They do their own choreo! That is one of the great things about ATARASHII GAKKO! The girl with the hat is RIN and she IS a street dancer girl. She said shes been into Hip Hop since she was in her mothers belly.

"Woo Go" is AG's answer to the Jane Fonda exercise video. FYI they are the choreographers, they develop all their own dances and even do it for other groups. It's a collaboration with Nike as part of the Nike Juku (Nike crammer school) project to get stressed kids out of the classroom and do more exercise and obviously do that wearing Nike products. There are musical and dance references to the clock in the classroom and AG even work in the Nike "swoosh" quite a few times. There's more structure in the dance probably because AG are working to a commission.
Rin is in front at the beginning and she is in what I would call a "riding stance" which is a common stance in karate, kung fu and many other martial arts; the feet are flat on the floor, either parallel or pointing slightly outwards, and at least shoulder width apart, then you squat down so that your thighs are parallel with the ground keeping the body upright - it's a real thigh burner. This stance is often held for a long time as part of training. They then actually throw a few punches, but don't do it very well as I was always taught not to bob up and down when doing anything from the riding stance, or any stance in fact. I also see a brief wing chung stance which has the knees pulled together and the feet turned inwards and then you squat slightly, that's a tough one. These are all things that the Japanese will associate with physical exercise.
You might like to comment on a dance routine that AG developed for Hey!Say!JUMP for their song "Negative Fighter". I think they've interpreted the song wonderfully.
Here is the official version using AG's choreography

and AG doing their dance to an "8-bit" version of the song for copyright reasons - get ready for the ending.

A massive thigh burner! I was honestly so impressed! Thanks for these recommendations (and the info) I’ll add them

Thanks so much for doing this one! It’s my favorite of theirs. For me it is also the perfect BPM for jogging, you should try it.

LOVED this analysis. As a non-dancer who is fascinated by choreographies (especially AG) this was super insightful. Hope you do more Atarashii Gakko analysis vids! :)

Love their dance practice videos! They have a tendency to get silly sometimes and I am here for it. Yes, Suzuka was wearing a sock on her hand, lol. I can't remember which video it was (Otona Blue maybe), Mizyu was wearing heavy duty gardening gloves, Kanon had one sock on her foot and not the other. Suzuka had a mic stand made of pvc that fell apart. The one for Hanako is pretty good too but, they all are really.

@@xiaouiris I like the "rave" remix of Pineapple Kryptonite, but the original is not my favourite, but it is good to look at the full catalogue as the mis-steps are often as worthy of analysis as the bangers!

@@xiaouiris Whoo hoo! Pineapple Kryptonite is incredible. Make sure you watch the “official choreography video” version (and then watch the regular music video after because it’s so fun and insane)

@@xiaouiris Yes do both :) the MV is less interresting from a chorographer pov for sure, but really funny, and they put a lot of effort into it. Also just so you know; this song (Pinnaple Kryptonite) was writen with Money Mark (from Beastie Boys) and you can see him during the MV (the guy looking for a ride with the panel)

Just found your channel, and you're absolutely amazing!! The way you capture and appreciate the unconventional dance style of these guys is so cool. So nice to see an expert that enjoys something that's a bit weird ♥

I don’t know if anyones mentioned it before, but all four have been experienced dancers for a very long time, especially kanon! Mizyu and Rin both worked for a modeling agency when they were kids that centered heavily around dancing, Suzuka attended a preforming arts school, and kanon was a professional dancer showing up on tv in competitions quite a bit!!
Also, if you’re interested in recommendations, my favorite dance practice of theirs is their song fantastico. The lyrics are all actual gibberish (legit, they never say an actual word) but they still tell a story through their choreo and it’s so fun to watch. Also, I recommend checking out Babymetal if you never have, since you mentioned never really seeing dancing to rock. They do dances to metal music, they’re a fascinating group!!

    AGは歌詞の意味、音、ベース、全て解釈しながら振り付けしているところが凄いです。このバージョンは4人がリラックスしてやってるのも見ていて笑顔になります。

To add to other’s comments, they do their own choreo. I’ve often wondered how long it takes them to come up with the dance for a song. I’ve not seen that asked of them in an English interview. Recommend Okami No Uta (Wolf song) if you want to see them cut loose.

Excellent analysis, and love learning little tidbits about dancing techniques that I otherwise wouldn't have a clue about. You used the term, "It's out of the box type of dancing." I don't know if you misspoke, but "out of the box" usually means (at least in American English) standard, not customized. I assume what you meant to say was "outside of the box", meaning going beyond traditional boundaries. Sorry for being so picky!

    • @xiaouiris
      @xiaouiris  Před rokem

Yeah it’s my British slang. We say ‘out the box’ instead of outside as a way to shorten it
