    Downloaded your IR pack after watching your presentation, as should "every Helix user out there" the best feel I have ever had from my Helix LT. Should be able to meet any mix situation with these IR's as nothing sees to be missing from the cab sounds. You oughta be congtratulated on a brilliant product. Well done!!!

      @@TONEWARSgearshow Typically I shy away from "cat lover IRs" as they are a little crazy and fizzy on the top end. I always try to use IRs created by people with Dogs. Fuller, thicker tone in my opinion. That being said, Yours are good. High and low cuts of end user choice and you are good to go.

    The one missing element with a great or not so great impulse response once it's being used by someone else or in a different capacity is in fact the most important piece. The cabinet from which the IR was loaded from and then the one it is being amplified through, oh yeah and then the guitar and pickups and more :) First thing I do with an IR is tweak or as you said multiple times sculpt the EQ of the IR against with what I'm working with. Thats what a sound guy has to do and I like it.

    • @TONEWARSgearshow
      @TONEWARSgearshow  Před rokem +2

      Great points. That's why I'm doing raw impulse responses. That way whoever uses them can tweak them for whatever they want.

    The best IR's I've tried out of thousands of digging around and must've spent entire days searching, but the best ones are by Ryan Harvey. It's in the catharsis pack for free and also embedded in the TSE X50 amp sim. Buster from humanity's last breath uses those and his albums are super crisp, massive and modern sounding.

    Damn man, I’ve been making impulse responses of my own cab for years for the same reason. Did it with the axefx and then for the Helix. I’m use to the way my cab sounds recorded and live so I just made an IR of my cab. Did the same thing for some friends cabs also. I always told them if they have a favorite cab they record with or use live to just make an IR of it. Last week made one using my buddies marshall head as the power amp to bake in the EL34 section and he just uses the preamp in the Helix. Anyone can make them in like 5 mins. Glad you figured out the magic.

      Thanks for commenting. Yeah, I'm doing my own impulse responses from now on. I'll be making more packs of different speakers for everyone very soon. I just can't believe how far off a lot of the impulse responses that I was playing were.
      I love the baked in tube amp feature as well. I'll be using solid state amps and tube amps to do mine in the future. Having that warmth and fullness baked in is always nice.
      I actually used my Blu Amp Iridium power section for this pack. I love how they came out.

      @@TONEWARSgearshow I love to tinker so when I would try and get helix or axefx2 to match up with my heads mic’d I just always made an IR of my cabs because years ago I didn’t have a load box for the heads. The axefx had the IR maker in it before I had a helix and I ran that through my same Mesa cab and a matrix poweramp. So then I’d just make and IR so I always knew the sound I got direct was my exact sound I had miking my cab. It just always seemed to make sense to me for consistency. You have your favorite cab tone there that is baked into your brain just like I do.

    I use a Boss GT1000 and I have a Dunlop 10 band EQ hooked up to the mono output jack. Then I run the output from the EQ into a crown power amp that is hooked up to my Marshall 4 12 cab. The EQ allows me to adjust the tone to sound like a real tube head. I could not get the tone I wanted from only using the internal EQ in the GT 1000. Adding the external EQ to the output gave me the flexibility to shape the tone exactly to my liking. I now have the exact same tone as an ENGLE FIREBALL 100 head without having to shell out $2000 to get it! And-no worries about tube failures anymore!

    Ever since the latest helix update.... I stopped using all IR's. Way easier to tweak the tone I am after especially the dual cab capabilities. You can save them as favorites and treat them as your own custom IR's. The issue I have with other IR's is that they are tuned for a guitar with different pickups, different pickup heights... different playing styles etc...
    Same reason I don't buy anyone's presets.....complete waste of time and money.

    I started diving in plug ins and Its recently just for some practicing on tamed volumes. NOTHING compares to playing in front of the amp. The plug ins and IRs tones are great and dead cheap comparing to the real thing, but the real thing is the REAL THING. Can you tell in a mix? Can you tell on a blind test? WHO GIVES A SHIT. You can tell when you are plugged in and play for sure. Amps move air, and that cannot be captured, that thumbing feeling you get when you play in front of an amp and a cab is something special.

    I've been watching you're Helix comments for a while now. I remember from a prior video where you mentioned the problems with the Headrush type power cabinets rather than your wooden enclosure. Does your IR pack communicate the same with an FRFR Headrush type set up? Or did you play through your IR's through your original power cab, which I think was a Friedman? I appreciate your video, and your work here. Would love to know what your opinion of your IRs are through the FRFR cab. That "Deezel Legit" is what I'm looking for! Hi there,
    I've downloaded your new invective preset to try the IRs. I was a huge fan of the ML soundlab Marshall IRs before and I never felt they were designed mix-ready, rather than realistic representations of the real cabs. They definetly sounded better than the old helix cab blocks to me.
    After a couple of hours comparing your IRs and my previous favourites, I have to say that yours feel and sound so much better. Congrats and thanks for making my helix feel like a new product.
    I wonder why other companies choose to create their IRs too mid focused and “compressed”? Is it really easier to mix them in a DAW? Is it more convenient for a sound engineer to work with them live? I have so many questions 😂

    There's a difference listening to a solo guitar verses hearing it in a mix. When I'm listening to guitar alone I have more lows in the sound, but once you mix in a bass and drums it will sound flubby. So I'm guessing that "honky, hollow, thin" tones preset are to fit in a full mix. Your only samples were solo guitar riffs. Should have tried it with backing tracks 🙄

    dude I HATE the lo/hi cut filtering technique....why would you delete 10-15% of your guitar tone so the kick and bass can sit better? This is a 1970s technique, it's 2023 and we have millions of plugins and tools now and 5.1 surround etc.... We need to rethink this deleting of the tone with the hi/lo cut filtering, it's DUMB

    • @karolkozak64
      @karolkozak64 Před rokem +1

      the hi and lo cuts are there to make sure that you dont clash with your bass, kick, cymbals etc. But i agree - 99% of the cases you'd let the FOH tech do his job and take care of things without you intervening. i actually prefer some level of hi/lo cuts because modelers carry over a ton of unnatural digital fizz usually above 8khz (depending on the IR). So in order to make them less digital i at least do a 80/8000 cut on my fractal. That helps a ton!
