I suffer from insomnia after I had fallen unconscious because of chronic fatigue. This caused nocturnal panic attacks and consequently fear of falling asleep. Been sleeping for an hour or three max. Somehow CZcams‘s algorithm stumbled upon your videos and a miracle happened. Your soothing voice actually made me fall asleep! Now whenever I have a panic attack I play your videos in my headphones and drift to sleep calmly. My brain hears what you say and I get some ZzZzs 😊 you are a savior for me, thank you!

I’ve never slept through the night since childhood because I had to be continually on guard and vigilant. I struggle to get to sleep and sleep for no more than two hours straight.
On the days I work, I have an energy drink to get me through the morning - not good for my body. When I used to wake during the night I would get so angry, but now I say: Thank you for waking me up, Heavenly Father - I’m so glad I can have some time to talk to you with no interruptions. I thank Him for the things I remember to be grateful for, and I also tell him my worries. This may happen several times during the night, but I usually fall asleep during our chats. 😊

I usually have no problem sleeping, but I frequently have very traumatic nightmares (often related to pain, fear of certain diagnoses, etc.) and wake up in a panic attack. I have started to remind myself that "it's just a dream. Even as a kid, you've had scary dreams that seemed real but never came true."

I’ve had an appointment with a homeopath who gave me a remedy for the terrifying nightmares I had several times a night for years, working with my particular set of symptoms/personality. Sleep for me is the last bastion of mindbody that I still working on. I'm going through year 4 of TMS and I still get the fear creep. I think it's partly due to the fact that I am still fearful at the subconscious level, which is where my mind is in the semiconscious state of falling asleep. I will say that my sleep has improved from insomnia from experiencing it every night in the beginning to about 2 nights a week now. So the subscious is slowly started to get it. It does help to keep reminding myself that there is nothing wrong when I am awake, even through I know the emotions of fear and physical symptoms are there.

As having slept bad since 2004,start of chronic illness- stuff , overload of stress.. I still have a positive mindset.
I catastrophizied real hard in the beginning but eventually just accepted it ..
A good trick is telling yourself: I’m gonna stay awake all night!
Every time I do that, I get some sleep.
There’s a lot of science that’s really scary but after 2 decades now, I’m still alive , and I trust to resolve the sleep over time.
For me it’s really just my brain being scared to be too relaxed 😄!
I had that issue during the day as well but that’s gone already..
    Everything will be all right!

It’s been over a year since I had it, and now I’m convincing myself I have problems from it. I’m forgetting well known actors names, and I’m constantly testing myself to prove to myself that I do in fact have memory problems which only seems to make my memory worse.

I agree 100% that inability to fall asleep is due to a perceived danger. I can't sleep if I know that I have to get up early to drive my child to school tomorrow. And it doesn't matter if I have 6 or 10 hours for a sleep. I would just lay dormant in bed for hours until I lose patience and go for a sleeping pill. But when my kid is on vacation and I don't need to get up early, I don't have any issues and fall asleep easily. My brain apparently thinks that having limited time to sleep is a threat and resists turning off. What an absurd situation. It lasts for years and I havent found a solution. I bring my kid to school after a sleepless night, then sleep half a day, and then work in a hurry till night. Have no time for myself and my family.

    • @alekseym5257

@@user-dianejcml, insomnia is one of the unpredictable and stubborn symptoms. Mine started with back pain. It was triggered by exercise - if I put any type of training - this night no sleep. Then I started fear sleeping, that I won't be able to work without a night sleep - insomnia became chronic. When back pain was gone with TMS approach insomnia shifted to anticipatory type. Anyway, Dan's advise definitely works. I tried to relax and enjoy my bad without worrying that I would be crushed in the morning and I actually got a few hours of sleep that night without pills. It's not enough and it was a rough day after that - but it's a good start. I'm on sleeping pills for years and it would be great to finally get rid of them.

Dan I am a big fan and everything you say is spot on. The problem for me is applying these mindsets when there is a physiological problem. I am tapering a benzo I have taken for 23 years. There is not enough calming brain chemicals to keep me asleep. There are cortisol and adrenaline rushes that jack up the body and cause a chemical fear response that you can’t overcome cognitively. And this has gone on for months. It sounds good that the body will catch up when it needs to but not always true. Mine is the same night after night. After months of 2-3 hours of sleep a night and nocturnal panic attacks it is affecting mood, cognition and the ability to carry out my duties at work. This kind of insomnia that is not all fear is real and it is debilitating. I appreciate you taking up the topic. I’m at my wits end speaking with this every day and trying to have some kinfpd of life and working full time which I have no choice but to do.

Love this video Dan, so pleased you are covering this. So many people unnecessarily "suffer" their mindset over sleep, past self included! As Inge said I also read so much scary literature about sleep over the years too...eventually I found some research that said it's very common for individual sleep patterns/cycles to change throughout our lives & it varies from person to person. For many reasons, some people even intentionally set their alarms to wake themselves up at intervals during the night (religious, creative inspiration, dream record). My father who was a stickler for "Must get 8hrs sleep per night" (drummed into him by his mother & passed on to me) now at 91 only sleeps in cycles of 1.5 hrs waking to pee, then returning back to bed... & he has been like this for at least 30yrs!! I have always my own unique sleeping pattern & have finally accepted it is so. I wish this for everyone. Thank you Dan as always.Xxx💜

I am not a doctor so it is tough to tell you specifically. However, I do know for certain that a brain that believes "nerve damage from B6 toxicity" will keep symptoms going. I'm curious what would happen if you began teaching your brain that you were actually okay and whatever happened has already healed. Often, fear and attention on the symptoms are enough to keep them going, long after the physical issue has healed or resolved. There is no downside to this work.
