  • Today, I spent a little bit of time enjoying the Scottish scenery just a few miles from my house and answered a couple comments I've gotten on previous CZcams videos.
    I'm experimenting with trying to be a little more creative with my videos instead of just standing in front of the camera and talking, let me know what you think! I'm working on coming out of my shell and have a bunch of videos I'll be putting out in the coming months and (hopefully) years! If you have any questions about life in the UK, moving to Scotland, or anything else please leave a comment and I'll try to respond to as many as I can!
    If the content was helpful and you’d like to help support the channel, here's a link to buy me a coffee! ☕️

    Dude, I just stumbled on your channel today planning our May trip to Scotland. Loving this stuff. I've been twice and your assessments is very similar to mine. I'm just jealous you were able to move there. Keep these videos coming. Valuable stuff.

    Great video! I am beginning the process of pursuing a UK work visa through my company. So your videos are always a joy to watch when I am knee deep in paperwork, plans, and red tape and I need a reminder of the “why” that my family and I are doing this. Thanks for sharing your story and your little corner of Scotland with us!

    That was a lovely calming walk with you through the Scottish countyside, so thanks for taking us along!
    A quick note on Post Codes. In most places the same Post Code will apply to up to about 20 houses on the same street, and so if giving someone your address you have to give them both the Post Code and your house number for an exact location.

    • @peterkonradort
      @peterkonradort  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yes it definitely does vary by location and I’m assuming if you’re somewhere like London for example where you have a bunch of flats in massive buildings it might be harder, but regardless a postcode will at least get you most of the way there whereas a zip code in the states isn’t anywhere close lol

      @@peterkonradort Yes- a large block of flats would have it's own post code, and you would then specify the flat number.
      I hadn't realised till watching that US Zip Codes were so large an area.

    I have a question. What's that little thing you're using to record the audio with??

    • @peterkonradort
      @peterkonradort  Před 3 měsíci +2

      It’s the DJI mic 2 and one of the reasons I bought that specific camera. Basically it automatically connects to the camera whenever I turn it on and I don’t have to faff around with any adapters or receivers, and it records a backup of the audio internally. In one of these video clips the audio actually cut out for a few seconds but it wasn’t a problem because I just downloaded the backup from the mic and manually replaced the original audio that the camera recorded.
      Technically you’re meant to stick the microphone under your shirt or clip it to your jacket or something but I didn’t feel like taking the time to set it all up so I just clipped it to the camera case and held it in front of me lol

    I'm not sure about this - might be worth checking in at the pharmacy, but I think you can get calpol on the minor ailments scheme (i.e free)

    • @peterkonradort
      @peterkonradort  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes someone just told me about that recently so I need to check it out! The only problem is it would most likely be off-brand and even though they’re all the same, the kids refuse to take it if it isn’t the exact same pink colour and flavour of calpol 😂

    Thanks for sharing this. This..THESE S kind of videos are why I love watching and look forward to watching them. I know it took you a while lol but so glad you are getting your life and self together and in some sort of order so you can post more content. I know you are going through some personal challenges and times. Totally understandable. I am looking still working on my journey to get there and move. It won't happen till next year. So right now I am getting my paperwork in some legal stuff for me. The same time looking at when to get my cat microchipped at least three months before my actual move date along with his rabies shots the same day of the chip or after it. I have a question about the rents there in Scotland. Besides the monthly rent and water and lights and maybe a TV tax. what is the council tax and how do they collect that there. would it be one time or broken down into 11months? Also does anyone in Scotland own an AC there? lol I am an AC person. I will need it in humid places especially. I'm in Chicago right now and I'm loving the crazy up-and-down weather and especially the cold. So I think I'll be okay in Scotland. lol thanks for your answers to the questions asked. Have a great week and weekend!

      Thank you!
      Think of council tax as kind of like state or local tax. It covers things like schools, roads, rubbish collection, water (in Scotland; in England you have to pay a water bill), etc.
      Council tax is charged yearly but you can usually choose to either pay for the year, or pay in monthly instalments. There also might be some discounts you could get based on how many people live in the home, if you’re on low income, etc.
      I’ve never met anyone here that has an AC, but I also don’t know many people lol. But even new build houses will pretty much never come with AC. Even heating isn’t central heating; one of my biggest gripes about houses here is that they use radiators and many houses (at least older ones like mine) don’t even have thermostats so it’s pretty much impossible to have a consistent temperature inside.

    • @AliciaGonzalez-zn8ci
      @AliciaGonzalez-zn8ci Před 3 měsíci

      @@peterkonradort OH ok understood. And wow with no AC, not even the hotels? lol I noticed that too while researching for the past 3 years at rentable homes and flats old fashion is the best way to describe Scotland homes. but that is its charm which I fell in love with. If and when I get there, I would look like I have 5 heads if I request the owners to have a window AC lol I even thought about a portable one this way it does not do any structural damage to the building from it being in the window frame (vibrations etc) How does Scotland survive when they get high summer temperatures? the wind will be hot as well! lol And it's global warming so I don't think the winters will be around much probably more warmer temps in the future. sigh. I want to live closer to the shore and further up north. For cooler temps but then ..there are the midges! lol lol So I guess I will know for sure by early next year before May 2025 what I want to do. I banking on my job approving a transfer that will set the moving ball rolling. And it will have to be on a work visa allowing me at least 3yr stay without having to extend my visa every 6 months. That is another long bridge I will need to make sure I can cross. thanks again for your insight and info. truly appreciated. Again you were the very first video I watched when I was interested in moving to Scotland in the future. So glad you are back with more content. I hope the kids are doing well and everyone is settled in. Best wishes and God bless.

    • @peterkonradort
      @peterkonradort  Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@AliciaGonzalez-zn8ci if it’s a major hotel chain they’ll probably have a window AC unit. If it’s a mom and pop type of hotel, they probably won’t 😂
      In the area that I live it doesn’t get too bad. Maybe for a week or two we’ll have a really bad heat wave and it’ll be 80 degrees or maybe 85 if it’s really boiling hot. Those weeks are fairly miserable but you just keep your windows open, get some fans (ceiling fans don’t exist here though) and spend as much time outside as you can lol
