Owned a scar17s for 6 years now. It is my main hunting rifle. Very compact and handy for the capability it brings to the table. Has put lots of meat in the freezer. She doesn't care about sand from the creek, mud from the swamp, or if it's pouring down rain. She has been nothing but reliable and does everything I ask of her
Have you changed your gas jet?
My extracted shells were landing in the next county, so I knew this had to be changed.
Factory setting is .50mm & I installed a .30mm with zero malfunction & it's gas correctly for my shooting/hunting on my Ranch. The jet cost $5 & easy to install.
Do you mind helping me out and telling me scope do you use? I have seen Scars destroy optics and I don’t want to damage or destroy my scopes.
I have seen even quality, $800-$1200 scopes get torn to shreds by the recoil impulse.
@@creekochee3592 I've ran leupold and eotech scopes
@@creekochee3592 : Changed the gas jet to .30mm & use a simple 2×7 Accurange Redfield
@@creekochee3592 real hunters use ironsights
I have a 2013 Belgian I got second hand. It was unfired. I have over 2k through it now with 1k being suppressed. I swapped the gas jet and it is a fantastic shooter. The ability to swap gas jets and the 2 position plug just begs for it to be suppressed. Probably one of my favorite rifles.
Finally was waiting for you to do a scar video, sounds like you need to add one to your collection. FN does have a Gen 2 currently in the ongoing socom mid range gas gun trial in 6.5 Creedmoor that fixed most user complaints. It looks similar to the Sig mcx spear
Great video!
1. You can add mlok with MI kit. Not too hard.
2. It's not a standard AR grip but you can mod any grip to work. I have an HK grip on mine.
3. It sounds cavernous and yet somehow amazing. You can tell when someone charges a SCAR by the sound.
4. It's expensive but also a fine fine instrument 😊
5. You guys compare the ergos and weight to non 308s and when you compare it to an m77, it's 2 pounds lighter and much much more modern.
6. Love what you do. Keep it up!
Oh my, that sig with the Green anodized rail is beautiful. Great choice
As far as SCARS go 15 years ago it was great in call of duty :) That's all my experience with one .
Agree with you guys on the NRCH charging handle sticking. For reloads the NRCH works better if you're used to a bolt release from an AR, the reciprocating one works better if you're used to grabbing the handle from an AK.
nah, NRCH works better period and only sticks if you haven't shot your rifle. After about 50 rounds any resistance goes away.
It's funny on the fn scar the warranty voids throwing a suppressor on them because they suppress so well with the adjustable gas block. I really like the ugg boot stock on them to they are super comfortable
I’ve owned a Bren 2 Carbine since November of last year and it’s rapidly become my favorite rifle to shoot. My only gripe is CZ’s overall lack of aftermarket support for the Bren 2. 3/4th’s of the accessories on my rifle are from HBI or Haga Defense.
EDIT: regarding the NCH on the Bren 2, it’s actually ingenious how CZ did it. It’s just a piece of polymer with a slot for the charging handle that sits on top of the bolt carrier with a spring loaded latch. The bolt carrier will move with manipulation of the charging handle manually but not while firing, though it still allows the charging handle to be used as a forward assist.
The Bren is fuckin awesome but since they won't make a308 the scar is the way to go
I concur with Fox, that factory muzzle brake is absolutely ridiculous. I remember standing 10 feet behind a friend shooting a SCAR and still being concussed to no end.
… but the recoil is sweet !
@@baomao7243 A .308 round is a .308 round and I don't think an AR-10 w/ a decent brake/compensator would recoil any more. SCARs advantage is Ergonomics, Accuracy, etc.
Some thoughts: I've seen demilled SCAR-H kits with AAC 3 prong mounts. FN's military muzzle device is an open 3 prong style. I've gone back and forth between the Surefire SF3P and SFMB on mine. The civilian FSC device is great for mitigating recoil but way too punishing with blast.
The M249 bolt actually looks like an FNC/AK bolt, not a Johnson/AR/SCAR/FS2000 bolt. If you ever have the opportunity to get a pre-2022 M249S, I highly recommend it.
Surplus metric FAL mags are as reliable in FN and Imbel receivers as anything in anything. I think the problems are mostly with DSA and Korean mags, and DSA receivers. I've seen DSA demo their FALs and not even use their own mags. I've never had problems with SCAR mags, and was able to get a deal on a bunch of surplus mags years ago at Knob Creek.
The NRCH SCAR added material to the receiver to block the auto/safety sear. US civilian SCARs have a little spacer ring on the bolt catch support post where the sear should be.
Trust me, from going through hundreds of surplus FAL mags back when all the kits were available? There were some just bad mags. The 'inch' pattern mags were generally better and more durable. As to an M249S...wanna send us a loaner? lol Those things just got too expensive. I've only had 2 in the shop and both sold imemdiately for well North of $10k. For that, i just couldn't justify hanging onto one for myself, and i do love me some LMG action too. As to the devices, i am sure you are right with later MK.17s but early on, back around 2009-2010, FN was shipping them with what was basically an M16A2 type device. I have a spare Surefire around here somewehre, but i just returned the SCAR to its owner a couple days ago. Fun to play with, but I think i'll stick with my SG751-SOCOM for roughly the same moneys.
@@misha5670 Now that I think about it, I hand picked most of my FAL mags, and I probably still ended up with one or two bad ones. If I'm ever in the area, I'd definitely loan you my M249S. I think the reason I like the SCAR-17S so much is it's the first 7.62x51 that really impressed me. Light weight, reliable, accurate, reachable controls, good for mounting optics (as long as they can withstand a little bit of forward recoil). I think the only time it's malfunctioned was when I had my thumb in the way of the charging handle. I'm sure I'd like the Sig or a premium AR, but I got hooked on the SCAR first.
@@misha5670 I don’t think those Sig 751s are $3,000 anymore. I heard they’re around $5,000 now. Where are you getting them from?
Evening Misha 😀😊😎
Great video, 2weeks more i be having fun with my scar 17s i have the tan.
That Was Some Serious Hot Ammo The Muzzle Flash Was Quite Impressive Misha More Than an AR Pistol With a 7.5 In Barrel 😮😮😮😎
I probably have more nice quality 7.62/.308 than any other ammo type lol. Its a holdover from my FAL days. I bought a bunch of the NATO stuff when it was surplused. I liked the Aussie a lot but you had to be careful with some loads out of Israel.
First 100 yard shot i ever made was with a scar 17s. special place in my heart. but when you place it next to a galil ace. it feels cheap. The galil just touch and feel and in the hands feels so much better. I ended up unloading the scar. it hurt. but like you mention 308 isnt best range option. hardly every took it out. I kept the Galil.
I love both of those platforms it is hard to decide which one I like better.
I love mine, I haven't shot it in a while. The first thing I did was cut off that horrible finger grove on the A2 grip.
Definitely would go with my Bren 2 over any other gun I own.
You should chime in below where a couple guys are saying the Bren 2 is flimsy and not durable.
Got a good laugh when Fox said he liked shooting his m77 more than the other 2 given the huge price differences. That said there's something about an AK.
Sometimes less is more.
@@foxf6 Cope! Cope! Cope! lol j/k
Misha please make a prolonged FAL history video … i know you have many but they mostly are with the old microphone and we need a refresher
I wish i had a new FAL rifle to share with you all, but sadly I don't. At least I can say that I didn't have to sell any during 'you know what' back in 2020.
Super cool customer, thank you for the content for the video 🎉 I’d love to shoot one of these..
Nice selection on the table for comparison 😗🍿
@Fox F6 I've seen/ read somewhere online that the scar's easy to lose your point of aim due to the recoil compared to other 7.62x51 platforms? that a bunch of crap? It looks like both you and Misha can handle this thing no problem tbh
Sig SG 751 SAPR for the win
I asked him if he wanted to be credited by name and he politely declined saying it wasn't necessary. I will tip you off that he lives in a less-grun friendly state, so he's probably wise not advertising something like tthis that he has to the entire world forever. People sometimes forget, once you put it online, its basicly here forever.
What’s that Sig rifle cost?
I have one, and it's a great bigfoot hunting rifle. Absolutely reliable, easy tonclean, light recoil, compact, unlike my Springfiekd M1A, and ergonomic where the M1A is just an M1 Garand 2.0.
I do like the SCAR but my top choice is the 308 Galil ACE, I also like the Zastava M77.
Ironically I have both except a scar 17
I REALLY want a FAL …
the galil ace 308 gen 1 blast is waaaay more to me..
Galil Ace and SCAR17 are my favorite 308 rifles!!
Misha would u be able to give us a head 2 head FN FNC vs FN SCAR
The only gripe I have from my NRCH is that the charging handle so so stuff in the locked position. Like ridiculously stiff. Other than that, it’s a SCAR
What kind of optic do you have?
@@SPatelCartel currently just have a EOtech on it. Saving up for a Night Force ATACR unless I change my mind
@@CSmothersForge I’m thinking about an Elcan SpecterDR 1-4 but still doing my research.
@@SPatelCartel I thought about it but for my purpose of the SCAR I decided against it. They have their pros but also they have their downfalls depending on your application. I decided a dedicated variable optic with an offset red dot would suit my needs best. Yours may very.
That Bren 2 is so cool! Is that a custom barrel extension?
LFMAO - Good one
Longe gas cylinder the FAL?
Yes, the FAL has quite a long gas tube but it is still classed as 'short stroke'.
I appreciate the history as always. The Bren (especially the bren2) is really only comparable on paper. It is a much more finicky and fragile piece especially if you dare swap the rail system. I agree with you that the NRCH is sort of meh.
The Bren 2MS perhaps, but the military Bren 2A1/A2? Those are holding up quite well in the field.
@Jake Gore agreed. It took a lot of fine tuning, HBI parts and torque wrench witchcraft to get my 14 inch 556 working reliably. I think they tried to make it too many different things. They have imported a bunch of 762 to 556 kits but they are $899.
@@thedumbguncollector5546 One reason i stick with someone as close to military as possible is you get the benefits of all that gov't testing and factory tweking to satisfy the trials.
@@misha5670 absolutely. Have you ever seen any of the military forends for sale? I know everybody hates Picatinny rail now, but I would sort of like to set mine up like the real military gun.
@@thedumbguncollector5546 Remember, the military version, like the Bren 2S, doesn't have a separate forend. The receiver is all one piece. What it does have are interchangeable side panels and a 3rd bottom one. See that's the bumber with the Bren 2MS, its built on an entirely different receiver forging. It even lacks the lightening cuts of the original and the top picatinny rail is a different spec too.
Do you know if 308. Is shootable in 17s?
Yes. It is.
I get the sense from Chris Bartocci that the B & T APC308 is actually a nicer rifle even though it doesn’t have the SCAR’s military pedigree or it’s testing. Right now I’m only seeing them in pistol form. Is it easy to put a stock on it? Do you see the actual DMRs being available in the US?
Bartocci clearly hates FN with a passion. I think he is still in team Colt mode from his old job. Chris is an amazing (hell he is THE) resource on all things AR but he is hilariously biased when it comes to the SCAR or 416/17. He usually kinder to boutique rifles he doesn’t view as a real threat/competitor. Just my observations after many years of being a big fan of his.
@@thedumbguncollector5546 He claims the optics destroying nature of the SCAR is a real thing. I hear those B & T APC308s feel like Swiss watches.
@@markp4401 I don’t have a sig 308 but I have a 550 and a 553 and I can confirm they are very nicely made and finished. Very old school cool.
@@thedumbguncollector5546 Too bad they’re nearly impossible to get.
@@thedumbguncollector5546 Kind of what i was saying in this video. ?Even though the 751 is a new gun, released around 2012-2013, it feels lke something that could have come from the '80s. Make of that what you will.
It's a 2.5 inch difference between what was that exactly?
length of pull
Fox - how did it do with wolf ammo?
Absolutely fantastic
I know. Good gun wt a odd stock
The SCAR is about as old as the FAL at this point eh? Didn't know they still made the SCAR, is it C&R eligible yet?
Only in Canada
It wasn't the FAL mag's fault. It was that swarm of angry bees' fault. They could clearly be heard. 🤓
Fire control group is also almost an exact copy of the FNC.
Which some elements of were inspired by the FAL too. And that gun dates back to the 1940s haha.
@@misha5670 I just remember getting my hands on a SCAR for the first time and thinking “this all looks really familiar…” haha. Why reinvent the wheel I guess.
Great for shape shifters and dog man. The low recoil works best when a ware wolf tries to make a break for it on a vespa scooters. Never seen a Mountain Dew 2 liter bottle stand up to it might and waffle eating furry. Make a street girl go umph!
Ya' lost me there. But i do know one was in a Stephen King novel a few years back.
FN SCAR 17S will forever remain iconic, but to be honest the Robinson XCR-M is kinda better. It has the features of SCAR and the reliability of an AK, eats steel cased ammo with utmost ease.
Old comment I know but I ordered an XCR-M carbine a few years ago. Took a year and a half to get it but man was it worth it.
I have a lot of guns and have shot even more. Whether the XCR would have won its trials or not I cannot say. But I can say that it is proabably the most refined long stroke gun I've ever used. Seriously, everything about it is well thought out.
Easily the most underappreciated modern gun in existence.
@@vault_dwelIer They were disqualified due to the stupidest reason. Robinson Armament didn't develop a blank firing adapter for the XCR and even after disqualification they haven't cared to make a blank firing adapter for their rifle.
@@TheNocturnalEvil I'm well aware. Always seemed fishy to me, as though the government didn't want to piss off the major European arms manufacters that (at this point), pretty much supply or own the productions of all of our small arms.
Can't say how well the rifle would've performed in the hands of grunts long term, as I'm just a range warrior.
But I can say that it has been such a great rifle that I'll probably order an XCR-L. I love the operating system in particular. Everyone talks about the Sg550 or the Galil Ace (both of which I own) when they mention a modernized AK.
But the XCR is without a doubt the best designed gun inspired by the Kalashnikov, it truly feels like a western version rather than a modified variant. And it most certainly does have some serious AK inspirations inside the receiver.
Will you tube allow you to review guns?
Doing it right now...so....
the trigger on my new 17s ..totally sucks balls..for 3500 dollars, you'd think it would be as good as the bren trigger..just sayin.

What a colossal waste of money.
For you maybe, and maybe to me too; but other people have other values and needs. I've found in life, its better not to judge others.
@@misha5670 I've learned to appreciate when others point out my stupidity, which many do. I roll with it.
I have to agree with you 💯. But life is short, and people should get what makes them happy.
@@WiIdbiII No disagreement. Just trying to save another or two from what I experienced because of my "Gotta have its." Haha, finally.
FN could’ve at least modernized the receiver to have Mlok but I guess the picatinny rail is standardized world wide and is a reason to keep the receiver’s original design. Just got a Belguim reciprocating charging handle Scar 16 because it’s a great training tool👍🏼💥😅
