    The Smurl Family Haunting case is one of the most famous in history, and was investigated by Ed and Lorraine Warren. The case was active for 13 years (1974 -1987) on Chase Street in West Pittson, Pennsylvania.The Smurl family encountered something they couldn't explain, and couldn't free themselves of but there was never a doubt it was pure evil.

    I don't blame the Warrens for not wanting to show the videos... as someone who grew up in a church that rebuked evil spirits from people's homes, I have been told that spirits can latch onto weaker souls even through films if the spirit is that powerful.

      That’s nonsense, for the sake of science and and skeptics, you would release any kind of proof. Watching the news is bad enough if you want horror.
      Also, you can watch videos and hear tape recordings from the Enfield Poltergeist case on CZcams. There is loads about that case and you can hear the girl Janet talk in that scary voice and much more.
      The videos haven’t been released because they probably do not exist.

    When I was a teenager a friend borrowed me a film on vhs that apparently was banned in loads of country's. It was one of the scariest films I have ever watched and I've never been able to find it since but I swear it must have been based on this haunting because the part I always remember was when the mom who was called Janet was upstairs and heard her name being called in the basement and when she went down suddenly the voice was upstairs. I wish I could find it again because it was brilliant.

    I first saw a ghost when I was around 6 or 7. I was asked go through this old lady’s window to unlock her door. So in short her place was almost pitch black so I wondered around lost looking for the front. I ended up in her bedroom and I felt something in the room so I turned towards the bathroom and there was a figure of a man, full body and I could even see he had a hat on and could see his face. He didn’t say anything just pointed to the door. I weirdly enough felt complete calmness (I was of course scared at first but it quickly changed) and after he pointed I legit walked right to the front. I later told my mom what happened and she had told me that the woman’s husband had apparently passed recently. I’ve had people tell me Exaggerating or I’m lying, I’ll swear on anything I hold dear in my life that happened up in Glen Rock Pa.

    I've lived in CT all my life. My grandparents lived in Monroe - that's where the Warren's lived. The Warren's would do talks a few times a year, most times it was at a high school auditorium. I was lucky enough to see Lorraine at one of these talks. Unfortunately, Ed had already suffered his stroke. Their son-in-law kinda took Ed's place. I think Ed died the following year and as Lorraine got older she didn't do as many talks. I'm so glad I got a chance to see her.
    At the talk the played a recording of a demon during an exorcism......it was f@cking terrifying.

I am so glad to know they finally got help. This story has stayed with me all these years. I have thought of this family often. I 100% believe them because I saw the anguish in their faces. I just hope they know there were many people who did believe them.

    I've followed a lot of cases on the demonic and paranormal, heard a lot of details, and experienced my own personal haunting when I was a child... And this case is the SCARIEST and most violent case I have ever heard.
    And the reason why this whole thing started for them was due to them doing renovations on their home, as it disturbs dormant spirits and entities. And also, you're right Josh, demons enjoy torturing believers in Christ as it further solidifies their role in the destruction of morality. And also, benevolent spirits do not harm people. They can annoy them, like pushing things off counters or messing with lights. Malevolent spirits, will scratch you, destroy your property, target your children and rape you and your husband if it wants. Demons ain't no joke, and the activity described was definitely demonic.

    Lights out is quickly becoming my favourite podcast. I love the subjects you cover. The Warren's are a difficult one as there is a lot of stuff out there that makes them look fraudulent but in their what 50yr career. They helped hundreds of genuine people who the church had turned away and they did try to help. Yeah they got stories out of it but they put work in to get them and a lot of people felt the Warren's did good work and what ever bothered them stopped.

    • @alexlarsen6413
      @alexlarsen6413 Před 4 lety +3

      I love spooky stories as well, but yes...the Warren's are more than difficult and I'm way harsher on them than you are.
      Now, I'm honestly not sure if I'd go as far as to call them frauds as many people do - they might've really believed in what they were doing, as well as believed they were helping people. The problem is: they weren't. They did more harm than good through what I can only describe as a completely reckless and irresponsible approach.
      There's a solid reason why the church has strict rules around these issues.
      The Warren's never followed those rules, for them everything was demonic possession. In other words, if you trace their career, they literally never came across a case they DIDN'T think was supernatural and usually demonic.
      That really rubbs me the wrong way as in my opinion, there's nothing worse or more irresponsible than not just going along with a mentally ill person's narrative, but actively encouraging it. And I'm positive that most people they had come in contact with, were mentally ill.
      In fact, I'm convinced that had it not been for the Warren's, or had they behaved more responsibly - the whole: the Devil made me do it case, almost certainly wouldn't have gone that bad.
      Not a fan of Warren's at all, if you can't tell. :)

    • @cuddlemonster8979
      @cuddlemonster8979 Před 4 lety +3

      @@alexlarsen6413 You're quite right they probably did do more harm than good and most people they met may have had mental health issues but at the time mental health wasn't particularly well understood. I mean it had vastly improved but still not great. I wouldnt know if they did these cases for fame seeking or whatever and its possible that was exactly it. I'm simply saying there is a possibility they genuinely wanted to help but were so blinded by their beliefs that nothing could ever be explained by anything other than the devil.

    • @alexlarsen6413
      @alexlarsen6413 Před 4 lety +3

      @@cuddlemonster8979 Oh yeah...I agree, as I said it's possible they really believed it, hell it's even likely but I had the same experience learning about them as the guy in this video. You know when at the end he says: the more I learn about them, the more suspicious I am? Well, that was me, only way back during the time both of them were still alive and active.
      Ironically, I started out as their fan, but an old high school friend of mine was very skeptical about few of the cases and in the attempt to prove him wrong I started out researching their cases. Eventually, instead of convincing him that they were a good faith actors, I actually found even more problems than those my friend was pointing out.
      And there was always the same pattern repeating: wild claims about extraordinary evidence they'd supposedly captured on tape...except there was always an excuse not to provide that evidence.
      Additionally, whenever they'd appear somewhere, there was a newspaper circus following them and to me it appeared they loved it!
      Also, in later years they were heavily involved with Hollywood studios.
      I don't know what they were really about, but I do believe in the possibility of supernatural phenomena, however they ruined my faith in so many cases that nowadays whenever I hear of a case involving the Warren's, I mostly cringe away.
