I knew that "talk" was coming when Nathan and Issa walked in. I was kind of mad when that happened because it seems like Andrew is ready to tell her about herself and I am so waiting for that moment. Andrew is laid back which is why it seems like he's trying to hint to Molly without just saying it, but at the same time, I think he understands that when you have good family or friends or a partner, you don't just let them walk away because of some silly disagreement that could probably be worked out with a simple talk and some time, you work it out. Molly hasn't reached that level of maturity or awareness yet. She knows Issa is a good friend, but she honestly thinks the friendship is one-sided, where Issa needs her, but Molly doesn't really need Issa. Like, how she's downplaying how much she misses Issa, and maybe she really doesn't because she has her man, so Issa can be damned right now, but you can tell Issa really misses Molly and it's so heartbreaking to watch.

I noticed a few more things after reflecting on this episode that I felt was really telling. One was with the takeout that Molly decided on without including Andrew. He looked very bothered that she decided to get Chinese when they agreed on Indian food, a complete disregard for his feelings and selfish on Molly's part. Another thing is with the "playful" banter and joking with Issa. You gotta watch out for people who like to make jokes at your expense. Molly enjoys laughing at Issa's short comings with the old raggedy apartment she used to have. I had a friend that would do that to me around other people to boost her self esteem. It may seem minor but it's very telling to me about the friendship.

So if you ever wanted to bring up the situation later it will be brushed off like "Girl! I was just joking". It was always done when I'm around a new group of people and they are starting to like me, laugh at my jokes or a guy was feeling me. It's very telling about Molly's self esteem.

Would it kill you to order something else from the menu other than the dish that disappointed last time or run it by him that you all should get something else entirely instead? I would’ve been mad 😡 And I had a family member like that as well, at first it bothered me (her making sly comments or back-handed compliments) but then I tried to give her a taste of her own medicine, and soon after I just cut her off entirely. My ex is a lot like Molly, which is why I think I have a strong bias against her this season, lol; she makes me think of being back in that place where I was constantly feeling dismissed and torn down. With someone who just does stuff without consulting you (Like Molly did with Andrew), who makes fun of you and whatever situations you are in, who expects you to forgive and forget when they do something, even if it's something extremely bad, but if you do something, no matter how small, they want a parade and apology before they will "give in". Like, I know how low my spirit and self esteem was after dealing with someone like that and I just feel bad for Issa because it hurts to walk away from someone you love when they just... aren't good for you and don't seem to care about you as much as you do them. They are just too draining. Unless something big happens in the last episode or next season, I see Molly and Andrew breaking up for sure.

Molly came into that diner prepared to give nothing until Issa gave her the apology she thought she deserved, period. That's why she didn't bring it up. While I feel like Issa should have said something since she called first, I totally understand feeling someone out to see how receptive they were, and if I felt what Molly was giving off, I may not have brought it up either.
Issa was heartbroken at the end, you could see it all over her face. What Molly said really hurt her, and I don't really understand what else Molly expected her to say. Did she want Issa to beg?

    • @lifewithshawnda

Thank you for the verse sis.
It’s clear: Issa loves Molly. Molly doesn’t love Issa.
They simply don’t see life, relationships, boundaries and grace vs grudges the same way at all.
Issa messes up but she freely admits her flaws and takes others feedback about being a user into account in shaping her behaviors. Issa also understands that others mess up too, but she’s willing to forgive, willing to give grace and the benefit of the doubt. Her boundaries may be too loose sometimes which Molly interprets as “messy”. Issa was deeply hurt by Molly’s tantrum at the block party but after taking some time she reached out to Molly; because she MISSED HER FRIEND. Relationship is important to Issa. I think quality time is Issa’s love language. It doesn’t matter to her that that Molly was wrong. Issa just needs for them to be in relationship to make things right. THAT’S love.
In contrast, Molly can only see things from her perspective, and is stubborn and defensive whenever anyone tries to tell her that she may not considering all the angles and is being self-righteous; she holds onto grudges and refuses to let things go because she expects others to atone before she will accept them back into her life. Her boundaries are too rigid which Issa interprets as Molly “not wanting to be happy”. Molly was deeply hurt by Issa asking Andrew for help via Nathan but instead of taking time to gain perspective she’s been getting increasingly bitter WAITING FOR AN APOLOGY. Being right is most important to Molly. I think words of affirmation are Molly’s love language. Molly just needs Issa to apologize and admit she was wrong. Unless Molly is proven right there can be no relationship. That’s NOT love.

Molly on the other hand, acts as if she doesn't even need or want to be around Issa. I’m not sure how long Molly has been in therapy, but if her therapist is giving her tools to handle situations better she needs to start using them. She is unbelievably selfish and self-centered. I wonder if we’ll have a Toni Childs & Joan Clayton friendship breakup where they spend some time apart, grow, & then reconnect later.
My prediction for the finale is that Molly & Andrew break up. It looks like Nathan will be confessing his feelings for Issa, so Issa will have to choose between Nathan & Lawrence & that will be our cliff hanger. Maybe next season they’ll explore Lawrence & Issa being in a LDR dealing with the Covid19 shutdown lol.

I agree I think Nathan will formally announce his feelings but I think they're already clear. Especially after how he reacted to the news about Issa and Lawrence reconciling. He sounded very jealous. I knew the Issa and Lawrence's reunion was happening too fast to be long lasting. I think they're letting us see that they did give it a try that way when they break up for good there's no doubt about whether or not Lawrence was a better fit for Issa. Nathan and Issa inspire each other. I like that.

Great review! I agree with Nathan. Lawrence is sometime-y. If he truly wants something again with Issa, why is he still pursuing a job in San Francisco when Issa’s career is just kicking off in LA. Also, when he finally came clean about Condola, it was very vague🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

Lawrence is happiest and at his best when he is professionally fulfilled and if he sacrifices that to be with Issa, they’ll likely end up right back where they were before. Plus he told Issa his plans from jump so they both are either being reckless in continuing or through their growing maturity will figure out what the next steps are.

Yes. Lawrence refused to DTR (define the relationship) when Issa asked. I like them together but that's a red flag coupled with his 2nd interview in San Fran. Issa is supposed to cut Nathan out as a friend for a man who can't say "you'er my girlfriend/woman/whatever?" Oh i don't think so. To be blunt- You don't get exclusive rights to something u aint purchased. How many times have women given a man boyfriend or husband privileges without him actual being in a committed relationship?
Nathan is still in play precisely because Lawrence is sometimy. He's trying to start "something" with Issa while knowing his job futures are in major flux....and knowing Issa is hitting her stride right where she is. Nah Nathan can stay right where he is cause his time is coming. And yes...Lawrence's explanation about Condolences is missing something...

She’s making the initiative to being more honest & Lawrence is giving me “sometime-y” vibes. Especially when he answers her questions with a question, “What do you want this to be?” Just he honest Lawrence! My mom always said when someone answers your question with a question, it’s a long no! (Example: You want to come with me to this part? Answer: Whose going to be there? How much is it? I feel sad for Molly, because I think she's unforgiving out of fear. I think when she closes herself off from people, it's because she felt triggered and something hit her in a tender spot. I just rewatched this episode and noticed with Molly that she always needs to win. When she is at brunch, she sits there looking at the menu waiting on Issa to speak first and apologize so she can win the fight. Talking with Andrew about getting together with his brother, she refuses to listen to what he's saying so she can win that discussion. When she tells Issa they've grown apart, she's completely thrown by Issa's "okay" response because she was expecting Issa to beg and grovel to save the friendship, again so Molly would win. Even during the session with her therapist, the doctor touches on the fact that in Molly's life, everyone else is in the wrong (Issa, Andrew, Coworkers, her father) . Life is one big competition to Molly where she has to be the winner, but sacrifices actual meaningful relationships in pursuit of that.

Y’all pushing Each other away ina sense... y’all don’t know Each other anymore. I feel like Molly needs to hit the rock bottom and be broken down & humble herself just as much as the next person. She uses Issa as something to compare herself to, she needs Issa to be a trainwreck so he can look better in comparison, as soon as Issa started putting things together in her life, the issues with Molly began. With Andrew she is taking his compassion to make her happy and expects him to be happy just by being with her. Almost that both Issa and Andrew should be soley grateful for Molly being in their lives. Shes a textbook narcissist and the only way she will change is if the world around her crumbles. I hate that Molly is serving that "I have the man now and my life is set" thing. It's hard to watch. Molly is going to be broken after this breakup. The sad part is she won't see it coming.

Molly is headed down a very lonely path. If she keeps pushing one day she’ll wake up and realize there’s no one left to push. Living life counting the strikes people make against you means your relationships will mostly consist of them making it up to you. And no one likes being in debt for too long. Especially since Molly can’t see how she plays a role in the turmoil a lot of her relationships experience. Issa is on a path of growth and I hope Molly doesn’t go with her.

Whew , this episode was a lot.
As a noncombative person myself, I understand her struggle talking with Molly. She can be very explosive and her tongue is vicious! However, she still reached out and that took courage because Molly was too proud to ever show herself ( that's why she acted like she didn't see Issa at the restaurant.) She did want to talk to Molly about her man issues, friends confide in each other but Issa took a different approach when they were in person to see about Molly first. Molly went in with her war face on. She was ready to talk but not ready to work. She probably already had her response and closing statement before Issa even spoke she just didn't get to use it. The conversation was so tense I wouldn't have said anything either...talk about getting blood from a turnip. They are both at fault but when you DESIRE to reconcile you have to show a level of grace and attempt to see their side. If she doesn't want to be Issa's friend, that's okay. However , that mistake text hurt me . You talk about being superficial, avoiding conversations and real issues. Yet you're smiling with me and telling me you love me blah blah....You could have told me at the diner you didn't want to be my friend. She has Andrew and that has given her a safety net to not need Issa for emotional support. Make sure you take that stick out of your eye and see the amazing person Andrew is and is trying to help you become. Old habits die hard and the pride comes before the fall.

Molly doesn''t know what to do to be in a real relationship with a man like Andrew although she wants it so much. She wants that type of relationship but she's too selfish, petty, self centered and angry to keep it. Issa was right when she told her she would be the one that causes him to walk away. I've never understood why Molly is so angry with Issa? I was hurt and taken aback when she said they had outgrown each other. Then Molly seemed to expect Issa to persuade her differently. I'm glad Issa walked away. I love your commentary. You're spot on. .

Molly's reaction to Issa's resignation was infuriating. The only reason why you would expect someone to push back against a statement like "we don't fit in each other's lives anymore," is because you wanna bait them into an argument or an apology. That's it. You should either wanna discuss the relationship or end it. There's nothing healthy about baiting someone into conflict.

This relationship has gone on for so long because Issa has been a doormat for Molly, the one who apologizes, who always calls and tries to make up. She probably has let things slide just like Andrew is doing. That just enables her, they need to stand up. What bothers me is that Molly is so pompous and haughty with her nose up, jus proud like Issa should bow to her. Who the heck does she think she is??? Pissed me off. Felt so bad for Issa at the end, when someone says that there's no response once can give.

Eh... Issa better not go back to best friend mode with Molly. We could be cordial but she'd never get the same level of trust.
Andrew is done. Molly pretty much showed him she doesn't fit in his life by not being able to take the olive branch from his brother. That's probably the deal breaker for Andrew. They probably would've broken up that night if Nate and Issa hadn't walked in. Andrew is D-O-N-E.
Lawrence...hmmmmmm... As cute as it was to see them together I think Issa needs to move on with Nathan.
Molly wanted Issa to beg. You pretty much said y'all don't belong in each other's lives anymore. What was Issa supposed to say?! Molly's pride will be her demise and it's like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

I can’t root for Nathan. Only because being with an individual with a mental disorder is DEEP. I would actually really appreciate this show if they showed that reality of having a loved one who is not “normal” (e.g. a child with a disability, a spouse with an addiction, a family member with a mental disorder like Nathan has.) not everyone has enough room to deal with that because you really do have to love/have patience at 200%. And I don’t know if Issa really has all that. Especially being bipolar, there is a chance he slips into recklessness like how he was at Cochella. Just doing whatever. Or getting super depressed. That’s a lot and idk if Issa is the one to hold that up when she couldn’t even deal with Lawrence and his complacency

Molly and Andrew break up (self-sabotage) Issa's comment at the block party was foreshadowing. Lawrence doesn't get the job and his reaction to the bad news is reminiscent of depressed Lawrence from season 1 - has he really changed? Nathan's comment about him being sometimey is also foreshadowing. Nathan tells Issa how he feels and this makes her wonder which way should she go? Was her relationship with Lawrence for a season? Does Nathan deserve a fair chance (cliffhanger). Tiffany is in distress postpartum depression. Chand and Leah are having twins!
Predictions for next season (Season 5): Molly buries herself in work and gets closer with Taurean. Dro resurfaces. We learn more about Kelly (maybe even get a dedicated episode). Issa is flourishing in the event space and has expanded her team. We might see Frieda at one of her events/ she runs into her. She's in a love triangle. Tiffany is dealing with postpartum depression and the cracks in her relationship with Derick resurface - why did he live in a hotel for six months and what happened with her coworker?🤔 Ahmal finds a new boo and he's nice to Kelly…for one episode. #InsecureHBO

But I dont know if it's a trial and error type situation for Lawrence to see if hes capable of trusting her again. I think he wants to. It sucks that him moving is gonna be something that they have to deal with, because they're both in good spaces and deserve this shot. If he asks her to go with him, I kinda hope she does..new place, new vibes, maybe new friends, and a new try for her and Lawrence. Issa is a great friend no matter what..and at this point I dont wanna see Issa as Molly's soft place to land after Andrew leaves her.. like Molly needs to own her wrongs wholeheartedly. Because the breakup will do nothing but overshadow their issues and they will be pushed under the rug while Issa tries to be the good friend that she is and help Molly thru losing Andrew. I felt Issa's pain after she realized that Molly was being super fake! I would have left too..dont force it honey! And when she went as far as to say maybe they dont fit anymore..I would have bowed before I got in that uber and told her it's been real ✊ live your best life, I'm out.

It was a constant battle of Andrew reminding Molly he wasn't going to take her ish, and that made her finally respect him as a person. I think Molly was attempting to cling on to him cause she felt he gave her a sense of stabiliy and calmness. However, if she is not willing to work on her own personal issues, like it seems he is encouraging her to do, she will be the reason the relationship does not work.

He will, however, call Molly out for not being willing to compromise regarding both his brother and Issa.
I think Issa and Molly will be officially done for a while. I think Molly’s break up with Asian Bae and Issa will force her into more therapy sessions. With time, I think Molly will be the one to reach back out to Issa next season.
Lawrence will get the job and I think they will try to make it work. Issa will continue to be friends with Nathan. Here is my take on this season and this episode. No one has annoyed me more than Molly this season. Molly is selfish, inconsiderate, proud, petty and just down right wicked. It all started off when she saw Issa picking up the pieces of her life and trying to move on and move up... From a homeless uber driver Issa got herself an apartment and a job. Then she started to think about what she really wanted to do hence the conversation she had with Nathan at cocella. She started thinking about having a block party so her other friend set her up with her friend condola who has connections and a network to help Issa make her vision into a reality. Now Molly seeing this new found friendship she doesn't like it and starts telling Issa that that relationship would be messy. That relationship was only going to be messy if the said parties wanted it to be messy! So I got the vibe that Molly didn't like condola and she wanted Issa to still be dependent on her. Now I think Molly is her biggest enemy she knows what her faults and flaws are but she doesn't want anyone to point them out or else she gets defensive and she knows Issa would tell her how she's sees it and this isn't the first time if we go back to previous seasons you'd see facts. Now fast forward before the block party your sister calls you up tell you she needed a favor that her headline artist to perform just pulled out and shed really need help it was last minute as a sister as a true sister you'd call your man up and as for a favor. I get that her relationship was new but it wasn't that new common now let's get real! Molly tells her she ain't gonna do it .... Again selfish and wicked. Now you go to the block party and even Andrew was proud of Issa and pointed it out to Molly like look what your friend has accomplished look it takes a lot out of a person to create this and still Molly was in her damn feelings like damn Molly be proud no one thought she could do it and she proved all her friends wrong. But the minute she finds out that Andrew did Issa a favor she goes off on her about going behind her back Molly get real no body went behind your back the only reason your in a relationship now with Andrew is because of Issa knowing Nathan and Andrew being Nathan's friend so if keep your new rules and grief to yourself. To be honest I was low key happy that their friendship ended but I was like if they can salvage it then fine but I wasn't going to hold my breath she ruined Issa's block party that was going so good and could have ended on a high note. I didn't want Issa to call first because she was always bended to please Molly and Molly has never once initiate a conversation or an apology. I thought it was really big of Issa to call even if she knew how the conversation would have played out she still stock to her guns and called her (even though I did not agree) . I am so happy for Issa and Lawrence airing things out and being able to move forward I don't mind them being apart or together because they both needed to grow individually and they did. Andrew should leave Molly for awhile, she's not trying with her family , boyfriend or friends people at her job don't even like her what should that tell you about your personality lets she what she does when no one is in her corner let her have a taste of her own medicine. I also want Lawrence to have that job in Seattle and maybe have Issa move there too that would be amazing. Molly needs a reality check and she's about to get it
