66 years after Fred Astaire ´n´Lucille Bremer made Ziegfeld Follies, John Wilson with his magic, brought us to the Proms 2011 this wonderful and unforgettable moment of light music ´n´ dancing (in our imagination), for those who don´t lived those years like me. Thank you very much Mr John Wilson, you are a very good conductor and a magician, and very young. (I´m 25 years old)

They REALLY don't make them like that any more...I have loved this song since a little girl. From Ziegfeld Follies, Fred Astaire and Lucille Bremer, sigh.
This is quite literally taken from the score, I can see those fabulous costumes for this number, and the dancing! Rent it, I know you'll love it..

Such a spectacular rendition of this under-recognised masterpiece by an under-recognised master of music. Harry Warren wrote over 800 songs, with more on the Hit Parade than even Irving Berlin. His output of unforgettable contributions to the Great American Songbook dwarfed his contemporaries. Many thanks to John Wilson and his Orchestra for so brilliantly bringing this to life again.

  • @l0jack

I discovered the art of John Wilson and his orchestra about a year ago and accidently ran across this song while searching for anything he had posted to CZcams. While I had heard of the Ziegfeld Follies, I had never listened to any of the music until I encountered this. It is now one of my favorite arrangments and since then I've watched the original dance with Fred Astair and Lucille Bremer. Even though this song originated before my time, I have come to appreciate the music and productions of the 30's, 40's and 50's at a time before electronics could mask imperfections and what you saw was what you heard. I could listen to this 1,000 times and would love to see John Wilson in concert playing the many musical scores he's brought back to life and made available, I hate to admit it, thanks to the modern technology of the internet and CZcams!

Composers: Lyrics, Arthur Freed ~ Music by Harry Warren (Salvatore Guaragna) .b. Brooklyn 1893 - died Los Angeles 1981. Eleventh and youngest child of an Italian immigrant family. He was influenced by Puccini to name a few. Self taught on piano and accordion as a boy.

It is beautifully realised. John Wilson is so careful with his original arrangements and mindful of this particular canon. Very good singing by Matthew Ford. Match this against the Ziegfield Follies original. These concerts are some of the real Proms highlights now. The orchestra is superb - and they seem to really love the music and enjoy playing it.

The Hollywood musicals produced some of the best music the world has ever know.
It is up to the likes of BBC TV to reveal them to this later generation as at the proms.
However with the weird people now at the BBC you will get nothing but "yoof trash and cooking. They own the whole library of RKO films which consists of many musicals, do they ever play any? No. On the rare occasions something is shown, about every 5 years, it is always Fred and Ginger. There were many others with talent.
