Live Grateful Dead is great, but there’s nothing wrong with hearing studio versions first.
For something funky, try Shakedown Street or The Music Never Stopped.
For something more folky and acoustic, try Ripple or Bird Song.
    Good luck and welcome!

Dude, do yourself a favor and listen to Blues For Allah from end to end, or at least listen to One From the Vault to get the album sequence. For that matter, listen to all they have of studio records.

Great version of Frankie’s. What’s up with the copyright filter? It’s the Grateful Dead man.

Hon - you never have to worry about copyrights with the Dead. They always said, "When we're done with it, anyone can have it."

Just a friendly notation if you have trouble with sound quality on a certain choice song go to the Dick's picks version and usually those are all the best sound quality concert picks❤ Love that you're doing the dead keep it coming

On the album Blues for Allah, Franklin's Tower is the last part of a suite that starts with Help on the Way and then runs into Slipknot, before going into Franklin's Tower.

The Dead's music is a deep well. Two big studio albums: Workingman's Dead and American Beauty. Probably a good dozen fine tunes between them. Try: Uncle John's Band, Easy Wind, Truckin'.

More goodies from the good ol' Grateful Dead: "U.S. Blues", "Sugar Magnolia>Sunshine Daydream", "Cumberland Blues", "Ripple", "Estimated Prophet>Eyes Of The World", "Row Jimmy", "Bertha", "Alabama Getaway", "Brokedown Palace", "One More Saturday Night", only 450, or so, more to go.

The best early version of "Franklin's Tower" is from the official release of "One From The Vault", where there is an introduction by Promoter Bill Graham, and then it is preceded by "Help On The Way>Slipknot" then it goes right into "Franklin's". Dead Heads call it "Help/Slip/Franklin's". "If you get confused, listen to the music play". Words of wisdom from Robert Hunter and Jerry Garcia.

Always listen to the studio first - that is exactly what the band wanted you to hear - so they committed it to vinyl. Many Dead albums are from live shows - Live is great too but because it's of the moment - it's often hit or miss - choose wisely. Been to 100s of shows myself '70-'81 and if not Dead, JGB

Believe it or not most of their songs were performed live for a year or two before they went into the studio to record them.

When you changed the clip...Thing is with the Dead...NO two tracks of the song are the same. You can have 100 recordings of Jack straw, China cat, morning dew, etc...and they will all be distinctly different

With the Dead, it's ALWAYS live is best. They hated being in the studio, they only made albums to fulfill their contract obligations. They were live performers. Always go with live. Since they never did a song the same way, if one version is not to your liking, try another live version.
