This is the best video "series" on CZcams... When you run out of stories, I'd be perfectly fine if you just started making some up as long as you keep presenting them all like this 😂... GREAT stuff man
I'm prefer "Fondled by an Uncle." "Adventures in Card Dealing" is definitely second place though!
I am starting to run out of ones that would make a good video (maybe have like 5 left). Maybe Ill try to get other dealers to submit their stories somehow
I agree 👍
I have some really good ones. Owned a lcs from 89 to 94 , strike got me. But I saved my collection when I closed. Finding some great cards. Good to see the hobby exciting again and look forward to your content. Thanks Chris
@@collectorinvestordealer That may be a great idea. You interview them for the show, knowing they will be featured on your youtube channel. You have many contacts, it could keep these stories going for a long time yet.
Thank you for being the one guy on CZcams that doesn’t ask to like or subscribe. You let the viewer decide on their own.
The lesson of all of these stories can be summed up as: You gotta know when to hold ‘em. Know when to fold ‘em. Know when to walk away. Know when to run.
Never count your money, when your sittin at the table

I've been out of the card game for many many years, but absolutely love your channel. Don't tell my wife I am so tempted to start again!!! Great show Chris!
Glad you didn't fall for the ol "second room" trick Chris lol. You sniffed it out and saved yourself and the Texas Snowman a lot of grief
100k for Room 1, or 95k for everything! Totally makes sense, but also very funny :)
Smart move. Sellers sometimes don’t understand how impossible it is to sell bulk commons….unless they are 60’s and in excellent shape (which 99% are not). Many times when someone calls for a deal they have already allowed someone to “cherry pick” the good stuff and are looking to dump the crap…so I always ask if anyone has looked or bought anything in the collection. It doesn’t take long to know if this is the case or not…..
Oooh, there's a 2nd room! I'm sensing a barn sojourn!
Wow, I couldn’t imagine your surprise when you walked in to that second room full of boxes stacked to the ceiling. Shame he wouldn’t go for yours and Jeremy’s deal, but at least you got to make a few dollars off the purchase, and resale of the extras. Would have been nice to see how valuable the room 1 deal might have turned out.
this is a great lesson on when it's right to pass... I think 100% you made the right call and this story would have been on a "worst purchases ever" video of yours had you bought the entire collection @ $120K. Thanks for the story and video.
This is the best series on CZcams thanks for the videos man I really enjoy them. I would like to hear more about that really nice bench in Nebraska though lol
Haha! It was this lovely little bench with a dedication to an old couple who had been pillars of the community. I dont remember exactly but I wish I had taken a photo of it.
Awesome story Chris! I thought for sure you were going to tell us John found a couple 800 count boxes full of 1986 Fleer Jordans in room 2. In the end it worked out for everyone and you made a good assessment on the front end.
Amazing story! I appreciate the stories where you don’t buy the collection as much as in the stories that you do. Thanks for the great video.
I love these stories!!!! BEEN waiting to hear another great one. Your channel is Booming brother, your content is great because you are genuine guy.
Thank you for the content. I enjoy all of it, but these series are especially interesting. You're a great asset to the hobby.
Love these stories being a one time collector and being in business in general. Thanks!
Had a small heart attack when you said Jeremy "is no longer living" but before I processed "in Arizona" 🤣
Ha! Me too. Reminded me of the doctor on Arrested Development
I absolutely love these stories! You could do one of these every week and it would be fine for me.
Great story as usual Chris, thank you for sharing. It sounds like a lot of work looking through these large collections but I would absolutely love to do the it more often myself. It’s like a mini treasure hunt looking through collections. Anyone whose done this knows that most of the time the seller overvalues the collection or there are just too many low end cards to make it worth reselling. However finding a good deal or a couple of treasures makes it all worth while. Keep up the great content!!!!
I LOVE these stories, keep them coming!
Great story!!! Thanks for sharing!!! Awesome stories every time!!! Love to hear the thought process of a big sale and their outcome. Wishing you much continued success!!!💰💰💰💪
Great video love watching and trying to learn, I have collected since the late 60's and now just getting in to trying to sell cards for my retirement. Keep posting so I can keep learning!
As always I really enjoy your stories, especially buying collections. My strategy is very similar to John’s, but to a much smaller degree. I buy small collections on local marketplace and Craigslist deals, usually around or under $100. Think the most I’ve spent is $300. My strategy is always, I’ll buy if I think I can at least break even selling off the stuff I don’t want, so I’m only out time and gas money for adding some stuff I do want for my pc. It works out pretty well that way and I often make a better profit than that if I find some gems I didn’t see in my quick skim through the collection
You could legit make up stories and i would sit here and Listen all day. Love your content
Love the real story vlogs. Bring some more to this channel!! 🙏
Great story Chris ! Wise choice on your part, really enjoy your channel, keep em coming 👍
Thanks for sharing. This is truly the big leagues of collecting. We small timers love to get the "inside baseball" on this level deals. Like dreaming when we buy a lotto ticket...
These are my favorites videos of all time any channel any video, keep it up we need more
Hi Chris. Wanted to let you know - I have NO interest in baseball cards, but love your stories! I'm a big Magic the Gathering collector and I take great joy in hearing about your escapades. Maybe living a bit vicariously through you :). If you keep making these, I'll keep watching!
Man, I love watching your channel. I prefer the stories to the ebay sales info (still interesting). I've been buying some collections to piece out. It's been going pretty well. Haven't lost yet! Some home runs! Sone singles up the middle. The hardest part is coming up with a fair price but being confident that I won't lose. Also walking away from good stuff because the price is too high. Keep up the good work!!
Chris, you were wise to pass on this one. Very cool how it still worked out for you. Thanks for sharing this interesting story!
Master storyteller. Even with stock photos I was listening to every word. Great stuff man.
the dreaded room 2 lol! Sounds like it worked out for everyone! Love it! Thanks for another banger! PS, Liking the start of the beard!
Love these hobby stories. Keep it up.
Glad something came out of it for you.
Very cool story. You gonna know when to hold em and when to fold em. Thanks for sharing. This was an awesome watch for me.
I love the content and hope you continue to make videos. I'm also a huge Cal Jr fan as I live close to Maryland. You're Ripken Jr collection blows mine outta the water though lol.
Chris, always enjoy your stories & adventures of hunting Cards. I may have missed it in an episode somewhere. But you had mentioned in one of your stories about a large purchase in Kansas. Still curious as to that story.
Great content, Chris. Keep up the great work.
Awesome content, thank you so much for your story and experiences.
I really enjoy these stories. Thank you for sharing them.
Great story Chris! Another reason why I hate junk wax commons - just way too many of them! - all they do is complicate a deal and try to give the impression that there has to be something valuable in all this junk! Good move to offer $5000 reduction in offer just to take care of “junking” the junk. I hope we won’t see another junk wax era!
Ted
Great stuff Chris, you're a treasure to the hobby.
Great example of a walk-away, Chris. Thanks for sharing.
Great story and content as always! I'm still waiting for the story where you slip up and talk about buying a storage unit in which that often mentioned time machine was sitting behind a 8 foot stack of 3500 count boxes and took you back to CZcams in the year 2020 😊
Love these stories! The best
Fascinating story. That second room sounded like a card mausoleum.
These stories are so cool! Thanks for sharing!
Love your honesty in these stories 😎
Great listening to your adventures. I am getting up there in age and has made me think how to prepare for my son a path to sell the collection in the future. After 34 years of collecting I have been mainly a vintage collector but not just cards autographs, ,game used bats, comics unopened vintage packs historical on and on. I have some modern and junk wax all in order as I have been a set builder. Gets a little more complicated organizing for selling because of the variety. At least watching your videos has got me thinking.
Thank you for watching the channel! Feel free to reach out anytime at sewallsportscards@gmail.com
As the son of someone with a large collection, do them a favor and sell as much of the low end/cheaper stuff as possible. Save that money for yourself. Refine your collection to the most expensive few items you can afford.
@@nautilusshell940 That is good advice, and I have been contemplating and organizing trying to figure where I want to sell it and to who the lesser valued. The high value will not be a problem just deciding which auction houses.
I loved this video so much. I’m from Nebraska and I’d really love to hear what town this was from. I now work at a shop in Lincoln and you got me sucked in from the start of the video when you said it was in Nebraska. Love your content man, hope to meet someday!
Hi Chris Love the channel. I buy vintage baseball and hockey on eBay and I was hoping to see what you had for sale. It’s always good to see a trustworthy person to do business with on eBay.
I am in the middle of selling my collection of over 5 million cards. Lots of vintage and memorabilia. This helped me tremendously!
Wauw !
Very impressed by how accurately you can estimate the value of such a collection
Great video as always. I think everyone loves your stories! So you charge 30% for all of the work and you also pay all of the fees? That seems awfully nice of you.
Can you please do a video on the worst deal you ever agreed to? As in dollar wise where you got completely hosed and the other party made out like a bandit? I think we could all learn a lot from it. Love your videos by the way
Great story. Too many cards for me to handle. But probably fun to go through them to see what gems were uncovered.
You are a great storyteller thanks for sharing!!
YES!!! Story time! My favorite vids!
I couldn't care less about sports cards, but you are a great storyteller.
Crazy story! Glad you dodged that bullet and made the right choice. At least you got to sell some cool cards anyway...
Great Story! I am a vintage collector with about 30,000 cards. I can relate to your room 2 just being mostly of no value or not worth the effort.
Cool story and very interesting the two Perspectives 👍
At mention of the second room I laughed out loud! Nice play, though.
Another Sewall spellbinding report. Keep them coming.
Very interesting story, as usual!
Always some cool stories you should write a book on your adventures it would be a great read
Great story....thanks!
Love it! More like this please!
Grats on getting bigger!
As always, great story
I’m ready for the movie. The stories are awesome! I’m thinking Adam driver can play Chris? If someone has a better suggestion I’m open to it. I would gladly throw down my $15 to see a movie with all the stories strong together. Keep up the good work!
If you ever comeback to the States especially in ohio I would love to have you come by and see & sell my collection. I am still looking to sell my collection. Excellent video Chris
Wonderful story, although now I want to know more about that nice bench.
It was a lovely bench that was dedicated to an old couple who were pillars of the community. I wish I had taken a picture :)
@@collectorinvestordealer That's such a nice memory. It obviously left an impression since you mentioned it.
Thanks for the story!
Texas welcomes the snowman lol, I live in the Houston area.
He just moved to Dallas, not too far from Houston?
A thousand pictures, but you have no pictures?? Haha! Excellent, as always my friend. Thanks
Jeremy just sent me the facebook post (or whatever website it was) which has long been taken down
@@collectorinvestordealer That's awesome, bro. I was just jabbing you a bit.
my favorite type of videos! Wish you had 1000 more lololol
Always love storytime!
A lifetime of business stories is always fun.
Him unloading his bulk on you is nuts
Good assessment on "Room 2". It's likely a sign that bulk collections have little or no value if they are stored in a grain silo! Really happy to hear another "Adventures in Card Dealing" story. Thanks
My favorite part of this channel
Brilliant, thank you.
Love your stuff
Almost sounded like my collection towards then end lol. I had pulled out all the vintage and sold off. Then pulled all the autos and memorabilia crads and sold those. Was just base and inserts at the end, but in order ( sport, brand, year)
I hope you left some key RCs out of the dealer sale to keep long term and make some money down the line. I'm sure there was some long term holds like the Trouts in there.
Chris, would love to see a video on card storage from someone that no doubt has gone through many a box and binder. Would love to see what a pro does with his For Sale/Long Holds/PC stuff and storage recommendations.
Thats a good idea for a video, Ill consider it
i just thought of this- i think so many people like these story vids you could tell stories of some of your other friends that are dealers. maybe some good way to get more content -- since we are all dying for more of this lol!
Oooh that is a great idea!
@@collectorinvestordealer 74gear does this in his crazy aviation stories series - its about aviation and not baseball cards though. It is really good and he just puts a good disclaimer up front but then tells it in 1st person.
Great video!
Just imagining room 2 with all those boxes of common cards just gives me a headache. I normally give my commons away to kids cause I just dont want to deal with it and dont have the room to storage it.
Love your videos
Great Details wow what a hoard of commons in Room 2. I'm like you this day Chris almost shaved today too. Manziel & Tebow 1/1 $0.00 how fitting 🤣🤣🤣 Huge 120k asking & no bugging on price when everyone's gotta haul their butt out to the middle of nowhere Nebraska to a partially sorted mess was not very cool on the seller imo.
One of the best stories I've heard. It appears you still made out in the end as did your friend the collector who bought the cards. Do you consign often and is your take 30% after fees or before fees? I currently consign and would like to know how you determine your fee structure. If you prefer me to email you, please let me know. Thanks Chris.
I did a lot of consigning when I still lived in the States and 30% was sort of standard, although it depended on the volume of the collection. I dont do consignments at the moment (unless it was really high end stuff)
Damn you paid back half the plane ticket. Solid thought process.
awesome broski
It was like the warehouse at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark 😭
Awesome strategy 🤩👍
It’s rare that such a situation works out for all parties involved.
Chris, in the words of Carly Simon, “ Nobody does it better “.
Hey Mr. Sewell. Just want to say thank you for providing consistent level headed information during this wild past year. You helped me not go overboard by providing much needed perspective. I appreciate you and your channel. If I was going to send you something what is the PO Box?
Thank you, that is very cool to hear. If you would like to mail me a collection for me to buy, you can email me at sewallsportscards@gmail.com
@@collectorinvestordealer it was just a few (maybe ten or so) Cal Ripkens I came across in my .25 cent box treasure hunts.
As a token of my appreciation
