I’ve been a professional photographer and photojournalist for 50 years. When I published my first photographic coffee-table book in 1994, I added a statement at the beginning of the book letting readers know that none of the photos were Photoshopped or manipulated in any way. Because the images were of celebrities, politicians, sports legends & corporate iconic figures, I wanted to make sure that my images reflected the moments in time they were taken during a 19-year period from 1994 to 1993 when I started working on the book. In reality, any cropping, burning or holding back on my black & white images could be considered manipulation at some level. But cropping my type of images were purposely done to either eliminate someone or something from a shot or bring the subject to greater prominence in the photo. Generative AI images can’t be copyrighted because we don’t actually do the physical or computer graphic work. Text based AI imagery rarely creates what you envision and you end up selecting the closest result. Worst, try creating hands and you get six fingers and a thumb more often than not. Groups of people have eyes straight out of the Twilight Zone.

It's easy to remove the badge from your image, but the tool is faulty. I uploaded a design without any AI, but Instagram mistakenly thought it had AI.
