This musical was not performed by professional singers, actors and dancers, they all are people who work in construction, supermarkets, as teachers etc., and like to sing and dance just as a hobby. They were all "collected" throughout Volendam and put together and built this up from scratch. So it is amazing that they pulled this off so brilliantly!

Give this man his due! Sure, he is not Carl Anderson, but out of the new generation of these singers, he is the very best I have heard. He is damn good, and he has that "black" sounding voice. I would love to see him live and hear him do some studio work on this. Now again, no-one is as good as Carl but that is because the style was more natural to Carl and his style. Also Carl and "timing" like no-one else. He could sing on or off the beat at will. Good job man!!!

I love seeing everyone's pov here, encourage sharing & coming together, so all may be considered. Stop thumbs downing an idea just because you disagree, if respectful it deserves a respectful ear. Remember, we are all humans, hopefully, none perfect yet perfect in our imperfections, how else do we grow? This story is this idea, an imperfect human perception, not a true account but it is very much from the heart, the heart is what defines humanity, and this story obviously stirs so many of ours.

I'm going to through in some speculation here, so don't sue me if I'm wrong. Volendam is quite a Catholic village. The film was and probably still is quite controversial in strict religious circles. So that might be the reason the director chose to steer away from the film's depiction of Judas descending from heaven, instead opting for the more general accepted idea of Judas being in Hell.

I have watched most of these videos, and they are all amazing...But I was curious why you guys had Judas coming from Hell? For one, this musical was initially going to be called "The Gospel According to Judas", it is supposed to be the story of Judas really. Second, Judas does belong in Heaven, without him, we never would had been saved through Jesus' death...Just somthing to ponder...

In the context of the production, as Jesus is simply 'a man', then none of your point about heaven/hell/devils or anything mean anything.
It's Lloyd-Webber's interpretation of an 'event' which happened a *long* time ago, whose account has undoubtedly been twisted over time.

AWESOME choreography, and whoever the singer is--he did an amazing job delivering the song. Fantastic performance!
As for the meaning of the song, it can be meant for ridicule or inquiry, depending on how you interpret it. I like to think of it as a song ridiculing jesus. Judas has a right to confront to the person that gave him the task to send him to hell (of course, I dont believe in the son of god or hell, but figuratively speaking).

Everyone complaining about Judas in this version being from Hell, think about it, he betrayed the son of God which led to his death, then he took his own life, which is a mortal sin that cannot be cleansed, so if you are into the whole it was all God's plan, he still took his own life. If Judas isn't in Hell, then who is?

Without the writings of the overly-zealous Paul, you would not have come to that interpretation all on your own by reading the Genesis account as it is.
The idea and belief that Christianity was established back in the garden to save mankind is not even directly found in Genesis. You find all that later on in Paul's interpretations of the text.
annapunkchan is right, Christianity didn't even exist then. It's all thanks to the writings of Paul that we have Christianity today in its modern form.

I hate to break it to you, but none of the disciples were "true" Christians because it was not an established religion at the time. They were Jewish, for God's sakes. Judas didn't see Jesus as a money maker, and the only money he got in terms of Jesus he gave back. He thought that the crowds would be seen as a threat to the Roman occupants and military hell-fire would come from it, so he agreed to turn Christ in. He dies differently amongst the gospels too, or doesn't die at all.

Pharaoh was used by God to put Israelites in Egypt for more than 400 years. [about 430 years]
The fact is, our God is not 'the nice guy who saves everyone'. He is a God who has a plan and will use people for his purpose, including making them to unspeakable crime.
[You can read Romans for this]
Judas never confessed and repented his sin in Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. Therefore He is in hell.

  • @DMC553
    @DMC553 Před 13 lety

Well an ok performance... Nothing special. I'm dissapointed that the soloist didn't take ANY liberty to make the song his own version. He basically just mimicked Carl Anderson verbatim and didn't even put the effort required to match Mr. Anderson's iconic performance. The run at the end was the only contribution to this performance that came from a personal place. Good performance once again, but it just lacked the flair that would have made it Amazing!
