It is refreshing to see a working DJ/Producer who is grinding away at achieving success and yet be so down to earth, humble and still have so much drive even when faced with the obstacles of the current music industry.
hey jon! on the topic of merchandising, I have dabbled in the "fashion" business myself at one time. I have found that when you do not have a guaranteed number of sales in advance of ordering large numbers of tshirts (for example a retail store that has commited to purchasing 1000 tshirts) it is better to adopt a "drop-shipping" business structure. There are numerous websites which can facilitate this (for example redbubble , zazzle ect.) in which you upload your design (jon sine logo) and that website will print the tshirt to order and post it to your customer regardless of where they are in the world. They take most of the profits however you get a commision on each sale and there is no hassle to you what so ever. You are basically being paid per tshirt sold just for the use of your design. Some websites (eg. redbubble) allow you to upload the same design on to numerous items at once , like tshirts, mugs , hats , stickers , all the good stuff! hope this helps!
By adopting this method you have no upfront cost. The only cost to you is the cost of your time to set it up in the first place which does not take long at all.
Dear Jon!
Your youtube thing is so honest and inspirational, that it makes no possible reason not to react to your situation. Give people love and they'll give it back to you. Good luck in music business, hope everything goes well, sooner or later (better sooner). Cheers, love and respect. Keep your thing going!
I would happily pay money for you to continue the vlogs mate. I love the insight that you give, and it would upset me to not be able to see them everyday. Thanks man! Don't lose faith mate!
On the merchandise front. You should look into sites like Cafepress.com and Spreadshirt.com. These sites allow you to upload and store your design. They will only produce and ship your items when you make a sale. Of course they will take a commission but there is no upfront cost and they handle all the sales and shipping. I want me a Jon Sine T shirt baby!
Mixing and mastering service sounds the most practical one . There are plenty of producer subscribers here who can use your service right off the bat. Get it started asap.
Merchandise is a bad idea for now.
How about playing more gigs, if you have more opportunities in the near future? (Im writing this and you mentioned it, too lazy to delete it :). ) Good luck with the gig Jon :)
Just gave my USB to one of manager here in Dubai. Hopefully I could get a DJ gig here in Dubai. Wish me luck guys :)
Thank you for listening and commenting on my video :)
Have a good weekends everyone!
Clorox Bleach USB with the livemix inside it :)
Did you get it? haha
2018 and I'm just learning how to get better with music... Thank you Jon!
You are a superb person and i am sure you will get back at a stabke positions very fast..respect for u
I'm really happy to hear that things are looking up for you man!
Your videos are very good man! And your house songs are great!
Congrats from Brazil.
love your channel! watching your videos is really helping me, as an aspiring producer/artist myself, to keep plugging away, working at my music and trying to make it a career. watching your videos helps me in so many ways and your videos are always answering questions i have that no one else had answered as well as providing me a positive and motivational example of someone doing what i want to do. keep up the amazing content, it means so much to me, i really appreciate what you are doing.
All the best mate! you will look back at this and laugh like you said.
Your situation just makes me wanna start vlogging aswell so i can do something to help you out! Aweome thing with the lawyer!
Jon for the merchandise you can do an agrement with some Aliexpress sellers. You give them the logo and they make the product, adicing to this that sending stuff from China isn't expensive
Olav's a legend. Seen quite a few of his tutorials on online music production course sites.
Anthony Ntobom OGAR I couldn't find the guy he mentioned in the video. Could you point me in the right direction?
Maybe think about selling AXENS and John Sine stickers. You could charge pretty good, and keep the cost low by mailing them yourselves locally first, then start them everywhere
Hey man, on the merch idea. There is a way you can do it where it's stress-free, the prifit margin isn't as high but if you go on a print-on-demand service like Printful, you don't have to buy your shirts in bulk before they're ordered. You only create product designs and set up a website and when customers order something they (Printful) print the shirt and ship it to your customer. You receive the profit margin you set. Feel free to hit me up about if you want to know more about it, I'm working on setting up my own printful store at the moment
yes, make a patreon. it was about time.
I have a handful of Olavs Vinyl, supper great vlog. #addicted
hey bro keep up! dont give up....!
So amazing
Ayy the intro music sounds familiar to the patch loaded on the Sylenth-1 plugin when it's first deployed with some edits (sounds good tho ahah xD)
I think that the mixing/mastering service would be the best way for you to earn some money. The only problem that I can think of would be the taxes, since I think that Germany probably have as high taxes as here in Scandinavia which cut quite a bit off the payment. :/
Also, a patreon account would probably be quite good as well. :) Maybe integrate the mixing/mastering as a reward for a really high payment on your patreon?
Thanks man :) But he will still be forced to pay taxes on all of his income even if it's online or not. I was just thinking if patreon counts as "donations" and therefore doesn't have as high taxes as a mixing/mastering service would have. Gotta research this ^^
Mastering is a totally different art, I would leave that job up to professionals who have professional training in that field. No one can just start a mastering service unless they really know what they're doing.
Yea, I don't know if Jon master his tracks himself or not, but you're right. His mixdowns are really good though. I'd definitely be willing to pay for it :)
start monetizing ur vlogs 😉
Music is a dead end career. It’s very important to have a plan b. There’s plenty of incredibly gifted underground Hip-Hoppers who haven’t made it.
you could put merch on amazon and I think they'll ship it for you :) I'd definitely buy one of those Jon Sine t-shirts that you did a give away for
Nice video
Do it with Squarespace...absolutely love it!
SQUAAAAAD!
Hi Jon..I recall you saying that youre starting a Business...you Mix Tracks for others & Charge them? you ought . Do you have website? Do you MASTER Mixes and Charge? you ought to. BUT Please allow me to make a Very important suggestion. (Im gonna put it in CAPS, Im Not Yelling, its just "Emphasis added') START A WEBSITE! Very Important! With PRICES On it. I Think its Very Important To ENCOURAGE Yourself & Give Yourself HOPE & I think that a Website would do it, especially with Your Following. Youd have over 11,000 People viewing Your website right away, (you have over 11,000 subscribers). The OTHER Reason For The WEBSITE Is TO MERCHANDISE! Jon, Thats an Excellent Idea you have there. You have to Create a Logo or other artwork (you siad you do ARTWork) Regarding YOUR MUSIC (Focus It On Your MUSIC though, that kind of Artwork)...And put those on Shirts, Sweatshirts, Cups, pens, Hats, etc etc....have you heard of VISTAPRINT? Its online. I have done things like that myself using VISTAPRINT For ALL of Everything I Mentioned to You for another Business I had, and also my Music. get that Website up & I will check it out. May I suggest the following also. Rather than getting a PATREON account, SELL Things...The Same People who would Donate would Appreciate that more & WILL Spend The Money, Thats would be a WIN-WIN Situation Jon. Dont go backwards, PUSH Forward & Forge ahead Man. You CAN Do It! BY THE WAY, I Also Plan on Very soon Re-Launching A NEW Website For My Music as well & Merchandise. I also Draw & do Artwork & Ive created my Own (Vistaprint will Put Your Artwork on Mugs, Shirts, etc) I Know that you dont want to Pay Retail from Vistaprint for everything and then you cant really Sell that a a Markup BUT you can start there just to get a basic Prototypes) Also you have consider SHIPPING..So I suppose youd have to Work it out with a DISTRIBUTOR for Both Creating & Shipping (abroad). If you seel something from Germany, I think someone in America would buy it and pay a reasonable Shipping charge, just to say they got it from JON; In GERMANY! (WE ALL KNOW THAT GERMAN Goods Are Awesome!) That would be Wonderful. Oh by The WAY, My Maternal side of the family, My Grandpa, his last name Is GEBHARDT...(that would make me of German Heritage)...Sell German Made cookoo Clocks with Your Music Logo on it & YOUR Music TRACKS Playing out of it When the Cookoo Bird comes out every Hour (haha)...I dont know, perhaps being silly now, But i Think you get my Drift. GOD Bless & Best Wishes Jon :)
you should start releasing your own tracks
You can fulfill merchandise and shirts remotely. You don't need to ship it from there yourself
I would love to see a collab between you and @EmikaRecords I love her music.
You should start all ready with the patriot account, if every subscriber donates 1 euro or dollar you have around 10K :)
Jon - I notice that EDM/house/electronic artists tend to release music much less frequently than say, hip hop artists. What do you think about artists who release only 1 or 2 songs per year, and try to make them as big as possible, and then spend the rest of the year just touring/gigging? Is that sustainable? For example, I've been listening a lot to Mahmut Orhan who released only 2 songs over the last couple of years, though both were huge releases through Ultra ("Feel" and "Save Me"). Looking at this profile, he seems to just spend the rest of his time gigging/spinning at shows.
first you release a lot to have more tracks that get a chance to blow up every two months at least better every 6 weeks. if you made it it's enough 4 times a year. starting as a nobody with 4 tracks a year and make them big doesn't work at the beginning you won't have the power connections money or fanbase to do so
Jon Sine totally agree. So what you are saying is that you need a lot of volume in the beginning. After u r more established, you can release less frequently but focus on bigger releases.
if u relese tracks for free on the artist union soundcloud gate, u can set up donations too mate 😉
Jon Sine how long have you been doing music for?
do you pay monthly for the studio? if so why dont you just move youre stuff to your house and cut down on the cost?
hey Jon I have a question..
I downloaded an acapella of a famous song and made a remix out of it so will I get flagged if I upload it to CZcams and Facebook??
NigelPeter Chyne depends on the acapella
chrp90 thanks
plz do a track submit video
Sylenth1 arp preset! 🙌
The other thing I can suggest is, Man You Got The HookUp...you KNOW Others! Plus Youre In Dusseldorf! You Got those Two things going for You! Use it to your best advantage. I wish I had more contacta & I live 35 miles SE of Chicago, but in a town of only approx 180,000 People...And Our Economy here is Not great...And The Music things here are "Clickish"...kinda gotta be on the Click, in other words, People, Musicians etc are NOT out here trying to Promote and Connect like they ought to be especially NOT Connect with Other Musicians & Studios etc on an Individual Basis...What Im saying is that I dont have a Buddy even that joins me. Its solo for me because of it. I dont like it BUT You have Connections. SO ..have you though of PARTNERING UP with Someone you Know, Like, can get along with & TRUST? If so YOU Two or more, Ought to PARTNER UP. Do You have A Buddy In The Same Similar Situation Youre In?! Then Yous ought to Partner Up & START That Music Business...of whatever it is. Please allow me to get starightforward with you here, so I say; Respectfully; ......Come on Man, lets get serious. Say to Yourself, "Failure Is NOT An Option". falling Back Is NOT an Option"...and Move Forward Brother. You CAN Do it Jon! REMEMBER, Look on my Yotube Cover Photo & You'll see the Words, "You CAN Do It!" And So CAN I !.....God Bless & Best Wishes Jon
What is your management doing about the situation with the labels? Isn't this part of their job?
Hi Jon! You should offer some music production lessons on your local area. That´s what I am doing to support my music career, in my country I make something around $500 USD every month out of lessons and it only takes a few hours a week. You should try that. Hope you recover from that.
Gozzo Music where you do lessons at?
I'm not sure if this will help, ultra music are seeking artists for their roster via reverbnation. Regards Rebecca
lol the best friends to have. let's get wasted
Having a mixing/mastering company is cool. You can have costumers that pay for your services... But Doing it for patron donor's will NOT be fine... Lets say 3000 people donate. Are you going to do mastering for the 3000 people? Because it will be dishonest if you don't. You shouldn't have such a huge reward for donations. Just some form of thanks. It is a donation after all. Don't offer anything in return. Please, It will really make things complicated. You have a nice following. I'm sure people will support you regardless. I'm just thinking of you. Having the pressure to do something because you accepted a DONATION will end badly for you. But seriously though. We will donate and support. Really enjoy your content, it is reward enough. I hope you understand what I am trying to tell you. Patron isn't a bad thing. We live in times where it exists for a reason. Letting us pay you something for bringing entertainment is great. Like church in a way. Sure no one has to pay, but many want to!
we will support you, so you can have a hobby.
@13:58 Apple died with Steve Jobs.

You could also be careful about how you spend your money...
you have good song, why dont u try to contact SpinninRecords. It's a big big label, so i guess they pay artist at the time. Cheers.
yeah maybe in the future but at the moment not interested signing anywhere else got my own label now
Jon Sine i would like to be a part of your project. Not searching for money, just for a label.
