This is why I want to work in the veterinary field as a nurse. Through hours spent volunteering, I have probably seen over 100 euthanasias of cats and dogs. Clinically, euthanasia for animals is literally an overdose of a general anaesthetic. So if you've ever been under a general anaesthetic for a surgery, you'll most likely know that it's a very quick and peaceful way to 'fall asleep'. The animals don't feel their heart stopping or their lungs failing. They literally just fall asleep then die. When it comes to euthanasia in the vet clinic, where the owner(s) involved, what we usually do is take the animal out the back and put a cannula (needle which gives easy access to a vein) in one of their legs. Often if there are many people who want to say goodbye to their beloved pet, we will place the cannula in one of their hind legs so that we aren't in the way of the face of the animal as they drift off, meaning the owner(s) can be the last thing the animal sees instead. The only reason we take them out the back to put the cannula in is that because it IS a needle, it does cause a LITTLE bit of pain (less pain than a vaccination) and sometimes the animal may whimper a little or need to be restrained. We figure the owner(s) are feeling bad enough as it is, so we want them to feel as little guilt as possible for the peace they're bringing to their pet. The veterinarian and vet nurse will then take the animal back into the consult room where the owner(s) are and, depending on the size of the animal (or the number of people saying goodbye), we place them on a towel either on the table or the floor. The owner(s) get the time they need to comfort their pet and say goodbye, then (with their permission) whilst they continue to stroke/hug/speak to their pet, we (painlessly) deliver the overdose of general anaesthetic and within a few seconds they fall asleep.
I TRULY do not understand why humans are not given this same compassionate choice to end their suffering! I am 29 years old and while I doubt it will become common in my lifetime, I do hope for a future where human euthanasia is a more 'normal' thing and something that those suffering to have to fight so much to be granted that right of an end to their suffering...

@@a.7889-v8f Animals typically don't get a choice. Nevertheless good care dictates there are times where euthanasia is humane.
I've sat with many people who have peacefully passed due to old age and none of them ever considered ending their lives earlier. I have also cared for some truly horrific illnesses where the individual begged for that choice. 40 years of direct care has informed me supporting that final decision is also humane.

LGBTQ groups in Israel, where Ahmad Abu Marhia was seeking asylum, say he had received threats because he was gay.
Video of the murder scene in Hebron has spread widely on social media raising speculation about the motive, but police say nothing is confirmed.
It is unclear for now how Mr Abu Marhia ended up in the city.
LGBTQ groups say he had spent two years in Israel waiting on an asylum claim to flee abroad after receiving death threats from within his community.
Israeli media quote friends of the victim as saying he was kidnapped to the West Bank.
His family, however, said he regularly visited Hebron to see them and to work. They described the claims about the motive as rumour.
Homosexuality is rejected within the most socially and religiously conservative parts of both Palestinian and Israeli societies but gay people in Israel can freely lead their lives. The reports suggest he had fled his home on a humanitarian permit while hoping to go to Canada.

Morphine makes me sick and we've found there's no relief from the terrible migraine it brings on or the constant vomiting. I don't want my final hours/days/weeks to be in that kind of suffering nor do I want to traumatize my family having to see me die in such misery. The best part of it is that it's not our judgements that count with God. Decisions made under severe physical & emotional stress can not be understood by those not in that situation. Medicine prolongs life but when it can do no more then choosing a peaceful exit from suffering is an individual choice. God is blamed for so many things but often it is mankind's perception that is the issue. Very few terminal illnesses have a peaceful end. Just love & support those in that situation.

I find this very gripping and comforting. Life can be very cruel, and perhaps death can be very peaceful. If one is suffering so terribly and perpetually, then one should be able to rest with dignity.
I'm a 33 year old man and I have suffered physical dysfunctions in my life. My problems have prevented me from having a normal social life and prevented me from having any romance in my life. At the worst of times there is no joy in my life, no quality of life at all.
I am exploring medical treatments to help me improve my quality of life right now, but if such treatments fail me, I would be very much interested in terminating my life with dignity. Lately I have been accepting the possibility that life just isn't for me, life is not for everyone.
As I embrace the thoughts of a premature departure from this world I have started looking at death as a transition to peace rather than something dark or scary.
Anybody that wants to trade their life of eternal suffering for eternal peace in death, should be allowed to do so without harsh criticism.

@B G I don't know if this is helpful, but depending on your situation, if a person is able and willing to become a Canadian citizen, Canada is pretty liberal with their MAiD laws (medical assistance in dying.) For example, in 2024, Canada will allow any Canadian citizen diagnosed with mental health problems (I think,) to use it's MAiD laws and it's "free" or cheap, paid for by the tax payers there of course. There's also many other reasons that Canada allows it's citizens to use MAiD although I will say Many People are Against it and think it's "Evil" but, to me, I think it's definitely the opposite for those with a severe health problem or for those who are terminal. I also think those with a severe mental health disorder that they've dealt with for years, should be allowed to use these laws IF that's what they want and are of course Not* pushed into it. It's just my 2 cents.

This honestly makes me want to cry! My illnesses (and quality of life) have been declining for over 7 years now (I'm 29 and have been ill for more than a decade). Despite the fact that I don't technically have a 'terminal' illness, the fact is that the many specialists I see truly have no idea how to help me anymore - medicine has simply not advanced to that point yet! But because I live in Australia, where human euthanasia is COMPLETELY illegal and not even an option, at this point I am left battling through each day and wondering how much more pain I can deal with before I have to commit suicide (which will NOT be a peaceful death - especially for those who will live on after me!) I SO DESPERATELY want to be able to say goodbye to my friends and family, have a fun little gathering like this man had the night before he died and I want my Mum there holding my hand as I slowly and peacefully slip into a coma and die. Gosh, that would be so much easier on EVERYONE - not just myself! Unfortunately, if you are acutely suicidal and you let ANYONE know, you will end up in the emergency department before being temporarily locked up in the psychiatric ward against your will, where you are treated like an animal to be honest. That locked ward (which I've been in a few times due to being found whilst attempting suicide) is honestly the most hellish place I have EVER been!
Because in Australia it is difficult for the average person to access a gun, the next 'best chance' of me dying by suicide would be to put my neck across a train line so that the train would decapitate me. I've seen pictures of what that looks like and the thought of my mother having to identify the body of her daughter like that fills me with SO MUCH GUILT! Also I've read about the train drivers in our country who have been involved in fatalities and end up with PTSD 😔 If you're someone who works in emergency care, you would probably go to work expecting to see death. A train driver just wants to drive trains... Unfortunately, after countless years of research (and attempted hangings) I've come to the conclusion that this is unfortunately the only way I can choose to end my life, thus ending the pain and suffering I live with every day. I've come to that conclusion through research over the years into different methods of suicide (aside from assisted euthanasia). Statistically, after a shotgun to the head or cyanide poisoning, placing myself in front of an oncoming train is the next best 'chance' I have at dying.
Needless to say, I refuse to go ahead with this until I have written a letter to whoever that train driver may be, telling them to please not feel guilt but instead know that they were the ONLY way I could find peace and an end to my suffering! I plan to have the card that says I am an 'organ and tissue donor' with my Mum's number written on it placed on my back, in the hope that emergency services are able to salvage ANYTHING THEY CAN that could help someone else!
I also obviously want to declutter my belongings so I don't leave a large burden for my parents, plus write letters to many many other wonderful people in my life. Unfortunately, my ill health makes this a far from easy task... so most days I continue to 'live' are really just me 'surviving' these tortuous illnesses that continue to affect me more and more as time goes on... 😔

I understand people being wary, as there would be ways and people, who may use such an occasion to take advantage, so, if good checks/balances are put in place, perhaps it's time to allow people to make choices for themselves. The one thing that would be strange is having to make an appointment for such a thing!

Many who are in horrific pain can understand him. Oxycodone is the only medicine that helps a bit. That too is now being denied 🙅 n USA. How can one live a life of pain tolerance?

We are controlled so much by others in this world. In all aspects of our life. We can not leave this world without approval by some doctor or some law that we never agreed on in the first place .

The subject of euthanasia has stuck with me since school. I must say that since I have been a chronic pain patient after hurting my spine at 23 I have conflicting views. I've learned to deal with terrible awful frightening amounts of pain AND doctors and surgery staff that treat me like I'm an addict and not a patient. So when I hear *quality of life is gone* and *ooooh terrible pain* I think well.... Yeah that's been the last twenty years of my life. Three hours slowly standing and walking, 21 hours laying on a bed. FOR TWENTY YEARS NOW. Pain on its own is not a reason to declare your life as being no good.... I've experienced all the misery and fear of all that time alone on a bed. I speak from experience..... That's what makes it such a difficult question....... I have all the extra insight in the world now compared to being a 13 year old kid in that classroom but there's still no definite answer...... I don't suppose there ever will be....

How do you deal with all of that? I was bed ridden and I have several diseases... I am so scared of suffering at the end of life, I often want to end it now then go through more suffering. How can you deal with that?

We would not think of letting our loving animals suffer .we need to legalize it all this suffering and pain look at the nursing homes and caregivers themselves ruining their health keeping someone going who
    Wants to die
