The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

one of her hardest song
this requires vocal stamina and absolute vocal control and lung power
She can go from being nearly out of breath to the introduction then right into belting out the first verse without missing a beat. Dionne was a true talent that will never be imitated.
Is that Wynn in Berkeley?
Yes, that was surprising!
Is a true talent.
The very best. And so humble.
Intro was live. The actual song is a sound track that she's lip syncing to. That would explain change of breath between intro vs. song.
Covering over an octave and with varying time signatures, this is a very difficult song to sing. Warwick is perfect
Try singing it. It's all that and it's also a blast.
I can sing it in my sleep
@@secrets.295 no you couldn't
@@mariahyohannes this isn’t a really a hard song if you know the time signature changes
@@mylesharris6329 are you going to upload a video showing us how it's done?
The fact that she sang this so well while pregnant with her oldest son David, is a testament to her great talent and a brilliant mastery of her craft.👍🏽💯😊
Her voice is simply amazing. She has such a vocal range and it’s so beautiful.
I love this song being sung by Dionne Warwick. It my favorite. GOD bless Dionne, Hal David, and Burt Bacharach for this truly fabulous song.
IMO this is the most sophisticated pop song ever written. Just my view..
Agree totally! If it even challenges Dionne to sing it, it really is sophisticated.
Facts!
She went from such a demure voice introducing the song, then WHAM! One of THE most beautiful voices EVER ! ! !
Glowing and pregnant! She’s absolutely beautiful here.
This is a very difficult song to sing for a professional. She nails it!
So glad theses old clips of Dionne are popping up.
Dionne is one of the best in her time. Love listening to her.
She makes this song sound so effortless, but it is the most difficult song to sing in the biz!
I'm shaking my head in disbelieve of just what an amazing singer she is!! goose bumps and all.
Real ability and a true talent!!!🌹
Supposed to be one of the hardest songs to sing of all time. She is amazing.
Well documented
This is stunning. Dionne doesn't employ arrogant, off-putting vocal acrobatics the way most contemporary singers belch out today. Bacharach could give her even the most complex songs like this and she'd just deliver them to perfection, thus putting the writer's song in the best light. But the other key thing Dionne shares with my other most favorite singer, Karen Carpenter - she conveys warmth.
My sentiments exactly. Ha ha, "belch" is right!
The First Black Pop Star. She paved the way for us all!
Ever hear of a guy called Nat King Cole?
The 1st....
I think Diana Ross would have an issuie with that.
@@rah62She was a solo performer years before Ross. It’s said that Ross was inspired a bit by Dionna
Jerry Orbach had to sing this in the musical and he was really struggling in rehearsals saying: How do you sing this s***?! So Burt rushed Dionne into the studio and then gave the recording to Orbach saying: This is how you sing this s***!
What a way to go Burt!!!! RIP MY MAN LOVE YOU!!!!
Wow. I'm trying to picture Jerry Orbach singing this
Dionne Warwick is celebrating her 81 birthday today, December 12, 2021 She was born in Orange, New Jersey on December 12, 1940. She is an American singer, television host, and former Goodwill Ambassador for the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization. Warwick ranks among the 40 biggest US hit makers between 1955 and 1999, based on her chart history on Billboard's Hot 100 pop singles chart. She is one of the most-charted female vocalists of all time, with 56 of her singles making the Hot 100 between 1962 and 1998 (12 of them Top Ten), and 80 singles in total - either solo or collaboratively - making the Hot 100, R&B and/or adult contemporary charts
What a performance! She's a master of voice!
No easy melody and time signature to perform live , but She still does a wonderful job with it ..
Poor Dionne!! Took a moment for her to get a breath. Wish Ms. Warwick wasn't being so rushed here but she made it through like a champ.
This is so good, she launches into the song without effort, the song itself goes all over the place, a real challenge for a singer but Dionne makes it look effortless. ❤️
So good , she’s out of breath when she announces it and sings like that absolutely stunning performance
Burt and David themselves said that they could throw anything at Dionne😄 and she would end up killing it.
Holy Toledo, she was so stunningly beautiful.
Not one singer today could do this. Dionne is way too slept on. She is a vocal beast. I love her Bacharach collaborations, but it was the 70’s when she switched to r&b & showed the world she was every bit the talent Aretha was. When Dionne would do her signature belt while putting the mic under her arm or down to her waist? I have never seen another singer that could do that. Aretha, Barbra, Dionne, Whitney….there will never be TRUE singers like their kind ever again 😢
Sarah Vaughan
@@fredalwatkins4506 As much as I love Dionne, Aretha, Chaka, it’s always Sassy for me
Whitney was her cousin as was Leontyne Price .... interesting eh??
Lea Michelle did a good job on the cover also
"It was the 70"s when she switched to R and B" ..what are u a MORON? Yes she crossed over in the 60's , but it was always R and B
The most interesting facts about Dionne is that she has a doctorate in voice and music studies. Her breathing is well controlled along with her vocal techniques. The songs written and arranged for her were crafted to her unique ability. Very few could keep up with her
Dionne Warwick's skillful breathing, phrasing and timing, show her musical intelligence!
One of the greatest female vocalists EVER !!!! "Deja Vu" from 1979 is another one of my favorites.
Omg love that song thanks for reminding me
I loved deja Vu and this song also!
Yes Yes yes
So sexy that song.
You have good taste
From talking right into singing.
My goidness.
WOW 👌! That is skill.
Her is so soft yet strong. Singing runs in the family.
What a beautiful woman.
She sure makes it look easy.
Wow! This thing changes time signature every few bars, and she just nails it to sound so natural singing the tune. A virtuoso.
Truly a Triad of Talent and sung with undoubtably one of the Best Voices in the Business!!!!! Dionne,Burt and Hal are an absolute culmination of Genius!!!!!As a child one of my most memorable and recognizable talents that stood Head and Shoulders above everything else !!!!! I just hope we can listen to Dionne in the next life!!!!!!
Dionne with Those Powerhouse Vocal Acrobatics While Clearly Pregnant!!! 🎶🔥🔥🔥🎶
No lip syncing, she is so talented
She can really sing these impossible Bacharach/David songs!
There would be no Sixties without Dionne Warwick and Burt Bacharach - a team as mighty as Adam West and Burt Ward.
What a voice after she talks and start singing so much louder
RIP Burt, buddy we'll ALL be joining you soon enough the only difference is most of us won't be remembered for very long while you'll have a few hundred years of people knowing who you were (barring global thermonuclear war, of course. 🤞)
@BM Trudat!
Ms. Dionne's look and voice is truly exquisite!!!!
It's great and I appreciate the efforts to give new life to these Ed Sullivan Show performances.
It's just a shame that the clear rhythms of the orchestration, to guide me through the time signature changes, were muddied with time. Ms. Warwick's voice is wonderful.
I swear I can hear her influence on Janelle Monae's song style, and hearing this song actually makes Janelle's voice make even that much more sense.
Wow this is sung incredible beautiful from her.
Her talent and these songs stand the test of time. Truly timeless and her performance as always was outstanding. We played and continue to play her music and her composers of these classics again and again and they sound as fresh and stunning now as they did upon first listen.
This song ranks right up there with Sondheim for level of difficulty and complexity. I still marvel at how they came up with this arrangement. And she’s such a pro, carrying this off while pregnant?!!
up there with "I''m not getting married Today" from Company.
Nobody can sing this song better than Dionne Warwick. This is such a difficult song to sing and she rocks it out with jumping from one octave to a higher one. She is so bloody talented, and I can’t help but feel so much joy when I listen to her sing this song and many others
What a marvelous vocalist
And listen to the melody, lyric and arrangement by Hal David and Bacharach. She killed every single song and was such a lady through it all. One of the legends no doubt. Singers study this one, especially for locking in on melody.
I am a male singer and I have been studying Ms. Dionne for a long time🙂
This is one the most difficult songs (all time) to sing. She can't breathe or she will be behind on the rest of the song. Only a LEGEND like Dionne can sing this!
💯!!!!!!! One and only Ms. Queen iconic Dionne!!
She definitely breathes. She just does it at strategic times
Exactly. Well put
What phenomenal songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David were! The word "genius" is thrown about way too loosely in today's world, but that designation is absolutely applicable to them! Wow!
What a beautiful voice and what a beautiful woman!
That music degree came in handy.... Dionne crushes the rhythmic difficulties in this song like a champ.
Ms. Dionne also just has pure talent!!
One of the most difficult songs to sing. Shesmake it seem like butter
I think she was pregnant here. I’ve never heard her be so winded while singing. She still killed it tho!
You absolutely see cousin Whitney in Ms. Dionne.
IT IS.... one of the hardest songs to sing of all time. She is amazing.

Her music is the epitome of the 1960s for me. I love her.
There’s a reason many avoided recording this song, as they have with many of Dionne’s hits. It has difficult timing, inflections, and octave jumps. You can’t just be a good singer, you have to understand music. Dionne is a musician!
Yes, Sir!
A true star! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
So classy, and what a beautiful voice!
I love this song....
I gives me joy...
😍
One of the best voices in music.

That song is really difficult to sing
Dionne expertly meanders through it with total absolute skill
Amazing, love her singing this. Loved the musical, just awesome, the music, takes me right back.
Lyricists loved Dionne as she delivered the lines exactly as scored.
2023: RIP maestro Bacharach - thank you for the music
I’m 69 years old and this song just came to mind ! I have listened to so many amazing groups and artists over the years that it’s impossible to keep them all current in my life ! I will be listening to more of this legend!
This song is a beast.
No one interprets Bacharach and Hal like Dionne Warwick.
Beautiful performance. Elegant and classy.
Amazing singer the best of the best top shelf
I just love her voice.
Ed Sullivan had THE BEST orchestra on American live TV
Effortlessly ❤🎉❤🎉
I know the orchestra on the Sullivan show were all pros, but playing this in odd meters with probably very little rehearsal is very impressive
Burt Bacharach's arrangements are challenging indeed.
Yes but it wasn't seamless. There were a couple of places where singer and band were not together. She also had issues with a medley she sang on this same appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. She overall seemed atypically nervous which would lead one to think that it may have been because of little to no prior rehearsal with the band.
That 'band' sounded more like a prerecorded orchestra to me 🤔
@@michaelwarren7962 It wasn't. She also sang a medley on this appearance and she takes the time to thank the band.
@@kevingoins9858 Bobby Vee used to say the same thing about Be True To Yourself. It was a tough one to sing.
I always loved the Ed Sullivan Show because everything was live and you actually got a glimpse of every artist at the height of their career! Dionne Warwick ....definitely one of the greatest vocalist of our Generation!
I wish they’d bring back Ed Sullivan, and Dick Cavett...two of the best entertainment shows of that generation. Carol Burnett was a riot, too. Nowadays I can’t find sh*t to watch of any value 🙃
@@smartmarketing173 They're dead
@@mariahyohannes Everyone knows, you know

@@mariahyohannes So what? We all gotta go some day.
I love this song, as well as love all bacharach-dionne warwick songs! SHE "OWNS" THIS SONG! to me, rather hear her sing it. I was surprised this song and other famous songs-tunes were from PROMISES, PROMISES. puzzles me : why no movie was ever made of this play. One part of song sounds like one from 1973's LOST HORIZON. BUT this was the BEST OF TV (1960s-1970s-1980s); entertainment! LOVE DIONNE! Beautiful lady! Love her singing and love her songs.
The elegance the curtsy. The smile and personal engagement with the audience!!! Let’s talk about the performance, the singing the mastery!!! I can definitely see Whitney Houston’s artistic influence in Queen Dionne🎶💖👑✨🙏🏾✨
Great. Play. And. Song❤❤❤❤
I just love her.
Beautiful! Just Beautiful! And many thanks to the great composer Burt Bacharach, and lyricist Hal David for their numerous outstanding collaborations during Dionne's highly successful career! Bravo!
I can't believe she will be 80 years this year!
D-I-V-A!!!!! The way she segues from talking into singing....WERK!!
the bass on this is so crazyy!!!!
A true legend!
PERFECTION.
I love this 😍
Fantastic song
Best of the best!
Outstanding!!
My #1 Sanger of the 1960s!!!!
My favorite female singer. Just love her.
Gotta breath in the right places! Love Dionne!
And She did this incredibly difficult song while pregnant true skills. I know Dionne couldn't wait for that song to be over the way she ran off at the end said it all lol
I still have the album. This song always gives me chills❤
I try sining this song couldn't get it done she is a genius listening to this February 2023 the best female singer ever.
... Sacred Song!!!...
Even a casual listener will be surprised how she’s talking then able to go into singing wow!! I only wish she was a spokesperson for the physic advisor commercials on tv. Uggg.
One of DIONNE'S BEST...A VERY DIFFICULT SONG TO SING.. BRAVO
