    • @MrYaco123
      @MrYaco123 Před 4 lety +38

      1.- Marc Martel it's one of the reasons the movie is shit to me. His voice takes me out of the mood, it sounds terrible.
      2.- It wouldn't have been so difficult.
      Firstly, he's not in any important scene.
      Secondly, Brian May has access to Freddie's vocal tracks of probably every song. They could have use any of those instead of Mark Martel. And they could have twitched them a little bit to add anything they wanted, like voice cracks. (Like they did with Keep Yourself Alive at the beginning of the movie)

Rami sang into a dead microphone, just so the audience could see his neck muscles moving and know he wasn't just mouthing the words. @kaydenbush Před 4 lety +34

      Also in very early screenings, and some foreign showings, they used Martel's vocals because they didn't have the remastered version of the Live Aid show done. That's why there's a weird cut/pause at the " life---ha- jus- begun," they had to make some adjustments so the lip syncing was correct.

    The part where Freddie is at the piano playing and singing "Bohemian Rhapsody" and his voice cracks, that really is Freddie's voice. It was taken from an old recording while they were in the process of producing the song "Bohemian Rhapsody". It was kind of like one of the audio outtakes the band had stored away. Even the world's greatest vocalists sometimes have voice malfunctions every now and then.

      An article from Sound on Sound supports your comment. This is an excerpt from the interview with the mix engineers.
      "In the end, the decision was made to work with the live recordings and improve them as much as possible. The only singing by the vocal double that was used are bits for which no recordings of Freddie exist, for example where he sings 'Happy Birthday' to himself at the piano. We are all very picky about technical quality, but you have to balance that against the emotional impact. You want the energy of the original performance. No-one will be sitting in the cinema thinking, 'Oh, my goodness, there's a tiny bit of distortion on the lead vocal.' You just go: 'This is exciting!' In fact, that little bit of distortion adds to the excitement. And also, that concert is so well-known, if you change anything in it, you're going to be nailed to the wall!"

    The one where he chokes on BoRhap is Mercury’s voice from a studio take. That day his voice was cracking a lot and there are other parts of the song he misses the notes as well. Since there are over 70 hours of voice recordings from the studio sessions, I’m sure it wasn’t the only time that happened either.
    The live BoRhap is from Earl’s Court in 77. I really loved the way he sang “...and leave me to die”, so I did quite a bit of digging to find where that came from. They did a restoration on the audio so his voice was clearer.

    I think the point is that Marc Martel's singing, vocal impression of Freddie Mercury is perhaps 90% or better of being close to Freddie's voice. That's probably ten times better than anyone else could do, and for the movie it was exactly what they needed to fill all the vocal / singing gaps. Marc spent a few months in the Abby Road studio, and while there are several instances (as shown in this video) where it was obvious that they had to use Marc's vocals to recreate a vocal scene, there are other parts of movie, including Live Aid, that they had to mix Marc's vocals in to fill gaps, sound level drops, etc.

    1) Rami didn't sing AT ALL. He sang into a dead microphone, purely so the camera would pick up his throat muscles move, so it didn't look like he was just mouthing the lyrics. This was revealed by his movement coach for the movie, and later confirmed by one of the sound engineers. The only reason it was ever claimed he sang in the movie was to help him get the Academy Award. I've actually heard Rami's singing voice. He truly "can't sing a lick," as they say in the American south.
    2) Marc Martel's voice was in most, if not ALL, of the songs. The 30 year old, analog tape masters would not have been of acceptable quality for Dolby Atmos Digital Sound, so Marc's voice was blended with Freddie's, in what's called "vocal layering." You can see the tracks in this photo from the Live Aid scene mixing board, where Freddie's track is "LV-STEM LVAID DRY FREDDIE_01" and Marc's track is "LV-STEM LVAID_01," directly beneath it. i.imgur.com/Oqxw81z.jpg . That also explains why Marc had to spend MONTHS, recording at Abbey Road studios, for the movie. As an aside, almost all the promotional videos for Marc's tours include the announcers saying Marc was "the voice of Freddie Mercury" in the movie. Note that neither Queen nor 20th Century Fox has issued "cease and desist orders" to ANY of those advertising agencies, for making that claim. If they did, they would have to prove the statement is false, something they can't do. When asked about it, during interviews, Marc just smirks and says, "I can neither confirm nor deny..." which refers to his NDA.
