- Paramount Pictures' Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has shattered expectations. Sonic's new movie features Knuckles and Tails, while Eggman returns to seek the Master Emerald. While The Sonic Movie 2 isn't perfect, it's a top tier video game adaptation. What makes it so good?
When Sonic The Hedgehog hit the big screen in 2020, fans didn't know how it would go. Sonic has a rocky past and video game movies are usually awful, so it was set up to be forgettable. However, the first Sonic movie was a surprise, and now the second movie is following that trend. Knuckles and Tails help make it stand out as a true Sonic adventure, so let's dive in to my Sonic Movie 2 review! There are no major spoilers here.

The one time a developer or in this case, studio director listened to the community and made adequate changes after the initial release fiasco it turns out good. Now with the sequel it shows how we can get good video game movies if they just listen to the fans. Other film directors and developers should take notes on this
They really do, completely agree.
Plus, Sonic's reputation is being repaired! Sega did a smart thing with these movies!

I swear the only game franchise that hasn’t been ruined by Hollywood and I’m loving it.
I disagree a little about the human characters. Sure the wedding stuff between the sister and her fiance overstayed its welcome, but I loved how Tom and Maddie had just as much screen time as the animated characters and played just as big a role, even in the climax. Additionally their relationship with sonic and co was very heartwarming. Even some of the side characters were hilarious.

Jeff Fowler really meant the importance of the characters themselves. Watching Sonic The Hedgehog 2, I found myself relating to Tails. And I truly enjoyed how Sonic and Tails bonded through the movie. This movie is a 8 out of 10.

The dancing scene was funny, but the line when Tails mentioned how he was bullied for his extra tail kind of hit me in the feels.
Honestly it's impressive that they made a good video game movie and actually listen to the fans. Glad that Sonic 2 movie is doing good 👍
And the only reason why it was good is because they weren’t lazy about it, or in other words just like you said listen to the fans.

The numbers from this past weekend already broke the previous film's record for video game adaptations.
First one did $57 million, this one did $71 million
I'm so grateful to everyone involved in the movie. It was because of them that we got this amazing film.
I’m more appreciative towards Tails and thankful Colleen O’Shaughnessy reprised her role as the Fox. Just a shout out to her as Colleen has voiced Tails for 8 years and she got to bring him to the big screen.

Just “okay” doesn’t even begin to describe how surprisingly good the movie turned out to be. It was amazing, had some funny lines, the action scenes were awesome, it was full of subtle references (which most adaptations fail at, especially the “subtle” part), and they NAILED the friendship between Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Robotnik was just as evil and pretentious with a bit of clinically insane as his game and cartoon counterparts. And…

Okay you scrolled for it. The introduction to G.U.N. was very clever instead of making it an in-world organization from the start, since it was founded as a response to Sonic. And with this came Shadow, and dear god am I hyped as hell for when that comes.
I really am curious if they’ll also add chao’s, cream, and amy(possibly rouge???) kiiinda like the sonic tv show
i think they are going to make it that G.U.N was actually formed many years ago, that would make it better actually

Thank you! When the Rotten Tomatoes score was at 56% and every critic was crying about the humans not on screen a lot, that made no sense as the name is “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” and if it has the protagonists name in the title then it’s gonna focus on the protagonist.

I wanna note that Sonic never actually beat Knuckles. In all their fights there was always something that disrupted them but in all Knuckles was the one closest to winning
It's like how in Sonic 3 Sonic and Knuckles don't have a proper fight until the end
I’d say Knuckles won the first one, but Sonic won the second. So, it’s sort of a draw in my books.

The death egg robot in the trailers (didn’t see the movie) set Eggman as a huge threat again and why Sonic has to save the day. The thing’s big as a mountain, probably uses a supernatural energy source, and has missiles and armaments out the wazoo, it’s like a walking fortress! Sonic can smash up vital parts fast enough, but any military would be forced to take drastic actions like nukes, and we all know how that works in movies.

Why does Sonic always have to stick out from the crowd. In the gaming industry he is a laughing stock but in the movie industry he is a savior for video game movies. Being a Sonic is super stressful😩
i hope frontiers will be good... sonic's been treated so badly since after unleashed, and i hope this new game makes him what he was always meant to be
@@peachybun-ana I think I heard that after the first movie, Sega actually begun to care about Sonic again! As they started Frontiers development after Forces, and were intending to release it soon...till the movie dropped and showed us he can still pull out a hit.
So they decided to actually take time with Frontiers instead of rushing it, of course I am not too sure if it's true.

honestly? i loved the wedding side plot. rachel was hilarious and i enjoyed her character so much! more characters i also enjoyed are knuckles, stone and (of course) dr eggman. what the did with the rings getting mixed up was so perfect. me and my mom loved it. amazing film, i’m so hyped for the third movie :)
maybe we’ll even get more canon characters in the third movie! like amy, rouge, and blaze!
That "What a woman" scene was hilarious!
I would've seen where people were coming from if Rachel did'nt develop at all from how she was in the first movie. But the thing is, she did like we still don't learn why she hates Tom but she's softer and even though she does'nt interact with Sonic or Tails I found it a geninuely good suprise that she seemed ok with taking on goverment men to rescue them, and her rage in this one is alot more justified too which made her a three dimensional charachter. Something that she reaaaaally needed in my eyes, Charachter development is not filler and more people need to understand that.

They could cut inbetween the plot story and the wedding story, back and forth

The movie was so worth it. Paramount did a really good job on being able to release it In a short amount of time. Egg Man or Dr. Robotnik seemed more like a villain. Knuckles and Tails both had a great appearance, Knuckles had a solid backstory and so did Tails. Sonic himself has truly learned a lot from his new family. I give the movie a 10/10 and 5 stars. The movie is worth it and I would go check it out if you haven’t all ready.
This movie was amazing tails is so adorable and likable great addition and knuckles is Great love this movie Sonic is always one of my favorite characters and Jim Carrey as eggman is iconic

This movie is basically perfect in every way in my opinion. I even enjoyed the human interactions. I kind of hope they are kind of nonexistent in the third one tho.

This is my favorite Video Game Movie Sequel ever!
With Sonic, Paramount and Sega doing outstanding work recently, video game movie franchises like Mortal Kombat and Mario are going to have huge expectations weighed on them. To be honest, I can't wait to see how this plays out and how each company tries to out do one another; lore and entertainment wise

Honestly, the gaming movie genere is gonna HAVE to step up their game now that the sonic movies were made. I’m thinking mortal combat will be good, and hoping Mario does well.

I really disagree with runtime. In my opinion the runtime was perfect. And am glad with the runtime
I respectfully disagree. However, if the wedding was short and we had more Sonic and Tails (just the duo) on screen to keep the same runtime, I would agree 100%.
I have s feeling the wedding scene took up most of the runtime.
It's like people WANT to stop watching the sonic film, I had to leave the cinema as soon as possible but that wasn't due to me hating the movie, it was because my family needed my help and I couldn't stay to watch the credits and post credit scene which really disappointed me.

@@luckybuckeye2283 I honestly enjoyed the wedding scene because 1. My cousin’s wedding is this June, so it’s nice 2 have a sequence in the movie 2 reflect that. 2. The wedding sequence did drag a little bit with the Rachel sequence, but I still found that part 2 be funny.
That was really cool! I'm glad that the producers outdone themselves in the new movie! And let's hope for more success for Sonic and his friends.

@@hashi. Yes, G.U.N. is heavily inspired by Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic 3/Knuckles is one of the main inspirations along with Sonic The Hedgehog 2.

Yeah Sonic has a lot of characters they can work with. But Shadow is probably the most popular character in the entire franchise next to Sonic, so if they make a 4th movie the hype will probably die down since they would’ve already introduced Super Sonic & Shadow. Plus Jim Carey might retire and quit Eggman and they already said they probably wouldn’t recast him. But of course I’m still hoping they make more

@@spezkko Tails is my personal favorite and his popularity is already a given since he’s the sidekick and he’s been around longer than any other active Sonic character (except Eggman). In some polls Shadow is ranked higher than Tails. Sega said Shadow was originally only supposed to in SA2 but he’s so popular they keep him active

I adore how they're going full-on "Michael Bay+DBZ" with it's heavy focus on action. You-know-who's surprise appearance particularly was DBZ as hell.
Nobody talks about it but that bit where a sleeping Tails snags the blanket but then covers Sonic with his tails is the CUTEST FUCKING SHIT I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE FUCKING LIFE

In this movie tails was a helpful hero that helped sonic when needed, knuckles was brawn before brains and gullible by being tricked by Eggman. Hopefully in the 3rd movie shadow will be like his 2000s self by being the serious, intelligent, passionate, intelligent hero who fought for people who he cared about

Ngl this is one of the few game movies that have actually been super successful. One thing I extremely loved about the movie was how serious knuckles was. It’s nice to have the old Knuckles back

I agree, the wedding scene in this movie is nearly pointless, and it just went on for too long. Especially when they focused too much on Rachel and her fiancé, and Rachel was just a side character in the first movie, so it felt too strange that she got a full scene about her and her fiancé that lasted too long, which was mostly unrelated to the main story of the movie. That scene could've been cut altogether, or at least shortened a bit.
I agree. That was my biggest con of the movie. Should’ve had more time with Sonic and Tails. The duo’s bond was just so fun to watch.

I loved the movie, but I'm still going to remain cautiously optimistic. These studios tend to become extremely trigger-happy with new releases when they realize a hit franchise might be in their hands... I hope Paramount takes their time and allows the material to breathe and grow as they move forward.

People have their opinions but imo I don’t think this movie deserves anything less than a 9. I also give it a 10 out of 10 and I rarely do that.
I loved the sonic the hedgehog 2 movie, my boy knuckles rules, the death egg robot was awesome, robotnik with powers is cool, and I loved the super sonic scene, I also loved the end credits scene of shadow. The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie is just as good as the Sonic the Hedgehog movie from 2020, also can I have a heart.
The best way I can describe the wedding subplot is by comparing it to the Mary Jane missions in Spider-Man PS4

I saw the movie yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic. It felt like it was about 4 hours long (and that's a good thing), and it completely blew the first one out of the water.
I'm not gonna spoil anything, but the last third and especially the ending had me hyped.
Also... stay after the credits. You won't be disappointed.
It was the best film I’ve ever seen when the final shot was on the screen (no spoilers) the theater I watched it in was screaming and almost burst my eardrums (won’t go to why because again spoilers) and it was just the BEST FILM EVER!!!

Interesting fact did you know that Jeff Fowler and Tim miller was CG movie production for the shadow the hedgehog 2005 cutscenes.
They even helped design G.U.N soldiers Space Colony ark and the White House. Even created the eggpod from Sonic 06

I was rally worried and upset when I saw the title... Than I realized that you meant them shattering expectations in a good way.
Yeah, there's just no doubt about it; this movie was absolutely AMAZING! It's better than the first movie in just about every way, and while the film isn't perfect, it's still a highly enjoyable treat for Sonic fans everywhere! Even if I still consider the OVA to be my favorite animated adaptation of a video game property, this sequel is fantastic and I'm excited to see what the future holds for Sonic's Hollywood career!

I actually didn't mind the runtime or the human characters. I think they took more of a backseat, and the scenes that they were in were legitimately funny.
I'm sure moving forward they'll take more and more of a backseat as it seems like the franchise wants to be more focused on Sonic and Friends ( which is where it's focus should be )

Makes you wonder about the quality of the Mario movie. Paramount has a rough history, yet this movie is pretty good. I know people don’t trust Illumination, but I still think it could be decent.

My family is going to see this movie later tonight but I’m not much of a movie theater goer myself anymore. I was only able to watch Winnie the Pooh and The Lorax movies on the big screen and that’s about it

1:10 i love how they broke the norm of that now, unlike other live-action movie adaptations in the past, but i'll be fair with the bumblebee 2018 movie, since is about him tryna get use to earth (TFCU reboot-verse wise) and the small budget also
