    My wife and I just returned from Scotland yesterday. We began our journey in Edinburgh, then to Inverness, Thurso, Torridon, Isle of Skye and back to Edinburgh. I thought that the exact opposite about the trash reference. All the small towns we visited offered trash bins that segregated trash & recycling. I will note that they generally were full, which gives credit to the notion of not being emptied frequently. Even with that, we found that all towns were very tidy and properly kept. Your mention of safety could not be more true. It is one of the reasons my wife and I are considering the move over there. The folks there are extremely welcoming and are unpretentious. I believe it is because they are not spending their days juggling a costly extravagant fancy high lavish lifestyle that creates emotional exhaustion and overloaded stress as a byproduct. It was evident that many of these small towns were filled with wealthy residents; however, it was not their purpose for you to notice. You mentioned the drinking water, but I would add the quality of air. It was incredibly crisp, clean and easy to breath. We power-walked some amazing trails (very much like the one you show in your video) and never really felt short of breath. So many positive mentions I could add, but will end it here. Adding some of my vacation pics on my instagram (@westernchicano) Thanks for your post! Cheers!

    In Cheshire, years ago when we had only one bin the council bin men collected it every week and the bin was full. We now have three bins. 1) green or brown bin for garden, vegetables and greens waste, 2) grey bin for recyclable plastic, metals, paper etc and 3) black bin for other rubbish. The bin men still arrive every week but collect bins 1 and 2 one week and bin 3 the following week.

    Excellent work and thanks for sharing! Although my wife and I do well in the US as middle class, watching videos like this makes me feel how we get ripped off as Americans. I watch videos of people living in Russia of all places and see their food prices are almost half of what we pay and the quality is much better. I’m sure there are some sacrifices leaving the US, but it appears the upside outweighs the quality of life and as others have said the crime rate would be much lower in Scotland.

      What astounds me (being British) is the USA is supposed to be a model of free enterprise but there seems a lack of serious competition i.e. monopolies as Peter says. I have a friend who lives near Cleveland, OH and she was amazed by the British cheap airline prices to Europe. I can fly from my local airport (in northwest England) to Amsterdam for as little as £25 one way. The cost varies by the day of the week and time of day. There appears to be no such deals available from Cleveland airport for a similar distance within the US. I've also come across the ban on certain imports (i.e. trucks) to the USA forcing the US customers only to buy what's produced locally (whether good, bad or indifferent). As for Scotland, you've got to appreciate winters have little daylight, are usually very wet and windy (the UK has a similar position to southern Alaska). Many other UK benefits: work full time and the minimum vacation time by law is 28 days, if you are an employee you never need to fill in a tax form and your pay is paid tax deducted. No hire and firing at a whim allowed. There has to be a serious reason to fire someone and usually they have to have a verbal warning and a written warning first. Workers' rights are taken very seriously.

    You realise that you can make the US biscuits and Gravy really easy in Scotland according to a demonstration I saw on CZcams the other night. I suddenly realised that the gravy was really a Rue base used to make sauces but using sausage or bacon fat instead of butter and with the sauce unfinished. The biscuits are a uk scone recipe just unfinished rough baked . Nothing actually special. It was probably what the cattle men had to make on the trail because it was easy to do.

    I am a regular visitor to Scotland and the quality of the tap water is usually much better than anywhere in England, particularly urban areas. I think a lot of it is to do with how far the water comes from the reservoir to the tap. Many reservoirs are in hilly northern or western areas. When I go back to the Midlands Leicester water mostly comes from large reservoirs in the Peak District, sixty miles further north. The water is palatable but not pleasant to drink. London water is even worse, and I don't know where it comes from. I live in a small town in the West Country and the source of the water is very local, and while hard, it is very good.

    Freedom to roam- the individual freedom to walk where you want in Scotland is better than England, and that is a league better than in the US. Indeed, there is no law of trespass in the UK, and it (except in special cases such as military bases) is covered by civil and not criminal law.

  • @ravenprice6112
    @ravenprice6112 Před měsícem

    Always be aware that threats exist, regardless of where you live. I went to England last year and I was terrified being there on country roads with no protection. I had the time of my life, don't get me wrong, and I will be moving there in August, but threats are everywhere, whether weapons are legal or not. The Yorkshire Ripper, for example, who thankfully is no longer with us. But it is an example of why having laws against weapons is pointless. An unarmed population is a vulnerable population. There several decades of peace time that Britain has had has allowed the people to believe they may never have to defend themselves. There is a reason why Putin (I believe it was him) said he would never invade Texas. Because the people are armed and ready to defend their country. I understand what you are saying and there are so many places in the states that are SO dangerous, with those being the states with high regulations on guns ironically. It's not a gun problem, its a mental health problem. The states with the most legal gun owners are the safest states with the lowest crime. Always be aware of your surroundings and don't assume because a weapon is illegal, that the person doesn't have one. Many drugs are illegal, and they are everywhere.

    It didn’t used to be so bad with bins. We paid our taxes and everyone had a bin lift at the very least one a week, sometimes even twice. Over time the councils have been paying themselves huge pay rises and our taxes are used to pay their fat pensions too. While all the time they have reduced the services to the whole population and at the same time reduced jobs and still keep increasing taxes.

    "There's trash everywhere" This seems to be a recent phenomenon. I'm not bullshting when I say that (in Edinburgh anyway) before the SNP came to power the streets were CLEAN! Once a week people would put out black bin bags in the morning - which were supplied to EVERY home by the council - they'd be collected the same day, and for the rest of the week it would be unusual to see rubbish. No fly tipping, no streets full of rubbish. But since then due to 'environmental reasons', rubbish was collected less and less often, fly tipping increased, the streets became a mess. 'Environmental reasons' is just the councils term for 'let's not collect rubbish'.
