans to buy another.

    This review actually started me down the path that ended up with me getting one of these at our local shop, used and refurbished for *well* below the chest-clutching prices on the sticker. I was initially planning the Hoover Hushtone, but looking into the reviews and stats on this one, and handling one in person to get an appreciation for the build quality (including the guy at the shop pulling it literally open for me so I could see how it was built internally) I was sold. The build quality is extremely good, the performance is top-shelf, and parts are readily and *locally* available should something go wrong. I plan to have this one for 20+ years. That it did a good job cleaning my carpet goes without saying. We have a lot of sand and fine dust that blows and tracks around where I live, and my Dyson simply wasn't getting it out of the carpet, I could pull the fibers apart and still find a significant amount in the lower portions of our medium-pile. The Riccar was able to remove that. My goal, generally, is to reduce my wife and my allergy and sinus issues by better deep-cleaning. Have to see if it can do that in the long term!
    For anyone who hasn't played with one of these, think of the step between, say, a $100 generic from your local big box store, and a Dyson Animal 2. Then do that step AGAIN above the Dyson. For comparison, my last vacuum that this one replaced was a DC-26 that had served me for quite a few years, and I actually really like overall, and will still readily recommend for someone who can't afford the price of something in this kind of range. This is just *that* much of an increase beyond it.

  • @PowerSax911
    @PowerSax911 Před 5 lety +66

    Also, for those shocked at the price (it's a lot, like absurdly a lot), your local vacuum shop will give you a discount off the sticker price.
    Another benefit of going to a local shop is that they might have a used one at a steep discount. I got a Brilliance ($1000) for just $400 because it was used. A local store worth their salt will clean and fix up any issues before it heads to the floor for sale.
    Mine picked up a bunch of grit after having new carpets installed. This thing is amazing and agitates like none other which is where its cleaning ability really comes from. Would recommend a used one. Riccar is definitely not worth the sticker price but is worth every penny if you can get the price down to something reasonable.

      We quite often will sell the previous generation R4P which brand new about 6 years ago was $1499, we will clean it up for you replace the strips, filters and whatever else it needs for $299, we are clearing out the old style R40P now at significant discounts, that one doesn't feel quite as balanced as the one in the video but still easy to use nonetheless and has many of the same features

    Reason it deep cleaned carpet better than other 2-motor uprights, in addition to better brush roll design, is the brush roll motor doesn't just turn brush---it has a fan like an Oreck or Kirby. Only Tacony 2-motor uprights (so far) have this feature. The triple row of brush roll brushes combined with higher brush roll speed also mean each carpet sweep equals 2 to 4 sweeps with anything else. In other words, 30 minutes cleaning with the Riccar equals the brush action of 1 hour to two hours with any other company's dual motor. Big time savings.
    We also do our own testing, and S40's always pick up more dirt than we put down.

My other, more pressing question: are there separate internal channels for the cleaner head and the hose/wand, or does the debris picked up from the cleaner head travel through the hose/wand assembly on its way to the bag?

    My vac has a sealed system with a hepa bag and filter
    It also has 2 motors for suction rather than 1
    Also, does a vacuum agitate a carpet better on its lowest floor setting?
    I’ve always thought that the deeper the brush roll can dig, the cleaner the carpets will be
    I am paranoid however that I’m just cutting off air flow/reducing suction and making the vacuum less effective/efficient

    In this instance, a powerful vacuum with a very stiff bristled brushroll, have you ever looked at the debris in the bag to see if the vacuum is removing actual carpet bristles when it scores so high (135%)? Hard to imagine a vacuum scoring significantly more than 100% over and over, and convincing myself it just keeps finding more and more dirt.

    A note on the Kenmore… the two motors is one dedicated for suction and airflow with the second motor running the brush bar.
    The only difference between the 31140 and 31150 are the height settings, brush bar design, dirt sensor, and belt vs beltless/direct drive.
    There are not two suction motors on the Kenmore like there is on the Riccar

      Another youtuber found that the Kenmore had excellent suction at the cleaner head... but didn't do great on low pile carpets at all... In fact he said it was horrible and he would only recommend it for medium to higher pile.... I wonder why though? A vacuum with that much suction at the head should clean it all.... I don't get it... that's the second time I've heard that watching reviews about the Kenmore..

We have Electrolux and Aerus machines in our family that range from twenty to seventy years in age and Kirby machines that range from fifteen to sixty years in age. I also have a new Riccar.

    The above 100% pickup is likely due to dust and carpet fibers that the brush roll beats out. Some sand is left but not much.

    Great review! I have to say though, your airflow numbers seem low from what I've seen online. I have an older simplicity tandem vacuum that looks virtually identical to this and found it difficult to seal to my airflow box due to the rug plate design, but once I got it sealed, I measured just barely shy of 100cfm with both motors on, and 76 cfm in hard floor mode.

    • @Blackheartvacs
      @Blackheartvacs Před 5 lety

      the plate is somewhat difficult to get a good seal on it seems. I did get about 99 cfm with the brushroll on and like 80 with it off.

    Unlike my new Riccar Radiance Premium R40P.2 @ $1600, which tips over at times when using hose and tools, my older Kirby G4 in real world use is superior in all applications compared to my top of the line Riccar. The Riccar hose and attachments leak air, the cheap plastic fittings don’t fit tightly throughout, and I end up using my Kirby to clean up all the missed dirt my new Riccar Radiance Premium R40P leaves behind especially with hose and attachments. You can pick up an older fully refurbished G4 or newer Kirby, use Kirbys new HEPA bags and save $$ and get superior cleaning. Riccar is “assembled” in the USA with cheap imported parts that do not fit well and frankly fall apart not to mention those that are defective from day one. The “new Riccar design” is using common parts from other lines they assemble under different names and a color change. I wanted to try a lighter weight vacuum and fell for the all the glitzy bell and whistle sensors and two motor scam. If you want a dust free, decade lasting, superior quality and performance with much lower cost of ownership vacuum cleaner, go with Kirby using their HEPA bags.

    The Kenmore doesn't actually have 2 suction motors like the Riccar. I'm pretty sure Kenmore is counting the motor inside of the brushroll as the 2nd motor. You may want to look into this.

    • @Egress.
      @Egress. Před 5 lety

      I believe it does have 2 suction motors

    • @jTempVids
      @jTempVids Před 5 lety

      @@Egress. I can't find anything that says it actually has 2 different suction motors. I'm still pretty sure they are including the brushroll motor as the second motor. All I can find is Kenmore saying it has a "beltless 3D inducer motor with a direct-drive brushroll motor. czcams.com/video/bpMfVNS85Og/video.html
      Kenmore's advertising and specifications are very confusing.
      They say things like: "3D Inducer Motor combines the power of three motors that gives you 20% more air power than a conventional upright vacuum while never losing suction."
      I've read multiple websites and reviews. Most are just guessing. They all vary saying the vacuum has 1, 2, or 3 motors.
      czcams.com/video/bpMfVNS85Og/video.html
      www.kenmore.com/products/kenmore-elite-31150-bagged-upright-vacuum-cleaner-silver/
      www.amazon.com/Kenmore-Allergy-Friendly-Beltless-Upright/dp/B075DZY7FR
      I may be wrong, but it would require Kenmore to chime in or someone to take one apart and see what it's using for suction.

    • @friendlyone2706
      @friendlyone2706 Před 5 lety

      @@Egress. "Suction" motor means deliberately increases air flow. The Kenmore turns the brush; it does not have a fan system attached as does the S40.

    This is a great alternative to a Kirby if you want versatility for tools, though my Kirby is still running. But i also have to keep it upstairs because it is so heavy. So. I bought a Dyson Canister vacuum for the main floor because ot is mostly hardwood and a few area rugs. My reconditioned Kirby and my Dyson together cost as much as that single vacuum, so no thanks on that.

      I used one of these for my cleaning business and they suck at cleaning floors! It is great for surface cleaning but not good for deep cleaning. They have a model called the auto x boost which is supposed to put the brush further down but the dealer I went to never told me it did that. Super disappointed in it won’t ever buy one. They’re sturdy yes, but cleaning and filtration sucked. No shut off switch and auto height adjustment isn’t good.
