    Unlike other pen reviewers, you aren't afraid to criticise pens which aren't up to scratch. I think there is far too much deference given to some pen companies. Your reviews are always frank.
    P.S. I like the way you seem to discard the 'rules' about adapting the speed and size of Scrpt to the nib - you seem to use the same style no matter what nib grade you use.

    • @BlakesBroadcast

      Thanks Darryl! I appreciate it. My goal at the end of the day is to be useful to the pen community and not let my relationships with pen brands influence my reviews. For example, I love Aurora and carry their products at The Paper Mind but I don't carry the Duo Cart because the cap's design flaw which I outlined in my review on this channel.
      For a writing sample I like to run nibs through the same tests and a good nib should be able to handle fast writing within reason.

    I discovered Scribo exactly a year ago. I admit the nib was the main draw for me. I bought the Feel (light grey-blue) and then another one (Ombré Verdi) soon afterward. Owning and using my two Scribo Feel pens with the 14k Fine flex nib and the 18k stub nib has been a revelation to me. On the writing experience alone, I’d say the Scribo pens are really the true reincarnation of the soul of OMAS. I agree the nibs don’t look stellar (as OMAS nibs did). But gosh, I love the way both my Scribo Feel pens write. The piston is extremely smooth and the pen feels very comfortable in the hand. I don’t mind the design aesthetics. Hour-glass, statuesque silhouette and quite original. I like the faceted barrel. The faceted section surprised me. I didn’t expect it. And it doesn’t bother me. I’m also a fairly high gripper of sections. I never post pens, so that’s never a concern to me.
    The price is definitely pretty steep. But on balance, it’s very worth it to me. That said, I reckon that, in comparison, a resin or ebonite Santini pen with the 14k/18k gold nibs (whole pen and nib made in-house) for just over $400 is seemingly a superior value-on-price purchase. I have the Santini Libra Cumberland ebonite pen. And I just ordered a Nonagon faceted model, too.
    Great review, Blake, of a pen that I’m very fond of. Scribo need to put out newer designs this year, hopefully. I intend to buy more.

      Thanks for the comment Sajjad! I agree with you about the nibs. I will definitely be adding a Scribo to my collection. I am going to wait for a deal unless they come out with a new pen that I really love the look of. I no longer have a Santini but I do want to get one of their ebonite models in the future. How do you like the Santini nibs compared to Scribo?

    • @sajjadhusain4146
      @sajjadhusain4146 Před 5 měsíci +2

      @@BlakesBroadcast Hi again, Blake. Truth be told, I’ve decided that the only pens I’m buying this year are more of Scribo, Santini and possibly old OMAS, too. Nothing else at all.
      Now, your question about my nib preference is a real toughie. I liken the 18k cursive italic nib on my Santini Libra to being a cousin of Aurora gold nibs. In terms of a very distinct, consistent but very lovely and addictive feedback. It is still very smooth, with great flow and just a delight to use. I have also tried Santini’s Fine and stub nibs. Both are swell. There’s not a thing I don’t like about Santini.
      My two Scribos really do write much like the two OMAS (circa early ‘90s) pens I own. Truly sublime writers. Nothing compares, really. So, if pressed to choose one nib over the other, I just can’t. They are differently awesome.
      Oh well, the Scribo nib wins by a sliver. 🙂
      I’d add, though, that as of now, if one was forced to choose only one pen to buy, I’d recommend the Santini on the basis of sheer variety of models/colors/materials/finish offered, and most certainly on price. Overall, among Italian pens, Santini gives you the most in return for your money.

      @@sajjadhusain4146 Thanks for the detailed reply! I agree Santini is a great value. Let me know what OMAS pens you end up getting. I am thinking of adding a 90s celluloid Paragon this year.

      @@BlakesBroadcast I’m seriously aiming to buy an old Ogiva and certainly a celluloid Paragon myself. Must constantly look out for something I really like at the right price, hopefully. Like I said, I’m not spending a single dollar on buying a pen this year save Scribo, Santini and OMAS (not necessarily in that order 🙂).

    I don’t know why I‘ve never seen one of your videos, stupid algorithm! In terms of ugliness, I totally agree. And corroding hardware, I don’t have that even with a 3€ Jinhao 82, that’s just a big no. Am I willing to pay 800€ just for the nib, I honestly don’t know. I mean, I paid less than half of that for my Santini Libra and it’s pretty perfect imho. Thank you for your honest review, the information you provided was excellent. I'm so with you on the ugly nib - they could have etched something a little more artistic like what Leonardo did with its fenice nib, or at least given it a two-tone finish like Pilot's #30 nibs, though Omas type nibs are heavenly writers in my opinion. I like the faceting and larger size with the narrower center band "girdling" the cap and barrel giving it a feminine bombe shape. it gives the "feel" of movement to the pen - it's a novel alternative to the boring cylinder or cigar/torpedo shapes.

      We have the same taste! Spiaggia Rosa is the one I would buy if I were to buy a new one. I was able to get a used Piuma in black for $250 recently. It has a flex nib but somehow it isn't as flexy as the Feel I reviewed.

  • @amydebuitleir
    @amydebuitleir Před 5 měsíci +1

    I have a Scribo Flex, and fortunately I haven't seen any pitting or corrosion. It's in a 3-way tie for my favourite pen, along with my vintage Omas 556/F and a Pilot Custom Heritage with an FA nib. I think the nib is great. I wish they made a smaller model; it feels a bit awkward in my small hands. I thought the step would annoy me, but it doesn't. For someone who wants a very similar nib but at a much lower cost, check out Santini Italia models with the Superflex nib. I have one of those as well and love it.

    I'm glad someone finally just came out and said it. Nib wise this would be like a grail pen for me or whatever, but the design is just awful. Bulbous, cartoonish, corny ("feel the writing" really? Maybe if English is a second language it comes across with more cache or something) are not adjectives that should come to mind when looking at $700 pen. Boring would have been infinitely better.

  • @jorge23483

    If Srcibo assemble the pens then yes, I think it probably may be a defective first parts batch, something understandable but certainly should be covered by guarantee. As for the pen in general, yeah, I find it ugly, don't mind too much the fonds clashing on the nib, but the general shape of the nib is just appealing to me. I think Srcibo tried to hard to look new and stylish and different for other companies and in the process ended up losing the point in design.
    Thank you for the video review.

    • @BlakesBroadcast
      @BlakesBroadcast  Před 5 měsíci +3

      Thank you for the comment! I don't see other Scribos with that trim issue so I think it likely just a bad batch. It is easy to identify a Scribo Feel when you see one which is a benefit in a sea of very similar looking Italian pens so I guess that is one positive thing about the design.

    Looks are a matter of taste, of course. I agree with you that it’s an unattractive pen, chunky, inelegant, but I’m accustomed to people rhapsodizing over pens (and shoes and watches and cars and jewelry) that make me wonder whether we’re looking at the same thing. At a dinner years and years ago, a Swede complemented my general sense of style preparatory to saying, “that’s why I don’t understand why you’re wearing that hideous, garish chunk of gold on your finger.” Had he not been working for the Swedish finance ministry and I working for the U.S. Treasury Department, I’d have smacked him across the face with it, but there was no sense causing an international incident over a difference in taste. I still like that ring.
    But given all that, what I hear you saying is that the pen is expensive but, on the basis of the ugly but otherwise wonderful nib, probably worth it if you don’t mind the looks of it. So on the strength of your review, I think I should keep an eye on Scribo in the event that their designers and I experience a sudden confluence of design sensibilities. Scribo has until now not been on my radar, so I guess this review is a win for them.
    I like your ring, by the way. I’ve noticed it the last few episodes.

      Thanks James! Wow that's a bit more than the typical Swedish directness. I agree that looks are a matter of taste. I am keeping an eye out for a second hand Scribo Feel for a good price and of course if Scribo starts making a good looking pen I will happily buy a brand new one.
      I have never been one for jewelry (other than watches of course) but I am definitely enjoying this ring from Chrome Hearts.

    What's needed here is a giant caveat surrounding the nature of subjective opinion. The Scribo writes well, by your own admission. It's comfortable and is also an objectively large pen and well-made, by your own admission - and you reference its size to the large Montblanc 149, that is, also by your admission, not as pleasant to write with than the Scribo that is half the price, yet admonish it for being expensive. That it does not post... again, not objectively bad, but maybe you're the kind of guy that posts giant pens for long writing sessions, or you just enjoy and appreciate less-flashy, boring/classic designs. Who knows. What this review describes is a well-made, well-performing fountain pen that punches far above its price tag.

    • @BlakesBroadcast
      @BlakesBroadcast  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Everything on this channel is my opinion. I talk about things I like and don't like. We all have different preferences.
      The Scribo is a great writing pen and it is expensive. If you see my Montblanc 149 review, I also say it's expensive and I also mention how scratchy it's calligraphy flex nib is.
      I am reviewing this pen from the angle of Scribo being an OMAS successor. The Scribo does not post (this is something I do with my OMAS pens and I considered it comfort and convenience feature) the Scribo uses similar nibs to the late OMAS pens but they are less attractive in every way while costing just as much.

    I appreciate your efferts to document the origin of the products your review. So forgive me if I have to correct you: "scribo" measn " I write" in LATIN not in "dialetto bolognese". Past participle "scriptum" from which in English "script".

    • @BlakesBroadcast
      @BlakesBroadcast  Před 5 měsíci

      I didn't know that. The company is called Scrittura Bolognese and I read that their name "Scribo" comes from a combination of these two words.

    • @blackimp4987
      @blackimp4987 Před 4 měsíci

      @Broadcast you are right but that combination was intentionally made as there exists the latin verb too: it was thought for having a double meaning. just a curiosity.
      About the pen, I like that nib but I'm not that enthusiast of the body design too as you mentioned, with that swelling and the step for aligning cap wit body, and the insane price compared to Aurora's pens; especially Talentum, or Leonardo Momento Magico or many other Italian pens. The poligonal section is even less appealing to me thou there exists a round model that is called La Dotta - "the erudite", female gender as "penna" = " pen" - I could consider to buy at a lower price they sell it.
      I think they are trying to justify too high prices with peculiarities in design and with specious "limited" numbers of each color that cost them very little.
      I wish them all the bests as Italian and as almost half bolognese but I'm not much tempted to buy one at the moment.
      Thank you for your clear demonstration of how that nib works.
