      Same here. At typical handgun competition distances, that combo seems to work the best for me. Seems to go well with Ben's "Color...smash" teaching. If I see the color in the A zone, smash the trigger. It's big enough to pick up quickly, but small enough to keep accurate shots in the A zone even out to 25 yards.

  • @713KaiWin
    @713KaiWin Před 3 měsíci +2

    The 8 moa circle was a game changer for me coming from a 2 moa dot. Having an astigmatism made the dots have a big weird ass bloom whereas with the 8 moa i can lower the brightness and still have a crisp reticle and the second shot of double taps are quicker for me when im aiming with a marker streak vs a pencil streak of light. Further distances are nice because i just put whatever im shooting at in the center of the circle (most of the time the circle is a lot smaller than the small steel plates). It also helped i played a lot of videogames and most crosshairs have no dot in the center so aiming with open space surrounded by the reticle is kind of more intuitive for me

    I prefer the complicated Holosun reticle for many reasons, most of which I won't articulate here. The one worth mentioning only occurred to me while watching another Ben Stoeger video the other day about obscuring your objective lens. Stoeger said something like 'nobody gets so good at shooting they just stop practicing target focus with a dot,' comparing it to trigger control, further explaining that you can't just master it permanently, "check out" of paying attention to it and move on to other parts of the shooting skill set. I drill trigger control daily, but couldn't remember the last time I spent any concerted effort practicing focusing on the target as opposed to the dot. I've tried obscuring my lens a few times, and got very little from it. I then realized that, for me anyway, the busy Holosun reticle is self-obscuring. When I focus on the objective plane instead of the target, I can't see around that thing to what I'm shooting at. What I started using as a crutch to help me find the dot in the early days of red dot use has become a great tool to keep me target focused, as I have to work to look through the rings at the target beyond them.

    @benstoeger I like a simple red dot, but using the 2moa with 8moa circle around it, when I start focusing on the red dot, I see both, when I'm target focused, it's just one dot. It's helped me be more target focused as a training aid

    I have an older 407CO that just has an 8 MOA open circle. It is harder to shoot at 20-30+ yards than a 2moa dot, but I like it better for everything until that point. I have other dots that just have the 2 MOA and they work great too, I wish they would combine the two and just come out with a 6ish MOA dot.
    I also have a 507C that I seem to switch back and forth between the 2 moa and the 2 moa with the 32 moa circle almost every time I shoot. I feel like the 32 moa helps bracket targets, but then I realize I'm just aiming with the dot anyway, so I turn it off until I forget how little the bracket actually helps

    I think i might be going to CO division sometime in the future. I have seen a lot of shooters say that a larger MOA dot such as a 6 moa is their preference, and i think it has something to do with 'seeing' the dot faster or better. Interesting that Ben prefers a smaller dot and so does a friend of mine. Could it be just a matter of preference with regards to the dot size? Or maybe one can simply adjust the brightness to make the dot look bigger? Truly interesting.

    @itsjustme77 Před 3 měsíci

    Hi Ben, I wanted to offer an opinion on dot selection from the perspective of someone who has astigmatism, as it affects about 1/3 of the population.
    Most of us that have astigmatism have a problem using small 2MOA dots as they end up looking like a starburst, and the more the power is cranked up, the larger the flaring. The flaring can get so bad that it could reach the borders of the A zone at 10yards and beyond.
    Personally, I’ve found much more success with a 5 moa or 6 moa dot size. For some reason, dots at this size simply don’t flare for me, and the worst my astigmatism does on a bad day is make the dot look like the shape small egg, or at times, like the planet Saturn with its rings.
    Thus, while I did give the 507comp a go, I chose to stick with a 5 MOA Trijicon SRO and 6 MOA Holosun EPS instead, as both were clearer than the 2moa dot + 8moa circle on the 507 Comp.
    I hope that, with future content, you’ll address this issue further, as I’ve met many people with similar cases such as my own.
