    Great info. I understand the deep heat projector provides Infrared A and B which is not provided by the other lights...but I have also heard they dehydrate the animal. Also since the leo is in the hide most of the day, it seems like a waste to have the bulb on...wish there was a motion detector...lol. Depending on how your tank is set up, you do not need a screen lid either, which means the lights could be suspended lower, which is what I did, to save on electricity by using less wattage.

I have a 75 watt heat lamp but for the arcadia shade dweller, I just wanted to make sure the pro t5 7% would still work for that size? I’m awful with things like that and google wasn’t helpful lol

I know this is hard to predict, but I wonder if surface temperatures will be correct if the distance to the basking spot (with black rock slate) will be 30 cm (12´´). I read this is the minimum distance from the uvb for geckos with hypopigmentation, like mine are. The enclosures will be bioactve. Any thoughts?

    There is a question at the end of this comment, but some background: I have a female Leo that I rescued about 9 months ago. She's my first reptile. Originally, she was to be my oldest child's. However, circumstances have changed, and through no fault of my daughter's, the gecko is now mine. She was full grown when we got her, but her tail was very short (only about half of an inch long). I assume that the previous owner mistreated her and she dropped her tail, so the owner didn't want her anymore. Anyway, she's around 5 inches from the tip of her nose to where her tail meets her body, and her tail is about 3 inches long now, making her total length about 8 inches. I have been keeping her in a 20g high tank that I already had, with repticarpet and a few artificial hides, ceramic heat lamp, a cheap light, and recently a 10% UVB bulb. She's eating well, her tail is fattening up, and no signs of parasites. I think she's healthy enough for a bioactive enclosure now.
    So, I did days of research, days more shopping, and decided that with my budget and space, a ZooMed 25g (30"x12"x15") front opener was the best decision. I got that, the Arcadia 7% Shade dweller UVB, and a DHP with clamp light at PetSmart. Then, I went home and ordered the BioDude's leopard gecko 20g bioactive kit, a thermostat, and some CUC. I plan to put many hides, plants, and other decorations in, literally as many as I can fit while still giving her room to move around. I'll also make changes to the equipment as needed to suit her. I also take her out daily for enrichment, and she seems to enjoy running around on the counter or table, and I let her watch my fish tanks with me.
    Ok, finally, the question: Given that she's pretty small, do you feel that this enclosure could meet her needs for the rest of her life? Eventually, I would like a 40g enclosure for her, but I just couldn't stand her current setup any longer, and I'm sure she's ready for a change too. Bigger just wasn't in the budget right now, though, especially because I'd have to buy or build a new stand for it if it was any bigger.
    Also, I have another question: As I said, I plan to use a DHP for daytime heat. I'll also have the Glow and Grow light that comes with the kit I ordered from BioDude, as well as the UVB light. Do you think that will mimic the sun accurately enough?

    I think the zoo med blue bulbs are okay to use. I’m pretty sure they don’t let off a blue light I just think the glass is blue. It’s says on the box it’s purpose is to mimic daylight and the light it lets out is a white/yellow light.

      So they aren’t full nocturnals they are crepuscular meaning they are active at the dawn and dusk hours that’s why they are very active when lights are about to go out and when they do. No he will be fine. Night time drops in temps are perfectly fine. However if your house is incredibly cold like below 60f you can use a deep heat projector at night time

    Great info,. i like the idea about the thermostat, i usually put on the basking rock. i rent a room and sometimes i open my big windows and sometimes i do not depending on the weather. do you think putting on the size like you do will affect those changes????

      Yes putting it on the side might affect those changes. As always you may have to play around with it

      As long as you get the right temps with the wattage then it’s good. That’s why wattage matters. Just to get the right temps

    • @ChiefSweetsUniverse
      @ChiefSweetsUniverse  Před 5 měsíci +2

      If you provide rocks and wood it will keep the heat absorbed and will be released throughout the night. As long as temps don’t get below 60f they are totally fine. In the wild they experience winter temps right now is 41f. For almost 20 years keeping reptiles I havnet used heat at night except for two enclosures of reptiles that like extreme hot temps. All animals perfectly fine.
