In Planet Zoo you are the Zoo Manager. Create underwater Viewing Galleries, develop intricate Chimpanzee climbing frames or house a majestic Bengal Tiger. You also need to make sure your animals stay healthy, have a comfy shelter and are not too annoyed by your guests. Speaking of which, you will need restaurants and other facilities to keep them happy too.
If you succeed, you will be granted access to the most impressive animals of this planet, such as the Giant Panda, a fluffly small red panda, the scary Komodo dragon or the bulky Hippo.
You can also build several habitats, Domes, safari rides or walk-in habitats that provide the best view onto your animals.

As a 3D modeler with maybe a bit more understanding of how all this works, I can say; *this is the best evaluation to date on the particulars of water in this game* . Unlike in Unity , Unreal, or most any other 3D game engine, or even in Planet Coaster, water in this game is not just a single sided plane, but an actual 3D object that welds itself to the terrain mesh at fixed, one meter points (or vertex). Once created, the game restricts further terrain manipulation because it would change the weld points of the water causing a water surface with bumps or even holes. Because of this ...
In some cases it is the "undo" function that contributes to the inconsistent behavior demonstrated in this video. Deleting a body of water has a different effect on making changes and putting water back in, as opposed to "undo(ing)" back to just before creating the water, make terrain changes and then creating the water (as new). *Sometimes* the refusal to create water when you know it should work *might be* corrected by saving and reloading the game. This clears the game's Undo list which is often (intentional or not by the developers) the culprit for what seems to be inconsistent behavior.
Although the water created is an actual 3D object with a calculated volume, it is not a volumetric (or "meta") object, which is why it can not flow downhill. Meta objects in real time are extremely CPU intensive. The top surface has an 80% to 90% semi-transparent shader, depending on it's "cleanness", with an animated bump map to create the (illusion of) moving ripples. The appearance of the sides of the water seen in the video is most likely an unintended visual effect of the way that texture is "plainer projected" on to the surface of the water object - it's not really something the developers intended to be seen. The interior of a pond or lake (underwater) is simply a standard 3D "fog" rendering effect that is triggered when the view camera actually enters the interior of the water object.
I'm a 3d modeler and texturer as well, and 3DPDK's explanations make sense. Short (practical) form: Water can only exist on the map at ABSOLUTE multiples of 1 meter.

@@Bryant201 Then Bryant, my comment was not really intended for you to read.
@@Bryant201 i found it very fascinating. Just because it doesnt interest you doesnt mean it doesnt interest others
@@Bryant201 Obviously its boring for 5 year olds, if you didn't like it, don't respond.
Great video. I was feeling your pain all the way through when things didn't go to plan. Nice to see Planet Zoo isn't just hard to handle for us noobs either.
I think i missed it but how do you add the animation?
I've not done any actual terrain modifications in exhibits apart from slight hills and stuff and this stuff made 100% sense, thank you! Very informative and watching you do it, even though it doesn't 100% work for reasons unknown I can see how it does and to just have a little play to get it right, I hope my animals enjoy their new waterfalls :D
Thank you for figuring this out! I've avoided water features because they always look weird but now I'm going to make so many!
Beautiful! Now I'm going to make cascades and better waterfalls!
Hey Rudi! Thx for the effort and time you put into the video! I am new to the game and I struggled a lot with the water features. Your video was a great help!
I'm excited to put these tips in action. Thanks.
Wow. Thank you so much. I could not figure out why I could get the water level even with ground level in some habitats but not others. Thanks for sharing these advanced tips with the community. Basic tutorials are great and very helpful but they only get you so far. And thank you for taking the time to spell it and show it step by step. Very helpful.
you are welcome
Thanks! Very helpful. That might explain why I didn’t get the glass barrier to work on my safari waterfall. Now I’ll have at least a fighting chance! :)
Excellent! Thanks for the tips and tricks Rudi! 🥰
Thank you so much! This will help me out a lot!
This was such a helpful youtube video, and helped me for making a new habitat in Planet Zoo!
Wow, this is am amazing tutorial and soo helpfull. Thank you verry much for making this and explaning it verry detailed how we can get the perfect high for the water!
Man I tried for a while but now I got it to work and it is looking beautiful, thank you. Also I am confirming that this still works with the new aquatic update.
This was kind of information overload, i feel more confused about water than i did before i watched this. 😅
That's why I put advanced in the title :P

This explains so much, thank you for this amazing tutorial !
You are welcome
2:50 i thinks it only treats water in habitats, thats why it said it only treats 1 waterbody
great tipp with the glass barrier. Thanks
Really nice tutorial - thank you!
Thank you so much for this video, it helps greatly!
I’m too dumb for this game...
Do you drink

Lol, I say the same a lot but it really just takes a lot of time and patience.
Art looks worse before it looks good
Now Kerbal space game is definitely a game that I'm not smart enough for.
Still fun nevertheless
Thank you a lot from France ! This tutorial will be very helpful ! Thank you !!!
you are welcome!
These tutorials are amazing 😍
thank you. there have been a lot of usefull information.
I like this tutorial but I still don't know how to use any of the water tools to make the waterfall.
Super helpful, Rudi, thank you so much. The glass barrier trick to make stairs has just let me make a raging river down a gorge, which actually looks good. You aren't able to do that in PlanCo!
exactly, the glass barrier tick is amazing!
Hehehe u r so funny as u get surprised by what you expected in your examples now working as u expected. That was Fun!
Nice Video and really helpful :) I wanted to play planet zoo again and had this idea of a waterfall cave, but had problems with the waterfalltop...but before I mess up my franchise zoo (not existent yet xD) I will test this in sandbox^^ If I get it done the only problem I have to solve is how the animals geht inside the cave....well where there is a will there is a way xD
I just ordered PZ, so I am just discovering this video. The in-game constrictions makes sense. In Trainz simulator, there is in-game water, and then there are water "objects" - just a semi-clear plane with a bump map. I may try to do that here, because you could have small ponds and streams placed anywhere for decoration purposes. If animals were to reach them, I suppose they would just walk across the surface. 🙂
thanks Mr Kamel the one of the best tips for waterfalls.
now you make this in Koali zoo with Sivarret, lady, Mike and you
thank you!
I need tips on how to hide the black nozzles that the effects come from
Thats pretty nice explanation. Subscribed : )
welcome!
I know i'm late to the party. But, for new players explaining how you did the actual controls would be helpful.
thankyou
"we are able to put it down" "we are not" sigh* That was exactly my problem today. And because of this problem i was searching for a planet zoo waterfall tutorial.
its tricky, but as you can tell, with a bit of patience it works!
Well now this makes me want to restart my challenge zoo. Didn't get very far to do lack of money. Probably should do sandbox mode to practice first xD this is was better than my dad expesnive waterfall that made me bankrupt xD
Rudi did they patch this? Iv been doing the glass trick a long time now and now all of a sudden it wont work. No matter what i do i cant get the glass to lower to the level of the water
Hi Rudi, thanks for this video. It helped a lot. I know this was uploaded a long time ago - but I've still got a question: how do you edit the terrain around an already placed barrier? My game prevents me from doing that... I also tried around with the different collision options in the menu. Was this patched out of the game? Thanks :)
it was added as an option later - you have to change a setting that enables the "old" terrain editing for barriers.
Wow I always wondered about water height snap waiting for update for height snap toggle.
i guess there won´t be a height snap tho
Happy Birthday Rudy
thank you!
I am not sure but i think glass barriers can get changed into null barrier
u didnt show where and how to place the animations. whether its on the glass, in side the rock etc thats the most important part too and i cant get it
Hahaha.......this game...it plays games with you!........thanks for the informative vid!
Boy can you talk...LOL Thanks for the info Rudister.
Where do you get those water effects? Sorry I'm new in the game hehehe and I love it ❤
They are under VFX, but you can simply search for "water" and you'll find them

does anyone know how to download the planet zoo soundtrack
if you have the deluxe edidtion, its in the game folder
Just watch the video twice and am still confused on how to get the water flowing past the glass
niiiiiicee
I can't figure out what objects make the illusion of flowing water😕
If you mean for the cascades, he uses the special effects objects(I don't know the exact name but try them all out)
Also, if you need some nice water effect or illusion, check out Koali Zoo episode 33 : czcams.com/video/i_L-x0KpHY4/video.html
Mike Sheets uses ice rocks to recreate the effect of water and I think it looks great!
First!!!! Rudiiiiii
The water pump only shows number of water "bodies" registered in a habitat.
yeah, i wondered. I am very sure in the past it did show the volume tho
B4 I saw that video I thought I was doing a decent job building habitats...
Haha you will be fine !
@@RudiRennkamel Thanks buddy. Keep up the great work. ^^
I know you meant well, but this video was very confusing, I really didn't get much out of it as it rambles and is full of errors, you also go way too fast.
Well if I go though the comments people seem to find it helpful :) hoping next time I can help you with it anyways
