- In a historic first, Pope Francis addressed a joint session of Congress at the U.S. Capitol on Thursday. He called on lawmakers to act on a range of issues, from climate change to immigration to Syria. The pope also addressed the thousands gathered on the National Mall. Charlie Rose, Norah O'Donnell, Gayle King and Vinita Nair anchor this CBS News Special Report.
I am not even a Christian... But the words said by the Pope spoke volumes to all... No matter what religion or even the country... Faith in the Almighty and Love for Him and All His creation is afterall universal. God Bless him and God Bless Us All.

Pope Francis spoke English fluently. He's a fast learner.
A lot of practice reading and probably in speaking English gives this pope an advantage over most of our previous popes. It helps that he alone among all previous popes was born and raised on this North American continent. Among the Argentinians, I imagine there are a few who are bilingual, who speak English as well as Spanish, the popes language of origin. Because Spanish is his first language and Italian is similar, as they are both known as the Romance languages and Italian is easier to learn when your first language spoken is Spanish, rather than English, he's multilinguistic. My mother used to say (although it's a bit of exaggeration, I know), practice makes 👌 perfect.
As a follower of the Latin Tridentine Mass hope the Pope is a fast learner and realize the mistake he made when he high handedly tried to suppress the Latin mass.

Such a beautiful moment! How unthinkable this would have been just 50 years ago to have a Pope address Congress! Especially if you're aware of how Catholics have been treated in this country for so many years, until relatively recently. Parenthetically, I wish American Catholics would take this history and this speech to heart and consider it when they encounter today's vilified minorities (e.g., Muslims, gays, migrants).
I had mono the week the Pope gave this speech. I watched it from bed with my carton of Haagen-Dazs ice cream. I was crying like a baby the whole time. Watching it today still brings me tears.
