    EDIT: My mistake it was in a special Inside Star Citizen segment at the end of last year.

    Imo, in terms of Naval composition, the Javelin is the equivalent of a battleship, the Idris a heavy cruiser, and the Polaris is a destroyer. So, the Polaris would operate on the perimeter of a capitol fleet where it can take advantage of its speed and maneuverability, I doubt it would be wise for a Polaris to get into a protracted fight with an Idris alone unless it really gets the jump on it.

  • @NerdyWolff
    @NerdyWolff Před 4 měsíci +1

    Just gonna quickly say, great video keep it up. But keep in mind the Polaris isn't meant to stay in fights for sustained periods of time, its a get in deal big damage get out type of ship. The turrets are mainly for defence. Also the Polaris wont be able to easily take out the Idris because it will have the PDS (Point Defence Systems) that will fend off the missiles, what the Polaris will do is come in and finish off the Idris once some other capital ships and fighters have disabled the PDS or at least have it distracted, so that the missile will finish it. This means the Polaris is only useful in groups such as, 3 F8Cs as direct impact fighters to deal shield damage (Most effectively with distortions) then you would have a few light fighters to go in quickly and take out the PDS then you would come in with the Polaris and volley some Size 10s at it, then we have big boom.

    EVERY capital ship from 890j upwards in size should have a built-in point defense system
    As far as I remember CIG intended to make EM and IR signature matter; simple explanation: the smaller your signature the easier it is to distract missiles or torpedos with countermeasures
    In that case, larger ships don't just have the space to house a point defense system (in a world with energy weapons you only need the gun, a cooling system and capacitors connected to the energy grid to work) it's also necessary. Because of their large signature they have almost no chance to distract missiles with flares of chaff
    Point Defense is something on the list they want to implement into the game however we don't know anything about it yet since they also didn't announce any change about how signatures work and matter more
    This wouldn't just change how large ships work but would also give stealth fighters like the sabre a unique role of an ambush predator

    on the subject of missiles irl being flared easily, its not true, if we were to look at the aim9x and the R73 (modernised) they are extremely hard to flare and can somewhat do a 180 to hit its target, only way to defeat those missiles *somewhat* reliably is by constantly pre-flaring, so to an extent SC missiles are accurate to not being defeated by flares everytime

Ik Kraken is from Drake (so cool looking), Polaris Bengal and Pegasus are all RSI (as well as Retribution but that will never be in player hands), Javelin and Idris is Aegis. I would really like to see another by Drake (Im biased), and definitely some alien themed ones eventually. MISC, Crusader Industries, Anvil Aerospace, and Consolidated Outland all should have a capital ship. Each of them have military focused ships, with the exception of MISC but they could make a more industrial capital ship specifically for a fleet of smaller cargo ships

I look at it as an LCS with a lot of Baltic navy style missile frigate mixed in. Lots of flexibility and generalization with some heavy anti cap mixed in. The Idris is more of a dedicated combat platform with its flexibility coming more with what you bring in your hanger. If you can afford one or two ships get a Polaris. I don't think there's any question that the Polaris is more value for the price, especially when factoring in the maximum Warbond CCU discounts in a chain. Whereas the Idris can only be bought standalone and needs another $250 to actually have it combat-ready out of the gate with the K-upgrade. Though the K-upgrade does provide 4 PDS turrets, which should knock out some torpedo threats, similar to a CIWS.
    When you're in a fight, though, you aren't really thinking about how much of a deal you got. You want to have the equipment to win the fight and unless the Polaris can catch the Idris completely with its pants down, I think the Idris wins that fight in most cases. The 3x larger hangar also provides more utility as a base of operations.
    The Idris is over double the price of the Polaris and that price should have some justification.

    They both have their uses in the grand scheme of things, the Polaris is like an attack submarine its make to dump its torps and run where as the Idris is built for a sustained fight. But that being said, the Polaris seems like it could be very dangerous, its meant to punch up and kill ships like the Idris, its going to be faster than the Idris (though less armored, shields will 100% be capital size on the Polaris since its around 200 meters now) so it may be the one dictating the engagement with its speed. Other ships that can keep up with the Polaris may not be big enough to be a threat. Expect maybe the retaliator or multiple Aries.

      the idris-k upgrade kit actually have 4 pds, it is automated. one thing I realized that pds might be only available for size-4 and below. which I dont think the kraken have. size-4 weapon and below weapon are so much more effective against small target due to faster projectile speed,
      with heavy armor, counter measures and those pdses, I think the idris will have good defense against torpedo. kraken not so much. also for every javelin side turret, there is a duel size 4 for taking down fighters and potentially torpedo's. I actually think jav is a hard counter to a small group of polaris.
      I think the idris is a more well rounded ship comparing to other caps due to the mix of size 4 and size 5s, the kraken have size 5 and size 6 makes it rely on escort fighter, polaris is a glass cannon. and jav is just in another class.

    Technically in reality there are missiles that don't respond to flares at all because of the way they track. The reason for this is not all missiles track heat. They track movement. I think they do a maneuver called notching to dodge these which is turning perpendicular to the missile because the missile is tracking if something is getting closer/farther away in relation to the ground and when you turn perpendicular you get lost because you are no longer getting closer to or farther away from the missile in relation to the ground. I'm not sure this is a 100% accurate description, but it is something along those lines. I believe with todays missiles though flares are not really all the effective because the tracking on the missiles have gotten smart enough to distinguish them from the real target.

    Missiles in real life actually do have anti countermeasure systems and for gameplay purposes they probably shouldn't be implemented. Even older missiles from the 80s such as AIM-9Ms can turn the seeker off periodically and fly straight to later reacquire the intended target. The best way to dodge this kind of missile is to employ counter measures and change direction of travel, if not you'll be where the missile was pointed when the seeker head turns back on. Later missiles like the AIM-9X are extremely hard to countermeasure. No salt I just wanted to share what I know about these things. Great vid!

    better video actually comparing capitals with capitals. and very good point with the ciws. and they are going to apply stuff like that in starcitizen. but the entire blade and drone team have been assigned to ai script, ai crew, and ai pathings. so after we get ai crew members and ai passenger transports. then the teams will revert back to their prior tasks. where drones are for scanning, attacking, and resource tracking tools eventually. and blades will be part of computer modulations. so each computer s1 will have 1 blade slot, computer s2 will have 2 blade slots, computer s3 will have 3 blade slots, ect. and you can assign a computer to a task, then the blades act as modules for that established task.
    for instance if a turret station is a remote turret. that turret has computer access which requires manual control of the remote stations. however because it is functional threw a computer system. you can set a computer to that established turret. then the blades can run modified commands such as auto target missile auto target hostile ship, auto target all hostile. so that is 1 blade type. if you run a 2nd blade type auto fire on lock on targeting. then you have 2 blades on 1 computer assigned to 1 remote turret. that 1 remote turret is now automated with 2 blades and the use of 1s2 computer. this is all future stuff. but that setup is very much like ciws.
    where most missiles have a top launch to top hit trajectory. something like the perseus top turret with 2s2 guns can run something like pyroburst s2 guns x 2. and being a remote station, you can do this very exact thing. prioritizing the top pyroburst for missile defense. then the rear guns could be placed with defcon mine layers again a remote gun so when a ship or craft of hostile nature trys to approach the rear of the perseus you can automatically dispense mines as a point of defense.
    so they will have these things in game. but not till after ai crew is finished. not till interactive computers are finished. and not till various blade commands are written as lootables and craftables.

    I have flown the eclipse and tally. Taking out a HH was super easy with one missile and a fly by. I imagine a Polaris can do the same and drop 2 s10 from close range and I am guessing 2 would take out an Idris or seriously damage it.
    I also agree on CIWS but leave it automated and is better at taking down large torps and smaller missiles would be harder to hit.
    As far as spending my money, I do not want a ship as larger as a Polaris. My biggest ship right now will be a Perseus. I am willing to go a little larger, but I think 125m to 135m is my limit. Like I love the Kraken. I will never own one due to needing to crew it.

    honestly, i would like a small capitol ship about the size of the Polaris, remove the hangar, have 2 dual size 6 turrets(one on top and bottom) 2 quad size 4 turrets (on either side near the rear), and take that size 10 gun from the idris (or even a size 9 or two size 8s) and mount it centrally. that would be my dream capitol ship. sadly, the idris and polaris both seem, to me, to be trying to do too much and id rather have a dedicated brawler that wont take 20+ crew to operate, i.e. the Javelin.

    • @MrClassytangerine
      @MrClassytangerine Před 6 měsíci +1

      Lore wise the polaris replaced the Idris and they were both used as multi role force projection often on their own so "trying to do too much" is kindof their thing. If you want more specialised gunships the Perseus and hammerhead are your go-to.
      What you are proposing would replace pretty much every gunship and is trying to do too much in its own right. 4xs6 and a size 10 plus anti fighter turrets in a small frame is insanely overpowered compared to any other gunship

    if i had the money and crew i'd go Idris as a ship it feels more self reliant just looking at it and the stat page we can asume with confidense it will be more beefy. The amount of sustained fire power with turrets and railgun. The Polaris will hopefully be able to deal high burst damage in salvos that unless countered with turret fire and other counter mesures will give it a large advantage if succesful. Though i think it will be more vunerable to similar attacks on itself. Smaller ships like the Retaliator, Eclipse and Ares or gunships like the Redeemer will have a more favourble matchup being able to close distance and abuse the lower turret count.

    The 890 does have missile defense on the rear it's just not in game yet. It will come in with AI blades so 2 CIG years maybe. The Polaris hasn't had mention of missile defense but I think the Idris does?
    I honestly disagree Polaris vs Idris would not be close combat situation. It's best the Idris stays at a distance as 1 hit from that front gun will seriously hurt a Polaris and it's really hard to dodge that thing as it's near instant hit. It wouldn't cripple the Polaris as a Carrack can take a hit with 2 large shields granted it loses them instantly. It would force the Polaris to withdraw for at least a minute for them to come back up.
    I'm going to guess with how easy it is to evade missiles and torps today that the Idris will be able to dodge them if it see them early enough. I've been able to dodge size 9 torps with a reclaimer and the Idris handles way better.
    I'm sticking with the Polaris as you can't CCU to an 890 or larger and I'm not melting my packs just for a single ship.

  • @user-dg5pu6gt1v
    @user-dg5pu6gt1v Před 6 měsíci

    For me it actually comes down to operating costs. both in crew and uec. for the polaris, those size10s are going to cost a lot of credit.
    On the other hand, idris size 10 weapon is much cheaper to operate. but it is much heavier on the crew requirement.
    so I think, if you have ways to make lot of auec. go for the polaris. if you are in an org and have a lot of friends go for the idris. I really dont like having a Polaris and have no credit to use the torps, or having a lot of fighters and have no crew to fly them.
    Personally, I like the nautilus, but it is so overpriced. the thing with nautilus, it is a uec maker. CIG said there will be mine sweep missions. which means. nautilus mines are basically free. for someone that is trigger happy like I am, it is a good thing.

  • @ro0140
    @ro0140 Před 6 měsíci

    Too effectively crew the Idris you need more Crew than 8 persons.
    It also has a lot more beds then people think.
    The last posted number of beds was that It has 13 sets of bunks for a total of 26 beds.
    According to CIG This would means that a full-sized crew with "hot bunking" can be as high as 78 sailors, marines and pilots. Also the Idris will be very hard to kill in the future never mind what we have seen of the Idris to date. It will have better working shield and a lot of armor and with the guns really up and running and not with those AI's shooting.
    That said there are Point Defense Turrets planned.
    I believe they mentions that the Phoenix has one at the rear and BMM has two automated turrets on the underside of its hull and they will shoot down Missiles and Torpedoes.
    Also Turrets who are slaved to a blade can be automated to shoot certain targets like Missiles and Torpedoes or ships I believe that the prio of target could be set but we will have to see.
    Off course a manned turret can also shoot down missiles and torps.
    That said Chris Roberts didn't want any AI in game so there is Lore that AI got out of control and is now banned.
    Polaris and Idris are 2 complete different ships they have different Roles and how you fight the ship.
    Now the Polaris is a Rapid First Strike craft it will try and kill Capital ships it has no staying power. It has some shield be almost no armor. It's main goal is get in and get out ASAP while firing some of its Tier 10 Torps it's numerous turrets are there to open a flight path towards the enemy Capital ship and to give it a possible survivability when trying to get out of the combat zone.
    Where the Idris is pretty Slow it needs a battle group to really shine and engage the Enemy.
    The Polaris it very Fast and can engage the Enemy solo.
    But as you said both ships are not yet out and we will have to see what CIG decide to do.
    There was already a change in the Polaris design they showed it a bit in the greybox vid of the Polaris at CitizenCon. We can see one 4 Gun Turret and a Missile Turret with 2 Missile rack both in the rear of the Polaris pointing back. Probably to cover the rear of the ship when it disengages from battle.
    It might even be that they changed the front turret layout also with less guns.
    So it is still up in the air.

    Here's the first question you ask when someone says "Is it better?"
    Question is: "Better at what?"
    Is an Eclipse better than an Idris because it can kill one? I'd expect everyone to say no, because no, it isn't. That's what the eclipse's role is. The Polaris' role is...a corvette to take out Vanduul capships. The Idris' role is a frigate, to kill other caps, and provide fighter support to its fleetmates. If you hit a Polaris with the Exodus, you kill it in two hits. You hit it with the M's mass driver? Polaris go *_pop!_* too. They can both kill the other. The Idris is for bigger fleets. Its the tomahawk cruiser to the torpedo destroyer.
    "Why do the others not have CIWS?" Good question. It may get added. CIWS shouldn't be manned, it should be automatic, but that'd make ships with it borderline unkillable. That'd nullify the role of the Eclipse, or the Polaris too. It can't have it due to game balance. The Polaris is basically the poor man's idris, pretty much. Plus, the Idris railgun shell and laser can't be shot down, and can't be flared/chaffed. They may also be hitscan, but idk yet.
    Love your idea on the Fury squadron, ahahaha, 10/10. FURY BEES. You're still spot on with how the Idris will kill a polaris and how they do _not_ want to get into a knock-down, drag out fight. Polaris is meant for anti-capital hit-and-run, launch four torps or fire two pairs of them, and guarantee yourself a kill. Hell, maybe they'll eventually put cross section torps into the game too, and not need to worry about flares. I've gotten myself a Polaris, because I'll do better with the missiles than the mass driver, but a friend picked up an Idris and got the K modification, because of your exact idea on what happens if we get into a fight with someone in a Polaris, _if we get hit,_ we're dead anyway, even with the extra armor. The little bit of maneuverability and better fuel will be better in that situation, because if we see a Polaris show up and it launches a Scorpius instead of a Scorpius Antares or a Mantis, we're running from that.
    Forgive me for any misuse in terms, I was an MMN, not a GM.
