Are ToneMatched IRs for the Helix a Scam?

  • Are ToneMatched IRs for the Helix a scam or something revolutionary, I don't really think either of those are accurate but I do think that it's a great way to create. So much of what we chase in the digital world are minute analog details and Tone Matching enables us to capture some of those little details and nuances that make one amp different from another and what really makes the Tone chasing journey so fun!
All the tones from this video are right out of the 65 collection for Helix. Check it out: tonejunkiestor...

    The new preset
For helix and ir is probably your best work yet. Also all the different snapshots in the patch. Gold!! Sounds great buddy! I own a bunch of TJ stuff. I think this is a home run! Thank you !

I dont care what people said, ive tried your tonematched IR and it sounds huge, fat, big bottom end, sparkly, pristine, and driven my ear into a good vibes. Thank you for that.
And that tonematched IR keeping my HX stomp into a good to go rig ready pedal, because im a poor man as that 😂 thank you HW

I think they are great and something I NEED. I have bought a lot of your Marshall tonematched presets just to fool myself in thinking I now own a Superlead, Superbass, JTM45, PA, JTM45100 😂 I know they are not the real thing, but I’m not hurting anyone, am I? I have been using the Superbass tonematched preset for my gigging needs and get nothing but compliments about my sound! The soundguys love it too.
I even went so far as to upload the Superbass IR to my NuX MG30 (hopefully not breaking any laws?) and use it with the Plexi 50 amp model and WOW! Even that little box now sounds huge! So, thank you HW for doing all the work you do on these tonematched IRs.

I love that you are doing a lot of different videos. While I really only use my Kemper, I love learning about different things. It kinda reminds me of the TJ videos back in the day, like the Snouse Black Box vid, except now they are based on the digital world which is the world we live in now. Keep up the great work❤

Hey HW nice demo. I’d love to see the process - why not make a video of the whole thing? I’m really interested for it’s own sake, but it would also likely sway others if the see for themselves

I have only ever played using modelers, so I don't know what the real thing is supposed to sound and feel like. These IRs are incredible for giving me and idea, an approximation of the real thing. I often take an IR and then try to replicate it with stock cabs. But I look at IRs as a bar I'm shooting for. Without them I wouldn't quite know what I'm aiming at 😂

    • @StratsRUs
      @StratsRUs Před rokem

On any amp. Play with Sag settings, Bias too.Really see how these respond in various ways with each other, Drive and with Master, making up the overall volume with Channel Vol.Then the Cab Settings and mics etc.
IRs are great too but there's only one way of finding out and that's by doing it all from basics. It gets more on the fly the more you do !.
Cabs are as great as IRs.
And we can get both, or even use both together. It's a song by song thing.
I like these tone-matched IRs simply as an option.Listen to the big artists' tones though.Use your ears.

HW thanks for another great video and sweet guitar playing! one question... I am interested in the Tone Matched IR's and your presets in general. I also have a Kemper Stage but since I cannot learn to love the UI, Rig Manager, lack of scribble strips, etc. I am going back to Helix after my next gig (yes- I did watch your video why Kemper is still king BTW.. :-)) SO my question- I do not see exactly WHICH packs are included in your "Everything Pack" so how do I find out? Thx

  • @otfan522botjournalismisdea2

I don’t consider them a scam. Before tone matched IRs I did not consider Helix a contender to replace my amp with a mic for live playing.
When i first heard tone Matched IRs i had to reconsider. Now I have a Stomp and many tone matched IRs. It is really good (but Tone x may have me looking for other options soon.)
Now the 3.5 update was a vast improvement in my book and I think 3.5 makes it much easier to get good enough sounds but I still prefer TM most of the time.
