I like how you noticed the logo stickers on the equipment, since that’s actually how the famous skull and lightning logo got started- as a way to mark their equipment. The very first design was actually just a circle with the lightning bolt, and then the skull part was added on later.

Yes! Finally someone is reacting to this great live song. One of the best live Dead songs
imo. They all bring it. Another great one Bobby sings live is Estimated Prophet. And Jerry's guitar playing. Always ♥️♥️♥️. The whole audience is dancing to this.

My favorite version is on Dick’s Picks 18 from the UNIDome. It opened set 2, and when Bobby’s mic failed at the start, Jerry ripped off a killer 5 minute solo while repairs were made. What a show! ✌️❤️🎶

The lead singer's vocal stylings are modeled after the version of this song recorded decades earlier by Reverend Gary Davis.
Check him out if you haven't already 😊

Winterland was a legendary rink / music hall that was there from the Grateful Dead's early days. This was the closing night. A great performance in an extremely historic venue, not just for the Dead but for countless acts over the years. Check out The Grateful Dead Movie to see this old building come alive.

this was NYE and the "closing" of Winterland where this was performed - "If I had my way; I would tear this OLD BUILDING down!" - 1st set, before the heavy drinking set in - the song was first done by the Reverend Gary Davis who taught the song to Peter, Paul & Mary who recorded a version calling it "If I Had My Way" - very old traditional song - if you're looking for some cool "dead" to check out - try the tune "Mississippi Half Step Uptown Toodleoo" or maybe a nice crunchy "Morning Dew" from 1988 - then for some Jazz - listen to "Eyes of the World" 1989 with Branford Marsalis sitting in for the 1st time with the Grateful Dead that evening

Jerry is playing one of his more famous guitars, known as the "Wolf" Guitar, due to the artwork at the bottom. The beautiful young lady is Mrs. Donna Jean Godcheaux, who was married to the Piano player, Keith Godcheaux. They were in the Grateful Dead for most of the 1970's. This is "The Closing Of Winterland" concert, a New Years Eve tradition which I will be watching in it's entirety in about a week. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everybody!!!

My first Dead show. My first hit, (It was a tiny microdot in a clear capsule it was violet colored) My first time walking through the doors at Winterland. I was 14. My head was spinning for days. This was coming off my first concert ever at the Palace of Fine Arts about a year and a half earlier I think, The Tubes. I cannot believe they even let a 13 year old into that show, talk about debauchery. I remember at the Tubes when it started to get quite pornographic I was looking around at the adults wondering when one of them was going to tell me to leave or cover my eyes or something. All that happened was I was offered a hit off of a joint. I looked at my friend and was like "ok I think we're good" took a big drag and went back to staring at the more than half naked girls in leather onstage. I was shipped off to boarding school shortly after (surprise surprise) and did not see the Dead again until 81 with Brent.

Unlike most bands with 2 drummers, Billy and Mickey played off one another. But did not hit the same drum notes a good deal of the time. They held down their own percussion section with development of the Rythym Devils (an offshoot of the Dead). They did most of the instrumental music and sounds in Apocalypse Now. They were a percussive section that aided in the development of much that is used in the world of music, today, in every spectrum - including midi exploration.
