I think Azog's rules are a little bit broken. He killed 3 Good heroes like dogs. Great battle report. Your channel has very good content
Shoulda called a Heroic Strike every turn.
To be fair, he is around 200+ points when you give him the white warg and flail and armour

i think the same way as well, he was given a little bit to much, imo his flail should be the upgrade for the 3+ wound and the fight 7 should be reduce to f 6

Yes, Azog is ridiculously op, with such a strong profile he shouldn't have the master of battle rule. The rule where he gets more special rules for each kill should have been unique to Bolg

After his masterful display at Erebor where he interrupted the elves and dwarves killing each other to attack them and then somehow lose the battle despite his massivley superior numbers it's clear that he is one of middle earth's greatest generals. And thats not even mentioning him throwing the battle of Azanulbizar by deciding to duel Thorin, losing and casuing his army to rout.

@@ConquestCreations Hey man, put a compressor or a Limiter in your master Bus. That will help you manage Volume without too much micro management. There are good Tutorials how comps work but its pretty simple
The models are gorgeous! Well done on the paint job. P.s. though, heroic strike with the stone flail has no effect (been confirmed in the FAQ) it drops back down to 6.
And you have to say that you use it before the Fight

yes but this errata rule is very stupid in my opinion , because why shouldn't he be able to heroic strike with the stone flail ?
+ they also forget that the model struck by the flail is knocked prone

Loved it! Quite a rare case I guess, but I was just wondering if there is no possibility to attack a model that is standing on a small platform - for example the Rohan Warrior in the ruin (the guy who killed Azog).
I have not checked the rules (maybe there is like a "fight a barrier"-rule that can be applied) , but it feels a bit unnatural (apart from shooting and waiting until the model flees the battlefield) to have such untouchable models :)

Probably a controversial thought, but I think Legolas should have burned all his Might on the first turn to kill him (ended up needing to do it anyway later). Killing off a 100pt model with a roughly 100pt model seems worth spending the Might to "just do it".
I definitely agree with this. Especially becuase Azog's master of battle rule you want to avoid calling heroics where possible so its alright if you blow might to get important kills otherwise later on in the battle Azog might steal it from you

I think you used Azogs flail wrong twice when attacking with it he only goes to f6 and can't go any higher and I think he only does a single strike against everyone with the possibility of doing d3 wounds
I enjoyed the battle report. One technical thing that you could be improved is to decrease the volume on noise spikes (loud cheers in general) .

Why did you use troll brute instead of gundabad troll? D5 isnt the best.
And why the banner for gundabad? With F3 and some F4, you don't get much advantage to use it

I am a big fan of the troll brute. To start he is 20 points cheaper which at 500 points is a pretty big deal. His strength 10 hit when he charges can do a lot of damage if you manage to roll hot and with Azog's Master of battle you get to move first a lot so you get good use out of it. Fearless is also really nice on a big model
I do really like the Gundabad troll as well and have one of the models but its a bit more predictable than the Brute. I don't think its better or worse but is very different. You mainly want Gundabad trolls hunting heroes with its crushing club and in my list becuase I already have Azog I filled that spot.
I don't leave home with out a banner. In every single list that has the option for a banner I will always take one. They make a massive difference to your odds of winning the fight even if you have a lower fight value and having it on a unit like Azog just gives you one extra dice to ensure you win the fight so your odds are a lot stronger. Banners are great! Always take one when you can

They were pretty simple! Its just a brown spray paint with a lighter brown dry brush nothing fancy but it works really well

I never played MESBG and have been sort of binging a ton of them. I love the LOTR universe so I've been thoroughly enjoying these games. Also for its cost, I have not seen someone as blatantly overpowered as Azog. Either something was sus with the rules or he was badly balanced. Not to mention Azog is a footnote in the lore, surprised he was given so much for effectively losing almost all his battles.

Azog certainly is strong but he has weaknesses. His main strength is killing heroes and in this game brodie fed him a hero each turn which is exactly what Azog was designed to deal with. Against hordes his impact is very significantly less and wizards are really good at shutting him down.
I do think its a bit silly that he is more powerful than a main character in melee such as Aragorn for what he was in the lore
Good was looking up by taking out the troll and killing the warg early on. But once Azog got into battle he just turns the tide alone by wiping out theoden, Aragorn, and Legolas! Do you think he’s overpowered?? Or under pointed??
I definitely think he should have lower fight and defence, plus master of battle on him is something I don't like. I think it should only be for heroic march and move...
Azog is super powerful. I think Brodie didn't play against him particularly well. You should avoid him with your heroes at all costs and brodie sent his in. In terms of game balance I think that he is decently costed on his own and then adding one of the best army bonuses on really powers him up. I wouldn't mind him dropping to fight 5 but I don't think that is going to change
@@ConquestCreations what’s the best strategy to take against him? Try to throw cheaper troops at him to tie him up? You’d think mobbing him with as much as possible would help but his flail makes it dangerous
@@craig3111 You have to Avoid him with your heroes at all cost and send small troops into him. You just need to put one troop into him per turn to tie him up and have a few more troops behind the fight so if Azog calls a heroic combat he can only go and take out other weak troops. Magic is another good way to deal with him. Anything that can slow him down

I feel like Azog should have to choose between taking the Stone Flail or the White Warg. He is kinda OP otherwise lol

Why did you call an strike with azog at the fight with Aragon at 20:00 ? You do not have call first. You can wait if the enemy does anything and then counter it.
Also you can not strike and use the flail. (Well you can but it does nothing ). Also you have to say that you use the flail before the Fight.
There's nothing saying you can't strike with the flail, but indeed with priority he could have waited till Brody called one of the defense/strikes. He didn't have to tell about using the flail at the start of the phase indeed.
@@muesliman100 you can strike with the flail but your Fight goes down to 6/5+ after the strike. So it does not make sence to do so(it is official said so in the errata).
And you have to say which weapon you use at the start of the fight if you have more than one with any Model. Only in 98% of the time there is no need for it but with as you don't change it every fight. But with Azog it is important as he is only fight 6 with the flail.

Troll Brutes have 4 wounds, not 3. Also, the Troll should have been able to just walk around the stairs behind Azog on the 2nd turn. The stairs are less than half his height and he had more than enough base space and movement to cross it. He could have likely got into the rohan warrior tagging Azog and possibly Aragorn as well.

Can Legolas fire into combats? I though Good units couldn’t?
He has a special rule which give him that bonus.
Good models can't shoot when there's a chance of hitting a friendly due to In The Way (not specifically "can't shoot into combat") and if Legolas uses his single shot 2+ to hit ability (instead of firing 3 shots) he automatically passes In The Way rolls and therefore has no chance to hit the friendly.

This battle report just confirms that Azog/Bolg are broken characters. I would never gave them fight value higher than 5, that is just not right - even leave them remaining rules (although still too OP) but reduce their fight value to 5 and this will be the right call to do.
Fight 6 should be good... or make they more expensive

good game, I feel like feeding Azog is better than taking him on with heroes. As others have mentioned the flail rule being played correctly would have likely made a big difference here.

I don't disagree with you. I think his rules in game don't reflect what we saw of him in the films.
I swear GW saw how bad the Hobbit movies were and super pushed the power of the minis because they worried nobody would want to buy them if they weren't super strong.
hahahah I think the factions are well balanced but I don't think that Azogs profile represents the lore very well at all. There is no chance Azog would have been able to defeat Aragorn in the story

the powercreep is real. I really hope we do not get any more attention by GW. That missing attention/the missing powercrept release avalanches alone have left MESBG the hidden gem of GW. More attention would sadly only be a bad thing for the game.
Absolutely. Gundabad orcs are just better morannon orcs. Shagrat and Gothmog, arguably the strongest orc heroes before hobbit, are completely overshadowed by bolg and azog. Fight 7 on orcs? Why doesn't shagrat or gothmog get fight 6 then? Free master of battle, trolls, 8 inch ogres and bersersks. And mirkwood glaives are elven made hand and a half spears, shields and swords in one, for 2 points. Cool.
Much worse when the stone flail is horribly misplayed. It should be capped at F6.

Thanks for the comment! This is a great army to start with just watch out becuase you can't take Gandalf with the 4 Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin. Farmer Maggot is a great unit! If you wanted to keep gandalf you could take Bilbo, Freddy Bolger, Lobelia, and Paladin Took or ad in any of the characters from the scouring of the shire!

I can't believe how useless range combat is in this game. Yes lucky sixes wounded the troll but that's just a total turn down for me. But it was a nice Battle report
This is something that a lot of new players think. Once you get some experience you realise just how powerful shooting is. There is a really good reason that it is practically the only limitation in army building.
For example if an elf is shooting at a model that is defence 6 or 7 they will need a 3+ to hit and a 6 to kill however that model has no chance to hit them back and they can be up to 24" away from their enemy. Whereas is a 1v1 fight the elf has a 21/36 chance of winning the fight, assuming that the enemy is lower fight than them, and would still need a 6 to wound. So in this case shooting gives you better odds of killing your opponent and their is no risk to your own archer.
Furthermore even in games where you don't kill a single model with shooting you still get a huge amount of control of the battle field. In this game I had no other choice than to charge at the enemies because he out shot me which means my opponent got to determine where on the table to fighting would take place.
@@ConquestCreations I understand what you mean but I played a lot of Table top Strategy games from GW and other companies and I really like what I see from lord of the rings but still the range combat is still a giant turn of. Only 30 percent of your models are allowed to use Bows or Crossbows (I don't know if throwing weapons also fall under this Category) and then you have to fear that the resources spent (in points) don't even do jack shit the hole game just doesn't feel right to me.
Especially when n you have a range hero like Legolas who should be able to take out Enemies but still needs to go fishing for natural sixes to do something or Spend a finid in game resource to do stuff.
@@kaisiegfried425 I would certainly recomend watching some battle reports if my previous comment wasn't enough to convince you. The reason that bows are limited to 1/3rd of your army is otherwise every game would just be two armies shooting each other off the board because shooting is so powerful. The rangers of Ithilien legendary legion allowed you to take 100% of your army with bows and it was problematically powerful hence was nerfed.
It is important to keep in mind that Middle Earth often goes for 10-12 sometimes even more turns which means that you are able to shoot significantly more times than other games like Age of Sigmar or Warhammer 40k.
