I think he failed because she liked the violence, when he didn’t reciprocate with violence, she pushed more, failing to understand he didn’t have violence in him. That he wasn’t going to react the way she wanted. So she lost it and went too far. He never was going to fix her problems, someone with stronger understanding of psychosis was needed. You can’t fix anyone with love alone.

Earlier I saw an interesting video about Johnny and Amber. I heard that Amber does not want to leave Johnny alone, and intends to continue this whole nightmare. I can't find that video, so I'll leave my comment here. I would like to express my thoughts on how this situation could develop in the future. Many people in society, and even more so people like Amber, like to attack those people who seem to them absolutely harmless, safe. They boldly attack only when they believe that a person will not be able to fight back. Unfortunately, my life experience repeatedly teaches me exactly this. In my humble experience, the tactic of being kind, nice, quiet, humble, and private doesn't usually work. The kinder a person is, the stronger and more violently they attack him. In my personal opinion, people like Amber can only be stopped by the fear of the danger of getting a worthy and furious rebuff. It seems to me that if Johnny leads a bright, open, and even slightly (very slightly) scandalous lifestyle, exudes confidence, demonstrates happiness in his personal life, this will somewhat alert and scare away those who still want to harm him. He must radiate happiness, self-confidence, the power, to demonstrate that his life is full of pleasure and he does not care what they say about him. To show everyone that he is resolute and always ready to defend himself from attack. It seems to me that this will discourage the appetite of his detractors. I think that Amber is slowly starting to feel that she has deprived herself of something very valuable in life. She must be struggling with these heavy feelings. It is these ambivalent feelings that make her seek at least some kind of contact with Johnny, if only through an attack on him. She is like a naughty child at school who hits someone he attention about. A very dangerous and absolutely incorrigible character trait.
She can't live with Johnny (I think she can't live with anyone, and the fact that she has a child is worrying), but she doesn't want to leave him alone either. She must understand that Johnny's life has been going on as usual for a long time, developing. And in his new happy life, in his heart, there is no more room for her. I think in this case she will stop. Of course, she will be angry for a while, but she will be forced to calm down. She must realize that the relationship is over, that everything is in the past. Johnny has a new life, that had nothing to do with her. While he thinks about her, talks about her, while his heart is not occupied by someone else, Amber invisibly continues to be present in his life, continues to feed on his energy and vitality, as if she were a vampire. For a narcissist, the worst thing in life is to be left without attention. I think the best thing for Johnny is to stop giving Amber even one drop of his attention.
It seems to me that everyone should see Johnny active, energetic, strong, determined, confident in himself and his abilities, and absolutely happy. This will make his enemies unwilling to attack him. It will deprive them of the illusion that the evil they inflict on him will go unpunished. It is not so, and they must realize it.

Personally, I rarely evaluate anything in life as good or bad. Only in the most extreme, obvious cases. Almost any situation can be looked at from different angles. I can understand both Johnny's and Vanessa's feelings. I think that Johnny is a real romantic, an unstable, addicted man, he quickly gets bored with everything, he needs bright emotions. Therefore, it is difficult for him to build relationships with calm, stable women who cannot or do not want to rock his emotional state. He becomes bored in relationships, it begins to seem that life is bland and devoid of bright colors and emotions. Of course, these are just my subjective feelings and assumptions, which may not coincide with reality. I am simply expressing my vision of this situation. I think Johnny is struggling with these feelings and trying to find peace and stability. He tried to be a good husband and father. And I believe he was a good husband and father. He did not officially marry Vanessa. I think that in his case there was no malicious intent. He sincerely considered her his wife and treated her accordingly.
