I am an Indian doing my undergraduate degree in the UK. I have experienced racism once, when right after the Paris terrorist attacks, some old man yelled at me to go back to my country. He said that UKIP would make sure no Muslims would ever come back to the country. I said congratulations and walked on. He didn't stop, and tried to stop me from going to the shop. I simply kept walking all the way to the police station (like a 2 minute walk), and that guy stopped harassing me so quick and sheepishly ran away. He was clearly drunk (he had a drink in his hand). A few weeks later I saw that same guy, and he was walking up to me, and before he opened his mouth, I called out to the cops behind him and informed them about them situation, and he ran away again.
Moral of the story, when some moron comes and yells at you, don't look at him/her, ignore them. And if they keep keep going, call the cops. They are paid to protect you, so let them. Even as a tourist, you have rights, please use them.

Hey, that guy in the shorts trying to calm down the guy and was inbetween the family and the screaming man on the beach is my step dad. My parents were down there for vacation and my parents are both really conservative, but when my mom and stepdad saw this my step dad had to intervene because he doesn't believe in treating people like Ass holes! So proud of my parents right now. My mom even told the family she loved them regardless of their different beliefs.

I like to think of myself as pretty religious. I go to church twice a week, read my bible, listen to K Love, and live for Jesus. Now I didn't see the video of the guy playing Pokémon Go. Sure I find it a little disrespectful to be playing games in church, but the way the church responded is completely out of hand. We, as christians, aren't supposed to hate, we are supposed to respond with love. In my opinion he should've just been told not to be on his phone next time and that's that. And as for the guy on the beach, boy is he wrong about everything he says. He claims to be a Christian and then he straight cusses and hates on these other human beings. That is the opposite of Christianity. So please people, don't let these types of "Christians" affect your judgement of us all.

I'd say the youtuber is about 10% at fault because he played the game inside the church which is not public property. It's not a criminal offense that should be punished, but the church is within their rights to kick him off church property but that's about it.

Hi, Catholic here, I go to church every once in a while, however I've taken 2 honors level courses in school, (catholic high school.) While I sympathize for how the people in that church felt, it is practically walking in and saying fuck your set aside space for quietness, prayer and worship. The punishments for doing that should not exist. If someone does that, ok, forgive them. If they keep disrupting you, simply ban them. This is such an overreaction.

I come from a Christian Orthodox Russian family (I live in Canada though), and although I am from a religious family, they have never pushed their beliefs unto me, and have instead taught me that everyone should believe in what they want. As such, whatever you believe in should be so strong that it doesn't matter what others say. That's not to say you should be ignorant and simply ignore other beliefs, but religions are meant to bring peace, which should mean that religions are inherently meant to co-exist (even alongside non-believers). As part believer myself, a Russian, and from a Christian Orthodox family where my parents practice regularly (unlike me), I think what Sokolovsky did was idiotic, but in a lot of ways, I think the Church's response was even more stupid. LOL I mean c'mon, "Made me cry on the inside?"

I'm an atheist. But my two daughters' Girl Scout Troop is hosted by a local church. I take my hat off when I enter, I don't use my phone, and I don't try to discredit their beliefs. I understand that different religions all have different beliefs and some are quite extreme however that story makes that religion seem like a cult and are abusing their power to ruin someones life over something so trivial. Spreading hate against hate isn't the answer and should not belong in any religion. If someone does something hateful then they should show him the way and spread love to help him understand their beliefs.

As a Christian, I am so upset about Sokolovsky being arrested for simply playing Pokemon Go in a church. When it first came out, all teens at my church, along with our youth leader, went downtown to play Pokemon go together! We even had a couple of kids playing during service, since our church was a Pokestop. I thought the kids playing during the service was disrespectful, but no one should be arrested over such a thing.

I am religious, and proud to be, but when met with disagreements and criticisms to my faith, I have found it to be much more effective, if no more civilised to simply talk, or as Phil would say, have a conversation. These days you are not going to convince or even have any common ground with someone if you're shouting at them. What you do do is burn bridges, and paint a bad image of the religion you're trying to defend. Because even if most people should know not to associate an individual with the whole, it really doesn't help and can leave a lasting impression. So, I try my best to just talk with people, and to stop if it gets too heated.
