  • As your boost levels go up, a Water to Air intercooler is one of the best ways to keep those intake temps down!
    Low pressure drop and high efficiency is why this is a great option for any boosted engine.

    Have a look a Julian Edgar videos on running the water pump based on throttle position. When in no to low boost the pump does not run so the water sits in the front radiator staying cool until you hits the throttle then the pump starts & hits the cooler with cold water.

    Thanks for the video am purchasing a heat exchanger and pump now !!!

    Seems a good idea. It works well on ProCharger equiped drag cars, using ice. I think it might be easier to spray water onto the stock air to air sometimes. Didnt Subaru do just that on one model? So why dont they still do it.

    How about your version of application for the BMW S55 motor? (Which comes equipped from factory with this style charge cooler)

    How long will the pump last, and can a voltage regulator be used with it?

    The reason I'm down this rabbit hole: I have a '77 Datsun 620 and I refuse to fit a hideous front mount IC and ruin the looks of that classic face; but the KA24DE-T needs efficient cooling!

      That sounds like a great project! Hopefully we can contribute somehow!

    Are there AN adapters for those barbs on the pumps. Or do you have a pump with AN in and out.

    • @aeroflowperformance
      @aeroflowperformance  Před rokem

      We do have an adapter for 3/4" barb but we are looking at adding a new AN based pump in the future. The adapter is here: aeroflowperformance.com/af741-12-12blk-3-4-barb-to-12an-adapter

    What temps can this achieve ? Any dyno tests vs air to air?

    • @aeroflowperformance
      @aeroflowperformance  Před rokem

      Depending on the setup, ice used or size of water reservoir you could get down to single digits but even with the smallest core we see starting temps in the mid-teens and finishing in the 20s. This is all relevant to power level and efficiency of the setup but in comparison an air to air intercooler will rarely see below ambient temperatures

    I have a v8 audi s4 thatvi want to turbo..Can you tap into the factory coolant lines and use like a "Y" shaped fitting to run a -12n hose to the side mount? Or do i need to purchase the heat exchanger.. and if i need the heat exchanger does that get rid of my radiator or just sit in front of

    • @aeroflowperformance
      @aeroflowperformance  Před 6 měsíci

      You can utilise the factory cooling system however it will be much less efficient than a stand-alone system since the water/coolant will be already at regular engine operating temperature - and that is generally higher than ambient temp. We would recommend using a heat exchanger and yes you need to mount it in a location that has air flow

  • @urmasslow
    @urmasslow Před rokem +1

    So do you run the water pump inline and hook into your cars existing coolant system? Or is it a second designated cooling system entirely?

    • @aeroflowperformance
      @aeroflowperformance  Před rokem +3

      Generally it's better to have a separate system, as we described at the start of the video, for maximum performance. You can also run it from your engine coolant system although you may need a higher volume water pump to keep things moving

    • @tbas8741
      @tbas8741 Před 6 měsíci +1

      You can use the cars coolant system but then you are stuck with a minimum charge air temp of 90*C or the coolant temp that engine runs at even if its 0*C outside as cars coolant always run at same temp regardless of outside air temps (mostly).
      If you use a separate cooling system with its own coolant you can keep that coolant at ambient air temp or even lower if you add ice to the coolant or alcohol based coolant,
      allowing the charge air to be much lower, problem is once that seperate cooling system is heatsoaked then it looses effienciency but its still better than Air to air, Specially Top Mounts.
      But there is a lot of extra Weight, complexity and chance for things to go wrong with Water to Air.

  • @ALKATRAZ99

    Can you add a temp sensor to it?

    I have a Infiniti Q 60 I put a bigger intercooler on it and the temperature is about 10° above ambient temperature that’s as cold as I can get it. Is it about right

    • @aeroflowperformance
      @aeroflowperformance  Před 11 měsíci

      If you are still using the same amount of coolant in the system then it's probably about right. The surface area of the cooler is larger which will allow more heat transfer however if you don't have a larger capacity for fluid then the same amount of fluid is exposed to the same heat source for the same amount of time. I hope that makes sense!

  • @ltortur3rl
    @ltortur3rl Před 9 měsíci +1

    So is basicly the same you still need an extra radiator in front of your car... i will stick to air to air intercooler and shot it with some nos to cool it down if i want to drag race.. zero beneficial from doing this conversion for daily driving cars

    • @aeroflowperformance
      @aeroflowperformance  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Yes and no, the water to air is going to give you a much more consistent intake air temperature and the required area for the heat exchanger is generally smaller than an effective air to air cooler. Air to Air is definitely easier and less complicated to setup though

    Will one of these water to air intercoolers work properly on a diesel ? such as a ford 7.3 powerstroke. I all ready have an air to air but see egts over 1200 when towing, so I have to back out of the throttle. Thanks

    • @aeroflowperformance
      @aeroflowperformance  Před rokem +1

      Hi Kent, they will work no problem, you just need to size the core appropriately and have a large reservoir with heat exchanger to keep it consistent. There's only so much heat the water (or coolant) can take out before it needs to then be exchanged again in order to keep cooling for a long period of time.

    • @benrodriques
      @benrodriques Před 5 hodinami

      That's how I got here. They do make one now. Unless you have a separate water system for it it won't cool as much. Haven't found anything to compare tho.

    I have a car or SUV that has a factory Water to Air Intercooler.. Is that really better than an Air to Air ?

    • @aeroflowperformance
      @aeroflowperformance  Před 8 měsíci +1

      There's always pro's and con's for both but generally we find water to air is more consistent at most Ambient temperatures

    Thought it was great in my old patrol. Driving slow in low range i thought its not good for an air to air. But guess put a thermo fan on it . But now i got a 300 series and they come out with water to air stock.
