Have you ever heard of the Satellaview? This was a Super Nintendo, or Super Famicom attachment that could receive games via satellite, and it's a really cool bit of niche Nintendo history. This includes a song transition from the Super Mario Bros. flagpole fanfare to an unexpected song from the 80s. I hope that you enjoy! I've had this video idea in the back of my brain and I wanted to try a shorter, yet still formal and informative format for video essays, so let me know if you enjoyed this. I love talking about niche gaming history or oddities like the Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga infinite coins Easter egg, so if you enjoy these videos I'll be happy to do more of them. Also subscribe if you liked this haha, I've been working on a longer project that I'm very proud of and I'm hoping to have out soon. Thanks for watching :)
Here is a link to Kukun kun's archives of Satellaview games, go check it out and maybe leave a like or a subscribe for their great preservation efforts: • BSスーパーマリオUSA パワーチャレンジ 第1回
I originally heard this transition in Jan Misali's "how many Super Mario games are there?" video, which is really cool and good and you should check it out if you haven't seen it yet: • how many Super Mario g...

Thanks for watching! What’s your favorite bit of niche gaming trivia?

I don't know if it's niche, but I have a lot of useless knowledge about gen 2 Pokemon games.

Bold of you to release this right after Citra and Yuzu went into the grave. Preservation is the last thing on Nintendo's mind, so these types of spotlights on obscure things they did are always a delight to see. Speaking of obscure gaming trivia, how about that Mario Party-e video? I know the fans are dying to hear more about that gem, obviously.

yeah, man RIP to citra especially since 3DS games are no longer being sold digitally and there’s a lot of potential for great games to be lost to time. Thanks for watching!! I love shining whatever spotlight I can on little oddities like this, and I am one of probably very few people who actually owns Mario Party-e so who knows, maybe it’d be a good thing to cover in this format lol

@@marksrecroomYou own Mario Party -e as well? That makes two of us! We're a rare breed, indeed.

Yuzu kinda deserved it, for having paid subscriptions, existing while the switch is still the current console and one thing more about unreleased games and patches. Such a shame that bringing down yuzu meant bringing down citra.

You say strangest, but that would have been perfect for Mario's Time Machine.

Satellaview stuff is very interesting and cool to watch, maybe you could take about a trivia for the E-Reader too.

Gee, that IS a strange song transition... but I still really like it. I applaud the efforts people have made in preserving the Satellaview's catalogue of titles, and I hope one day the games showcased here are fully restored, music and all!

I would've loved to have played the Satellaview during the original broadcast, as I'm a sucker for 80s pop music, especially new wave. I remember watching that original video and they also played Duran Duran's A View to a Kill iirc, which is one of my fav songs ever. However that'd only happen if I were a time traveller, considering I was born in 1996, so during the original broadcast I was just a li'l baby! Also, not sure if you're aware, but that flagpole remix is part of a full song from an arrange album released in 1989 called Super Mario Brothers 1. 2. 3. -Hop! Step! Jump!-, of which you can hear its songs being used throughout some Satellaview footage. Its arrangements are absurdly good, especially if you're into 80s music like I am, so I heavily recommend checking that album out!

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes. But when Sports came out in ‘83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically.

Pffft. Do you have any idea how many INXS songs I've rewritten to be about Pokémon? I suspect either Nintendo or St. Giga had some sort of blanket license for broadcasting music. Not sure why it seems to be primarily western acts.
