Xander commented how much cooler it was inside the bar......to tell you it's very hot outside.....to make the snowing at the end seem that much more remarkable/unusual, "miracle" ish.

I agree, Giles definitely knows that Angel isn't actually responsible for Jenny's death, but he doesn't care. I think that humanizes him in a way, and I liked it.

I think it was a Xmas tree lot, not a farm? You know, how people set up shop in a parking lot with a bunch of trees for sale? So they might have either had their roots wrapped and/or in buckets. But I didn’t watch the actual episode, so if I'm wrong I will try to...make amends. 😉

Yeah it does. It's almost like he's some kind of predator and was only using the "male feminist" label to deflect what a creeper he always was. Oh wait...

Every time they do an episode with Angel's um...questionable Irish accent it always makes me mystified that he's the most successful actor to emerge from this show.

I'd argue that Alyson Hannigan has done a lot better for herself (despite being a lot less talented)

@@MasterFhyl She's my favorite performer from this show, and has certainly done well for herself post Buffy, but the 2004-2005 television season is the only point in the last 25 years that David hasn't had a television show in active production. (everything past 1999 in a starring role.) He's also become a prolific television director and producer which places him among the most prolific and successful television actors in history (the only people I can think of that have had a comparable run are some of the cast of law and order and Michael Landon)

Well, middle America has very simple, bland tastes. So it's easy to see how he's found success.

So, considering the number of times I've left the first comment on these Buffy reviews, and the sheer volume of comments I leave, I think I might be your #1 fan at this point. That's ironic, huh?
I gotta hand it to you, you DO seem to be paying closer attention now. You even noticed how there was a theme, what with all the people making amends. (Although it's always hard to tell if you realize that was a deliberate inclusion on the part of the show, and not a random coincidence you caught. I guess you do, like if I had to make a bet, I would bet you do, but not unless I had good odds). But since when do you think Giles is cool? That's news to me. You still don't seem to understand that the focus of the show is the characters emotions and the monsters are just metaphors for the challenges of life. Like the fact that Giles has like... feelings... about his girlfriend being murdered. I'm not sure if you 2 guys ever had a girlfriend who got murdered or not (probably not) but your assumption that Giles will get over his feelings because intellectually he knows that Angel isn't Angelus... that's just kinda weird. People get upset when our loved ones die, we don't shrug. The emotions Giles is going through is one main points of the show. These emotions all seem totally foreign to you. Or at least to the characters you play in these reviews.
As always, I agree Boreanez's acting is weak. Especially that accent, my GOD what is going on with that accent? I've never understood why that guy went on to have such a successful career. I didn't think he had chemistry with Buffy.
Also, the snow blocked the sun from killing Angel. That's why the snow was considered a good thing by the characters. It seemed to indicate a miracle (a Christmas miracle, if you will). It's one of the most overt signals in the entire show that there may be a god of some sort, who seems to have spared Angel. I was never sure if I liked that, but, that's what happened. That's the significance of the snow.
    I give your review a B.

Yeah, I don't like this episode much (not much of a bangel fan, DB is mostly not that great in it, not much for Christmas miracles) but the ONE thing I like is the Giles and Angel scene. OF COURSE he knows Angel isn't Angelus but the moment Giles sees his face he's not going on logic, the PTSD has taken over. He spent hours looking at that face while he tortured him, and the thing with that face killed Jenny.
I don't think they're the most empathetic of guys tbh - but they ARE funny so I'll keep watching :)
And they always liked Giles, he was their favourite character in season 1, it's just they don't understand his emotions right now so they think he's being dumb (rather than traumatised as fuck!)

    • @SophaliciouS_Systematic
      @SophaliciouS_Systematic Před 2 lety

Well put, the fact that they didn’t pick up on why the snow played a significant role here is the reason why everyone of their reviews gets a single grade bump up from me at the end of each review. They’re not dumb, but perhaps a bit jaded forcing themselves to watch a show that clearly doesn’t vibe with them. The show is definitely schlocky, but I always thought of that as a good thing, like short b movies with tons of subtext, hidden meanings, and like you said metaphors galore. They can of course think whatever they want, but next to the movie this show is a masterpiece, flawed sure, but fantastic in comparison.

I would have to disagree on Boreanaz’s acting. The accent is pretty rough but besides that I believe he does a great job
There’s a reason why Buffy and Angel are considered to be one of the most iconic TV Couples from the 90s to today and that’s because of both Gellar and Boreanaz performances
